With respect, have you actually read the book? Kubrick's film pretty much takes the book, rips most of the pages out, throws them away and makes a film that kinda sorta resembles the art on the cover of the book. Stephen King never liked Kubrick version and I'm with him! Even the great Jack Nicholson can't save that film and I'm a massive fan of Nicholson, his is the only big screen Joker I rate. If you like it, great, but you can't say there's no comparing the film to it's source material, because there is, there will always be when a film is based on a book.
I absolutely read the book. It was fantastic. I’ve stated that a few times in this video actually. I do agree that Stanley Kubrick completely ripped the entire story, the characters & idea overall. However I think Stanley was trying to tell his own story with his work. Stephan King’s novel is more like a typical haunted hotel ghost story (for example: the topiary animals coming to live or showing signs of movement ever so slightly) as for Kubrick , he made a movie showing a man go crazy on his own. In the book, the hotel is the problem but jack is the evil in the movie. In the book, it was hedge animals but the movie was a maze. In the book, Wendy was tough and had a good back bone but in the movie Wendy is an absolute pushover. The book ends in flames & the movie ends in ice. I respect both pieces of work but you cannot compare the two because the author and the director were both trying to tell different stories. Same characters same concept ... but different stories .
@@CryptoNWOClips I see what you're saying, but it's like taking, say, Rachmaninoff's Second and giving it to a modern rapper to do his own thing with; what you end up with is a soulless mess that doesn't resemble the original concerto. I don't hate the movie, I just don't see the point in it. It's like the remake of Pet Semetery, they mucked about with it so much it ended up being a shambles and no-one I've talked to about it thinks it's any good. I just don't understand why film makers can't follow the books. King seems destined to have almost all of his novels butchered to some degree!
