This was one of the best things I've watched in a while. When you said, "I'll just add red to it" I died. That was the icing on the cake, pun definitely intended. lmao
I was thinking she would put blue and do a marble effect, but she made poo instead! 😂 (she could have drawn branches with the brown and indented some leafs in the green, but sprinkles works just as well for me!
When you said "I'll add some green", I thought "oh, she's going to do the _piping_ with green frosting? Bold, but interesting"... and then you slathered a gigantic dollop of it right on the top, just to, you know, make sure there was no coming back from it. Not gonna lie, my jaw physically dropped open. 😆😆 This is loads of fun, though, definitely not a waste of time. ♥
You absolutely didn't waste my time. This was so much fun! Please do similar videos once in a while. I love to watch people genuinely do things really badly. Which I guess is where my daughter gets it. I draw awful. AWFUL. Like maybe a pre-schooler could draw better than I can. And my daughter absolutely loves my drawings. I've branched out into paintings now. lol
I really love that! I feel like so many times we're taught that in order to do something or enjoy doing something, we have to be really good at it. I am terrible at art, but it looks like it's so fun! I signed my daughter and I up for a painting class in Nov! Very excited.
people who are really good at what they do often make their jobs look easy and it's hard to remember that those skills come with tons of practice and time (i'm guilty of forgetting this a lot) but good job finishing your cake!!
This was a riot to watch. I actually watched this one with my Grandmother who used to do some beautiful cake decorating complete with elaborate fondant flowers. She got a good laugh out of it as well. Nailed it Ellbat XD
As a fully qualified chef who has had to make some extravagant cakes for special occasions, sometimes last minute… I can just say wow! this is a true show of perseverance and determination to make a mess into a well, cake 🍰 Also at the beginning when you said you want to do something “easy” I was laughing I mean you didn’t even have to make the cake 😅 xxxx I’m sure it tasted lovely
I’m in the same boat. As someone who’s made fancy cakes for events both at home and in a professional kitchen, it is *much* easier when you have the space, tools, and (in some cases) training the professionals do.
You really didn't do too badly. Two sections where I have suggestions (from someone who was taught to do this in culinary school) would be: 1 Construction. Next time, use the already round cake as your base and find a cake tin (or similar) to basically "cookie-cut" out round portions from the tray cakes. (They actually make cutters for cakes in case you need to do this-though baking them in the corect shaped tins obviously makes life simpler). 2 Frosting. Adding a bit more blue to darken your frosting would have helped the color. Putting the cake back in the fridge (and frosting when necessary) would have helped with salvaging the cake. The homemade frosting needed more milk and the store bought white was just too warm. But honestly, you did a really great job with this. It isn't easy to do. Your attempt is very standard for a newer home baker (which I also was back before I was old). Your cake at least held together long enough to be cut (at least it seemed it did) and served. My first attempts were not so lucky and ended up with layers sliding off each other. ;)
I somehow kept believing, throughout the video, that you're gonna make it work haha. the last minute got me laughing with tears. I would like this 3 times if I could !
Thank you for the laugh - who knew that cakey chaos would be something that would brighten my day so much - it's nice to see someone as bad with all things baking as I am!
FrankenCake !!! This made me so happy as that is very similar to what I would be able to create. I love how you put it together like some crazy random puzzle and then just pressed it together. I need more like this. Thank you so much. I needed my good mood brightened. Be over in a minute for some Green Sprinkle Frankencake. Have a great week.
That cake is the second worst cake I’ve scene but this video is one of my favorite 😂 the reactions were so genuine compared to other reactionary content out there where they purposely fail and react big to it. Laughed so hard thank you for having the courage to post!! This is the kind of content I want to create!❤️
"I'll preface this by saying 'I'm not getting married' and I'm not." I dunno EB, I saw your tarot reading video. Three outta three said you had wedding bells in your near future. Please allow me to be the first to say congratulations!!!
I think you did a pretty dang good job for your first cake and no one helping you! I've done wedding cakes and tons of regular type cakes. It's very hard at first. Someone telling you the basics one on one really helps; but mainly you just need practice ❣️ the best part is that it'll still be yummy cake!
This was great fun to. Throw a couple of daisies on it a call it a spring wedding. Sheet cakes used in those videos actually pre-decorated bakery cakes pretty much every major grocery store in America has some kind of bakery in it that makes cakes and cupcakes or a lot more depending on the bakery size. The sheet cake term comes for the size of pans they are baked full sheet and half sheet size. Basically if you walked in a bakery and asked for a cake with icing but nothing written on it or decorations that's what they were using.
