For years I’ve reviewed 1080p, 27” monitors, and I’ve almost always steered clear thanks to the lower pixel density, but it’s been a while so lets see if they are still not great, or if something like this Viewsonic XG2705 is worth picking up.

Dude, we can't all all afford better displays - this is a general criticism that I have regarding reviewers of PC hardware, "if it isn't top of the line then it is crap", keep an open mind and do realize that while most people will be more than happy to see a review of something high end, a lot of us simply cannot afford it or find it anything but reasonable to find a place for a 4K monitor in their monthly expenses. It is a big world, and not every country pays equally for the same provided effort.

Just because you and others can’t afford it doesn’t mean he can’t review it. I can’t afford it either but still watching these reviews can be helpful in the future (when you have more money) when looking for a monitor.

A low-DPI, large, otherwise fairly high-quality display like this one is perfect for those who sit far from their monitors and/or have poorer eyesight. I can think of a few relatives who might be interested in a 27" 1080p display with solid image quality and brightness. I recommended a 20" or 24" to one of them years ago and have been regretting it since the first moment I saw that they had set Windows display scaling to around 200%!

I bought a 27 inch 1080p 165hz monitor ($145 prices are way down) for my nephew to game with and he was unhappy because my wife had lent him her 27 inch 1440p 60hz monitor. I'm afraid this is going to become a learning lesson for him. Either he will learn to sit a meter back from the screen or I will give the monitor away to someone who doesn't have a high refresh IPS 1080p monitor.. Likewise, my niece said she wanted the latest iPhone and I told her she needed a husband who made good money.

I currently have a 27" 1080p monitor and I can say that if you find a cheap price for a monitor like this, you should definitely take it, it can definitely be blurry for some people at first BUT make sure to change the monitors in-built sharpness settings, I played around with mine and it looks crystal clear now, I highly recommend it for people whose bank can't afford a 4k monitor and generally just want to have a big monitor.
Edit: also turn on ClearType when possible! I never noticed that it made such a huge difference in some text.

Still not the greatest for web browsing (still looks good, not amazing), but for gaming or youtube videos, basically things in motion, it looks nicely detailed and crisp. I agree that the sharpness settings in modern monitors can move the experience from fine to good.

I mean sure but native pixel aligned 1080P is a lot better than not pixel aligned 1080P on a 1440P 27in monitor. The pixel load you are trying to drive is only 56%. A much lighter load compared to 1440P. This is more desirable for gaming especially with 32 rop and 48 rop GPUs running at such high core clocks. With the new GPUs running as high as 2500MHz, I expect to see the entry to lower midrange GPUs to do really well at high Hz 1080P.
Yes 1440P 1440Hz is now doable but were are just getting there now honestly.

1080p at 27inch, text and icon on desktop appears larger. Good desktop experience. For gaming, 1080p still good resolution for high performance gaming 144hz 240hz. Get 27 inch 144hz monitor. Low pixel density, yeah it is true. 27" 1080p around 85ppi. But text and icon appear larger at native resolution. On 4k monitor if you want bigger icons on desktop, you need to trun down resolution to 1080p but with loss of picture clearity. 1080p native 27" is good for both gaming and desktop experience.

1070ti you need to lower game settings, your processor is consider a bottleneck tho, stick with 1080 and you are gucci unless you want to get a better cpu and play 1440p at lower settings barely reaching 60-65 fps for high demanding games, just count how much fps u have right now and expect it to be deducted around 30fps and that is the the actual fps you are going to get when running on 1440p.

Recommending AOC 24g2u over XG2705 is a really bad advice. First off, Viewsonic offers better quality control, secondly, according to my personal observation 27" panels are not just about the size, but also about quality. Manufacturer aside, they don't suffer as much from dead pixels in general. Not sure why, perhaps it has something to do with pixel density or maybe anything greater than 24 employs more accurate technology. 24g2u uses Panda, and frankly, when it comes to quality both AOC and Panda suck, people return these monitors every day in bulks and while they're pretty cool on the outside they definitely aren't worth any expenditure, I would only accept one like that for free.
