Hi Adam wow thank you so much on behalf of the crew of Border Reiver 💕💕💕. You were so kind. Hope you enjoyed our little vlog. We’ll send Claire your comments, her and Scott are now back in Germany. 😀😀
Hello to Scot and Claire , what a nice family get together. Scott did a great handbrake..... l mean three point turn , that's a pass in my books 👍.... yeah just needs to brush up on his left and right 😂😂.... Great video guys 👍
Thank you. It was great to see Swarkestone lock: a place I first new in the early 1960s. There used to be a white painted house by the lock at which jugs of tea could be purchased. One shilling (£0.05p) per jug!.
Glad you enjoyed it. Yes we take a lot of care in selecting the music for each vlog. We so have our favourites, hope you do too. We always put the music detail in the video description, so if you ever need them. J&M x
I know I couldn't steer the narrowboat because I can't judge distance to park my Fiesta! . I constantly have to get back in and pllforward another five feet. IT would be a disaster if I tried to do what you are so good at! So glad to see your happy family!
Wow first of all well done Scott with your stearing of the Princess as for Clare stop giggles I'm fluent German 1 Heinz beans fry chips 3 dry the pots lol😂tin tin I didn't know you had ed sheenan on board 😊 sorry captain 1day you will get your colour back and your dad makes a beautiful chicken tikka for your Mam normally as he gets brownie points 😊as for you jaq thanks for the pics of the food in the navy wow death by chocolate I bet that was Michaels lol God bless you all nice journey to Berlin Scott and Clare no crying at the airport I hope you Will come again 🤔 just wondering if you have a sister Scott! Anyway all the best John 😊
Hi John, wow we'll pass your congrats onto Scott when we speak to him next and to giggly Claire also. Loving all he references to 'hair'... Scott certainly has a great mop of it!! Sorry to disappoint but the death by chocolate was all mine.... don't think Michael even got a look in!! Scott sadly doesn't have a sister ha ha. Great comments, keep them coming x
Wow what a great family video, thank you for sharing. It just shows how hard it is to learn to stear, and to operate the locks. Well done Clare and Scott for mastering the challenges, Two great teachers Michael and Jackie who make it look so natural. Cheers I don't think I would have made it over the lock after a beer....😢
Hi Judith, yes he does but don't tell him I said that ha ha. So pleased you enjoyed the video, a little different with family on board, great fun and lots of banter between us all. x
Great little video guys, I'm new to thinking of getting a narrow boat, I've got a long time to think about it and also gain a lot of advice and tips, trying to keep up with as many continuous cruisers as I can find, I think it's great how everyone seems more friendly than a motorist driving through town and always willing to give each other a helping hand, take care guys, Nige, 👍👍
@@cruisingontheborder looking the rear cruiser stern as a single boater ,bedroom at the bow ,kitchen at the stern, Lounge and washroom central, 50-60 foot long, what do you think? I'm trying to get advice from people with experience, loving your vlogs 👍👍👍 Lou
Hi Ady, so pleased you are enjoying our waterways adventures. Not sure about the grandparents comment, it made us laugh but also we suddenly felt very very old and really we're still only in our 40's......
That’s called cooperating weather. Not an assured thing over there. So yeah… a perfect day … no sweltering heat and no hostile winds. Perfect. Thanks for making us part of your get together. 👍🇨🇦😉
Yes it was and thank you for your kind comment. Yes Michael takes care in choosing the correct music to suit the mood of each part of the video. Lovely to hear from you. x
Wow Scott well done. My Daughter first time on the tiller Zig Zagged for 2 miles on a straight stretch of the Birmingham Worcester canal and managed to hit he bank 5 times Left and Right Syndrome ha ha ha
Sometimes, after turning left, say, you have to steer to the right to stop the turn continuing after you get pointed in your target direction. (Steer a bit the opposite way, to cancel out the previous turn.) Takes a bit of practice, for me anyway, when on hire boats!
We had a trip from sawley to alrewas and back at the end of july. Weston lock was terrible. The guy who lives on the lock landing told us you can't shut a paddle early or you can't open it and the gates can take 2 to open. Great fun when there's just 2 of you and no help. Your apprentices were doing well tho
So pleased you enjoyed.... not sure about the answer to your question. I'll let the Captain give it some thought if that's ok. Great to hear from you, hope all is well?
Glad you enjoyed it. That's interesting to know, we did wonder if we were doing the right thing but no-one said anything. Maybe the Nicholson's Guide needs a little update??? Thanks for taking the time to comment, we really appreciate it.
Hi Love your adventures look forward to your travels every week. Watching from Australia originally from St.Albans in the UK, miss that country side so much. Could I ask who the songs are by that you often play so nice and relaxing. Carry on the good work, look forward to you next video. Michael Pipe
Awesome! Thank you! Wow great to know you watch us all the way from Australia. We detail the music selection for each video in the video description, so you can see them. We use Epidemic Sounds for them all. Thanks for joining us on our adventures.
Thanks for that Dixie! Making me feel older than I already am!! Some days pal, I feel 90! It’s hard bending down all the time to get in and out of the boat. Not sure I’d be able to hang over the side of Gurkha on a bosuns chair with a pot of paint nowadays! 🤣🤣
You do well for your age and look good doing it mate. It's hard graft that Narrow boat malarkey. My mate has one called Morning Mist, currently up at Radcot but heading towards Banbury. Another ex matelot btw😊
What a brilliant day on the cut with family. We were so fortunate to have family and occasionally friends from Canada join us when we were boating. You were well wise to do the route you did rather than the Erewash. Much nicer. Looking forward to next weeks adventure!
Absolutely John thanks so much for the comment, and good to know about the Erewash canal. We might get to do it next time we are in the area. Sounds like you had a lovely time with your family too. Until next week x
Hello Jackie and Michael mick from Hull really enjoyed this episode and it was very nice to see you too with company and I will look forward to your next episode xx 😊😊
Absolutely love these videos of the wonderful countryside and waterways. Picked up watching about episode 43, and have gone back to view starting about #29. I listen to the directions of Jackie, the geography teacher, and try to locate your route and find the locks on Google Map.
Ha ha David, it's great to have you on board with us. Sounds like you are enjoying our waterways adventures. I hope my odd geography lessons are enough for you to locate us??? Jac x
I know you are limited on the canals you can travel with a wide beam but, was curious just how restricted... can you travel on most of the canal system or are you limited to half or less... or.... ? Thanks! Wonderful family btw.
Hi Roger thanks so much for your comment. Probably a lot less than half of the canals are suitable for wide beams, it's the lock sizes that are the issue. The whole River Thames I think is ok and that is one beautiful cruise. Hope your'e enjoying our waterways adventures.
Hi Paul, great thought, he'd be so good at those, so calm and reassuring, providing he gets his left and right correct ha ha. Great comment thank you .
Ha ha thanks for the comment, we keep swapping over sometimes we don't show it on the video. Michael and Scott did lots of manual work leaving the girls time to chill onboard. Hope you enjoyed it?
The father/son interactions are touching. Sorry, boys! It had to be said!
Myself and my colleague were the lads helping you , your welcome glad we could help.

@nigelgregory7308 that layout is our preference definitely. Our previous boat at bedroom at stern and not as good 🧐

In my time there I think it was called Hoskin’s wharfe spent many pleasant evenings in the restaurant and bar.