Me and every other baker simultaneously having a panic attack but also recognizing that you are appreciative of all the hard work that goes into professional cakes and showing why they cost as much as they do.
My mother (who I gave your kisses to btw), has been a cake decorator for 40 years. And you'd think I would have picked up cake decorating skills in my 30 years of being her daughter...but you'd be HIGHLY mistaken 😅 I think you did great honestly and she said you get an A for effort on this one. But now I want to try this myself 😂
I don't know, it is nice to know that I am not the only person who goes through an intense mental struggle in conjunction with mental loathing when I attempt to do something. Like learning the basics of welding. What an emotional experience, it takes half an hour to set up and 20 minutes to grind off. Each and every time it goes wrong it is painful. And we all know that one person who can do it I infinitely better on their first go
After you did your first layer of icing then put it in the fridge to firm it up. If you icing is too loose then cool it. If it is too warm then letting it warm up a bit will make it looser. I would have added the straws to the bottom tier. Cut them flush. Then add a slightly smaller than your top cake a piece of cardboard to rest on the straws. Opposite colors on the color wheel basically make a mud brown color (red+green, blue+orange, purple+yellow). To better control your piping bag, twist a handful of the icing so you are only squeezing part at a time. If you can't scrape the cake smooth then play with the texture and make it look like a palate knife painting texture. We used scrapers not spatulas to usually flatten the cake. Wipe off any excess icing and rinsing it under hot water and drying it will help it smooth the icing as it softens it as you go.
We have tray bakes too. That's something that people make at home as just a quick thing to make. We don't buy them in stores that way here, so that was kind of interesting to see
You did an awesome job 😀 For your next attempt you should do a castle. Practice makes perfect sometimes you learn that you need certain equipment like cake turn tables. Or that making a royal icing for piping works better. It's all about giving it a go and learning as you go along. I love cake decorating but my piping is shocking. I can spread icing ok but my piping always ends up squiggly. I do love the creativity that comes with cake decorating.
I was sucked in by the click bait and I'm so pleased I was. I was so impressed by the picture of the cake and as an amateur baker knew how hard that would be to do. I was hoping for some amazing insight. Instead I was just wildly entertained and laughed so hard. I've been there too many times sprinkles, chocolates or lollies fix a multitude of errors.
I'm never gonna be a professional baker or cake decorator, and I know a little more about it than you, but I relate to this and the outcome. By the time I've made a cake (usually last minute) and made the icing or picked some color combos and figured out even what I want to do on it, icing is warm and I'm half assing it and it turns out like this gooey mess.
For basic vanilla cake batter, to make cupcakes or big cake. Double everything for latter. 125g of butter (room temp), self raising flour, and castor sugar, 2 eggs, 1 tsp vanilla essence, 1 tsp baking powder Sieve the flour and sugar into a bowl. Add everything else. Whisk until creamy. For cupcakes bake at 190°c for 20 mins. For big cake, I think it's 160°c for 40 minutes but I can't remember exactly.
I’m not sure why I’m just now seeing this but I want you to know you made my morning. Definitely was curious as to why you just didn’t use the round cake as a kind of stencil to our out the tray cakes but I get it live and learn. Laughed so hard when you thought red was a good choice with green 😂 as a painter I knew that you were going to be disappointed in that color choice. Just pretend it’s a springtime cake and call it a day. Loved the whole video ❤ keep on kicking butt and I can’t wait til I can order some of your merch!! Big hugs from Texas
10:34 had me dying from laughter XD edit: okay the last couple of end decisions were amazing XD you made my day! But on a serious note: practice makes perfect, so you could also see this as there being a lot of room for improvement in the future if you want to
That was so much fun. It could have been yes, a Hulk cake. It also could be a drunk St. Patrick's Day cake. That way all the sprinkles would be a big surprise to someone who is snockered.
A little darker green and you'd have British Racing Green, and the fastest cake in the UK!! Uh-oh, I just heard that the police stopped your cake speeding (and being a public atrocity) on the M1! LOL! In all honesty, it looks, well, sweet - but I'm an American and I like sweet so I'd eat it for sure.
Entertaining for sure. However, it's also educational! For me there was so much more behind this. Like allowing yourself to make mistakes and not saying to yourself you just can't do it. Having fun in the process even though the result was far from ideal. Encouraging yourself on the way and saying things like "this looks ok". I'd totally cry or just explode with rage when the frosting dripped over the green cake. Now I need to watch it every day to learn these skills 🤣 or do I need to actually practice them?
