  • In this first episode of my road trip series, I am in Larnaca, a port city and beach resort town. Larnaca might not be the most impressive place you've ever been to, but it is not as bad as some bloggers think. There is a medieval castle, a mosque, some old churches and of course the beach. The biggest attraction of Larnaca, however, are the thousands of cute flamingos in Larnaca Salt Lake! They come to Cyprus only in winter - from November to March, so it was the right time to visit to see the flamingos!
Follow me on my one-week road trip across the island of CYPRUS in February 2017 - visiting Larnaca, Cape Greko, Ayia Napa, Nissi Beach, Nicosia (Lefkosia/Lefkoşa), Troodos Mountains, Paphos, Petra tou Romiou (Aphrodite's Rock), Kourion, Limassol and Governor's Beach.

Very nice. I was visiting Cyprus in January 2015, this refreshes my memories. You should have also driven to the Turkish part, or have you?

+WhyGoThere I was in North Cyprus, but this time only in Nicosia (Lefkoşa). The rental company wouldn't let me take the car over to the Turkish side and I didn't wanna risk anything. There'll be more videos coming soon, and Part 3 will feature Nicosia. :-)

I will go to Chyprus in September but I heard that some car rental companies are not thrustworthy. Which company did you use? What cities do you advice me to do? With my friend we want to do Lanarca/Polis/Paphos/Limassol/Ayia Nappa.

I used SIXT at Larnaca Airport and as you can see in my video series, they gave me a brand new VW Golf with just a few thousand kilometers. You can see in my video series where I went and get some impressions. Your list of places sounds good and I would advise you to consider a day up in the mountains as well, to Troodos and Kykkos monastery and back down through Cedar Valley. It's a totally different type of Cyprus and definitely worth checking out, especially on an otherwise hot day on the coast (highest peak Mount Olympos is at almost 2,000m above sea level!) Nicosia is also interesting, if you want to see the Turkish part and check out their food and coffee. Ayia Napa depends on your personal interests, I personally don't like "binge drinking" party towns. The nature in that area is beautiful, though.

sorry my answer is too late but if any body can get help, always use regency car hire cyprus, they supply cars at both paphos and larnaca airports,no deposit or credit card details taken, you can not take their cars to northern cyprus though.

Great video! Going in 2 weeks. Can you rent the same car from Larnaca Airport for Paphos and Ayia Napa?

Hi, Alejandra. Thanks for your comment. :) I am not sure what you mean by "the same car"? Well, I rented a car at Larnaca Airport and drove around the Greek part of the island. I used Sixt because they have a modern fleet and you usually get unlimited mileage when you book online - no advertising intended, just my honest opinion. Larnaca, Paphos and Ayia Napa are all connected by motorways, easy to drive (does not take long to get used to driving on the left side of the road). Maybe you should also consider driving up Troodos mountains or visit Nicosia and the Turkish part of the city! You can check out my other videos from Cyprus to get some inspiration. Have fun in Cyprus!!!
