    back in the day, beaver fur was used to make hats. All those fancy top hats you see in pictures from the 1800s- felt from beaver fur. even today the cowboys at the rodeos will tell you that the best cowboy hats are made from beaver.

    I was taught some of these exact methods when I was young, but in Michigan, except we use odorless mineral spirits to cut the grease out of the fur.
    Early on you can see him put the pelts on the roof, you do that, especially on the Reservation because of the roaming dogs, they can't get the pelt if it's on the roof, they also put bags of trash on the roof for the same reason.

    I thought spring beaver had bad fur, not as nice as fall when ready for winter, yes/no. Definitely skilled at their job. I only trap in fall because that is what I was taught. I prefer a twig to stretch because lighter than plywood. Thanks.