I couldn't stop laughing when you said "no, stop it!" and couldn't stop anymore :'D That was just so fun. In the beginning I thought oh, OK just eying it... Interesting choice. But now I'm sitting here laughing a lot about the cake, so I don't mind any choices made
I spent like 90% of the video quite sure that you'd used a clickbait image and then when you said you were gonna dye it green I was like "oh wait, she didn't!"...........until like 1 minute later 🤣. It was super fun to watch though.
You have the most adorable sneezes. My cats used to make the same sound when they sneezed. I'm not eating that sneezecake though. Get it? Like cheesecake? 🍰 ?
Oh you absolutely didn't waste my time, this is great content! Kind of reminiscent of a first audition round from the Great British Bake Off where everything goes wrong for one of the contestants. Only thing missing is a closeup of the cake while its spinning on one of those displaythings with some serene music in the background
As a Pastry Chef here, I can testify that the cooking programs make it look easy. Quite a few things went wrong here. But next time consider putting the cake in the fridge through the icing process to firm it up. Test your skill with the piping bag on a plate before actually doing it on the cake then you can test the icing consistency beforehand. And as of always pastry is a lot of practice so keep at it. Check out some RUclips videos before trying this again and good luck. There is a reason why wedding cakes are so expensive… 😉
Might have been an idea to use the round cake as the base layer, no trimming required. Then use a plate or similar to trim the oblong cakes into circles. Maybe. 🤷♀️
Quick tip to actually save a cake that has white icing you can make the icing slightly more liquid and basically flatten it on top then drizzle it til it drips around the edges. My friend made one of our friends a birthday cake and had literally bought a angel food cake (2 levels to it) then iced it like you did. Then she did the drip technique and tossed on some sprinkles. It looked super cute. 🎉 Also do they have box cake mixes in the UK? I'm just curious
I LOVE THIS!!!!! I was having such a bad day and watching you make this where it just kept getting better and better and then 16:02 happened I literally was in TEARS laughing because BRUH ME TOO!!!!!!!!!
Can we please do colab with Rossana Pansino. Part 1 her review of your methodes. Part two her teaching you how to actually bake and decorate a cake. I would love that! (Or if she is unavailable, a baker in you area?) Love this video! Glad to be reminded that it is not me 😂.
Randomly cutting circle-ish shapes instead of cutting around anything circular you would have in a kitchen is the neutrally chaotic energy I needed today
The downward spiral in this video had me dying 😂. I have to say, I'm so bad at cake decorating so I totally relate. It'll still taste great so that's what counts♥️
Thank you so much or this! It was delicious to watch 😁 I was so sad when you stopped trying to do the piping decoration... and was really about to die when you said you'd make it green. Still, I didn't think it would turn so much like a football field and I was laughing hard at this point. So sorry that it didn't work like you've envisioned it and that you gave it up. But I imagine how frustrated you were by the end of this video. Nice try! I hope you try it again one day. 🙂 By the way, I love your sense of humor! It makes my day!
As stressful as this video was to watch, i do believe that you can do way better if you watch a couple of other people do it first maybe. Also, this cake turned out like a very cool but not (gifted with baking skills) aunt tried to bake a cake for their favorite nephew... it might look like shit but is full of love and we still love it 🧡🧡
I actually laughed out loud for a while when you just started to genuinely get so done with the Hulk Cake. I'd say that it was a good try, still. Horrifying, but good
I give it an A+ for the shape, because you did a pretty good job in making it round! 👏 And for the icing a B-, I mean who wants a plain white/pink wedding cake anyway, so boring! So for creativity it was perfect, only the unevenly spreading of the icing could've been a bit more accurate. All in all, I'd be down for a taste test ✌😄
The part you struggled with the most actually has surprisingly simple solutions: 1) Freeze the cake before putting any icing on, and 2) Do what's called a crumb coat, or a very thin coat to trap all the crumbs, then chill it again before doing the final coat of icing. That would have saved you at least an hour of time. Not your fault, you didn't know!
For buttercream icing: use twice as much (weight-wise) icing sugar as you have room temperature butter. Whisk just the butter until pale, then sift in the sugar and whisk again. Add a splash of vanilla essence and whisk again. Enjoy. Ps, add teaspoon of milk or two if you feel it needs it
Hey, wanted to let you know that you were using the icing spatula backwards. It's angled so that when you're holding it, your hand is away from the cake. This allows you to smooth the icing without body parts getting in the way and messing up the smooth sections that you already did.
