I agree with you. The b&w buildings shot that you identify as your favorite is absolutely wonderful. So is the video build and your inclusion of your "Oppenheimer" inspired art piece. Helpful for it's assessment of the Leica and beautiful as an art piece in its own right. Thanks for the great work!
Thank you so much! I really appreciate the comment and the watch. This was actually a very emotional piece for me to create. I'm getting the buildings printed in a large format to hang on my wall. Literally love that shot!
Welcome to the club...! I shoot my M film cameras nearly daily, and the M4 being my favorite "go to"... Keep shooting, and looking forward to future vids from you as you document your world on that camera...
Thank you! I am glad to join the club! I'm in the same boat, shooting with this nearly daily. I'll keep shooting and create content that hopefully everyone will enjoy! Thank you for watching!
That was OUTSTANDING, I shoot with an M6 which I purchased brand new in Jan 2023 and it is just amazing. Your choice of best pic was also mine, BEAUTIFUL capture. Thank you for this, very inspiring. What is that silver cup thingy you put the roll in? I shoot LF and develop myself, I don’t have a 35mm developing system as of yet but would love to set one up. Thanks in advance, you should do a video on your 35mm development set up, 👍🏼👍🏼
Thank you so much for the kind words! I really appreciate it. What film stocks are you using in your M6? The silver cup thingy is the Kalt stainless steel 35mm tank. I have the one that holds 2 rolls of 35mm or 1 roll of 120. I have never developed LF myself and it's been a loooong time since I've shot 4x5. I can definitely put together a video around my 35mm developing set up! Thank you for the recommendation!
I grabbed up a chrome M4 this year too. Mine is a bit more beat up but after shooting an M8 and an M240 I thought I should try the real mechanical deal. It's an inspiring machine!
I totally agree. It is a very inspiring machine. I literally have to take it with me everywhere because I want to shoot with it. Where'd you get your M4? And what's the shooting experience like on the M8 and M240?
@@michaelmarshallphotography5515 I got the M4 off the Facebook Leica group for a nice deal. A little risky since no one knew if it had ever had a CLA and it does have a dent on the top plate but it was inexpensive enough to factor that in. Nevertheless I got lucky as it exposures are great and I tested the RF and focus is dead on. Film M's are a stable investment and using ones is a timeless experience. The practicalities of digital married to an M are worth it for a lot of shooters. But it's different. The M8 isnt worth $1500+ that people are asking for them but it is a wonderful object in it's own right and I would still love to have one as a walk around camera. I don't buy into the CCD hype but it is probably the sharpest sensor I have ever shot a manual lens on. The shutter sound is disturbing though. The M240 has a couple of faults, both I can live with (heavy/bulky, bad screen even by 2014 standards) but I love the output and handling. All the other improvements, LED lit frame lines, 24mp CMOS, make it a much finer camera. IMHO it's worth the used asking price of 2k-2500. I sold mine after a year of ownership and didn't lose a cent. Both cameras have unsophisticated TTL metering so don't expect to just shoot aperture priority without a care. It still requires thoughtful exposure like a film M and the highlights will blow out unlike a Nikon or Sony.
Thank you for the info. I have been very curious about looking into the digital side of Leica. I’ll definitely keep your experience in mind while I’m looking. Glad to hear your M4 acquisition worked out so well!
Congratulations. The M4 is a wonderful machine; essentially an M6 without a meter. But the M4 benefits from being the better built camera, since it was the last of the Ms to utilize mostly brass components inside, including gears, etc. Later cameras (including the M6) use mostly zinc. Enjoy the process!
Ha, I started watching your video and thought "that looks like Ellicot City", and sure enough it is. I stumbled on my dream M4 at Service Photo in Baltimore 2 years ago. Love the camera. I really enjoy your photos, very much the types of things I shoot.
Thank you for the watch and compliments on my photos! Love going up to Service Photo…they’ve always helped hook me up with good things. Do you get to shoot a lot with your M4? And what are your favorite film stocks?
I am mainly using my M9 right now but when I do shoot film I like HP5. Been shooting film since I was 18 and am 67 now. I am enjoying having images as soon as I get home without having to develop and scan now days. @@michaelmarshallphotography5515
I completely understand that. I've never shot a digital Leica...how is it??? HP5 is literally top shelf in B&W film stocks. I do find I like FP4.....and of course.... my favorite 125px. (Bring it back Kodak!).
I’ve been meaning to do that! I have basically all of the stuff, chemical trays, enlarger, focuser, etc. I just need to buy the chemicals and build the space out. But it is very much on my “to do” list!

I have been using the original black paint body with 8 Element for 10 years. I think this is the design that shows the most perfect unity. And above all, it is suitable for practical use at a good price. I hope you take many great photos with m4.

Thanks, I too own an M4 with a Voigtlander 35mm and Zeiss 50mm, but I have always liked the 40mm focal length. Can you comment on the use of this lens, which frame lines are displayed etc. regards
Fantastic question… so when the 40mm is attached it sets the frame lines to 50mm. I find myself using the frame line adjustment to switch back and forth between 35mm and 50mm for composition purposes. I’m still trying to figure out the best practices to nail the composition though. And thank you so much for watching!
Thank you so much! I'm glad to hear you liked it! As for the notebook, nothing terribly exciting. I'm just recording exposure details (shutter speed and aperture).