You have such raw talent that cake has character! Don't give up try again. Maybe your thing is pie or rice Krispie treats . ps-next time keep your piping bag in the fridge.

3) get a buttercream icing or make a semi stiff icing and do 'swooshing' in other words just do a crumb coat, chill but instead of trying to do perfect smooth icing just slap it on and just cover the cake doing little swooshes/ocean like waves-an intentional way of doing a rustic look for icing. It's mean to be like all wavy and fluffy looking.
4) take a sieve and put cocoa power or edible glitter and just dust the cake then slap on as many sprinkles as you like. If you're feeling frisky you can add icing details but honestly it will look amazing without.
If you NEED to use sheet cake, and you want a round cake, just hold a plate in one hand above the cake and take a long knife and gentle saw around the cake. remove excess.
I've done some poor mans cake baking and decorating. trust me, if you do it with intention to look rustic it will had this playfulness that people love.

That was just so fun.
Omg, thanks for making my morning! Best realistic cake video ever!!!!😂
if you chill it so the frosting hardens up you can neaten it up so it looks good :)
it’s 5 in the morning, ellbat is more important then sleep 😌🤍
Maybe. 🤷♀️
That’s CHEATING
@@Ellbat it wouldn't have been anywhere near as entertaining, but cheating? Nah.
@@Ellbat Definitely cheating.
this was incredibly soothing, thank you
Honestly this video was hilarious I could watch an entire playlist of this!
Great entertainment for a wet afternoon! I enjoyed your efforts immensely, thank you!
Also do they have box cake mixes in the UK? I'm just curious
aint the Cake World just Amazing. hell i like Cake
Making this cake had so much
3 year old: "Mommy, I made this for you!"
-Energy-
it was incredible to behold! 🏆😂
~the most relatable thing I’ve ever seen~ 💖
watching this made me realize how much I actually know about decorating cakes...
i don't know whether to laugh or cry
I’ve been really enjoying your videos as of late, especially when i want to wind down at the end of the day 😌
This was honestly one of the best things I've seen in days.
What made it funnier for me is how it progressively got worse but you stayed so calm 🤣🤣
OMG Elbat! I died laughing! Thank you so much for making my day brighter! (And my kisses to your mother 😘)
(Or if she is unavailable, a baker in you area?)
Love this video! Glad to be reminded that it is not me 😂.
Randomly cutting circle-ish shapes instead of cutting around anything circular you would have in a kitchen is the neutrally chaotic energy I needed today
Not a waste of time at all. I haven't laughed this hard in a long time. Thank you!
The downward spiral in this video had me dying 😂. I have to say, I'm so bad at cake decorating so I totally relate. It'll still taste great so that's what counts♥️
Thank you so much or this! It was delicious to watch 😁
I was so sad when you stopped trying to do the piping decoration... and was really about to die when you said you'd make it green. It makes my day!
this has to be my favorite video yet, hands down 😭😭
As stressful as this video was to watch, i do believe that you can do way better if you watch a couple of other people do it first maybe.
Horrifying, but good
Frakencake just needs to be loved.
girl I really wish you had used a bowl as a guide to cut the cakes more circular haha. Proud of your efforts though!
Ooo I love this video concept!
Pure chaos 😂😂
I’m so sorry 😭
Honestly yours turned out a lot better than I was expecting for a beginner so well done, apart from the green lol
When I saw how much green you added, I just thought "Oh no!". It had been going pretty well up to that point
Enjoy.
Ps, add teaspoon of milk or two if you feel it needs it
When piping details, refrigerate before use to firm the icing
This was so funny to watch, thank you for making such a fun video! :')
dw ellbat, you can just put it in front of a greenscreen and it'll just ✨️disappear✨️
At one point in this video i actually thought I would fall out of my chair from laughing.. amazing content. Love it.
This is too silly and I needed this. Thank you!
I loved this…I say make this a series!
Hey, wanted to let you know that you were using the icing spatula backwards. It's angled so that when you're holding it, your hand is away from the cake. This allows you to smooth the icing without body parts getting in the way and messing up the smooth sections that you already did.
As soon as you said add green I was like FOR A WEDDING?! I had such high hopes lmao
You have such raw talent that cake has character! Don't give up try again. Maybe your thing is pie or rice Krispie treats . ps-next time keep your piping bag in the fridge.
Take the tray bakes, turn one down onto the other. That gives icing and candies in between 2 naked layers? Then ice the naked bits as you please!
