I agree with you 100%. YES is not YES without Jon and Rick. Once here in Monterrey, I was having lunch with Rick, Jon, Steve and Alan (RIP), Chris, as always, lost the plane from LA to MTY and was not present. Their manager Paul Silveira was also present. So, I thought this should not be a big issue at all, and asked "Guys, who really owns the YES brand"? ALL OF THEM, including Paul, stopped eating and looked at me like throwing darts directly to my eyes. I was petrified. Like if a nuke had exploded or something. Paul who spoke Spanish so none of them could understand told me something like "Eduardo you are touching a very sensitive issue, because as we speak, there are legal battles between the ones present here, so I suggest you change the topic.". The first to react was Steve, he was very angry. So, let me give you a hint. Why John, Bill Bruford, Rick and Steve HAD TO name their album ANDERSON BRUFORD WAKEMAN HOWE, instead of YES.... Cheers !!!! Stay Safe.
This song, this particular "unplugged" live version has a very special and a very significant meaning for me. I have a story to tell and share with you. A very good friend of mine, a concert promoter, knowing that I and a lot of friends were Yes fans he thought of bringing Yes to my city. And he did made all the arrangements, negotiations and agreements well in advance. Transportation was an issue so he asked me "Would you like to drive for one or two Yes members, you know, airport to hotel, hotel to night private party, hotel to sound check, and so forth.... " my immediate response was YES (since we were very good friends I requested, if possible, I would like to drive for Jon and Rick) and he said OK. It was 2004, the concert date was 22.SEP.2004. Two days before I was driving airport to hotel with Jon as copilot, Rick was on the third seat of my Suburban and the manager of Yes in the middle seat. Airport to hotel was easily a 25-30 minute drive. Before continuing, I need to say that I drove my kids from home to school every morning, a 25 minute ride, and I used to play my favorite Yes songs and other band's songs. So my 2 daughters and my son became Yes fans before their teens. Back to driving to the hotel I told Jon, "Jon you are going to meet the biggest and youngest Yes fan on the planet...... (he was intrigued) and asked who is she? I told him it is my daughter Paulina....... he asked me how old is she, I told him she is 14 years old and he said well that's great.....then I asked Jon, would it be possible to include a song in the concert that Paulina likes very much? I am talking about THE MEETING..... Jon looks back to Rick and asks hey Rick do you think we could perform The Meeting for Eduardo's daughter and Rick responded, of course, I don't see why not". The Meeting was not part of their program. Paulina and I drove Jon and Rick to the concert, we had backstage IDs so I introduced Paulina to Jon before the show and Jon said "so you are our #1 fan, right?" Paulina said yes, almost crying for the emotion. We took our seats, first row on the right side of the stage, the concert went on, Jon noticed where we were sitting/standing/singing. Suddenly the first chords of The Meeting start playing, Jon looks at Paulina and points to her in a very gently discrete manner. The song goes on and the tears along with a smiling face project the emotions of Paulina...... the song ends and Jon looks back to Paulina and points to her. WOW this was an unbelievable moment where my 14 year old daughter and me were being considered/honored by Jon and Rick. It was fantastic..... something I will never forget, being a Yes fan. I do have a testimony, a video of Rick and me where Rick corroborates what I have shared here. I might edit that portion of the video to post it here in RUclips for you to see and hear from Rick. In the meantime please stay safe and healthy. Cheers.
A beautiful story and one to cherish for your daughter's lifetime. Two of the most significant musicians of their time and they played a song specifically for her. What a gift you gave her.
@@chadbennett7873 Thank you Chad.... as you said.... this is a lifetime story that Jon and Rick decided to do; I just made the suggestion and it worked. Cheers.
I agree - and I was not a fan of Howe . . . Years ago, Jim Vallance (Bryan Adams's co-Writer & Producer) said to me: "There are some REALLY clever & talented players, out there. Some of them are really good people - some of them are assholes. Who would you rather work with ?!?" I've never forgotten that.
This song is so complex that I find myself reversing in order to hear the notes which are powerful and engaging, I already hear a story...But, the words elude me, they always do, I am so matched to the music that, I try to balance on a balance, too, understand each. I remember lying in bed listening to concerts of Beethoven, etc. and making up stories based on the music and then, listening to popular songs and trying to understand the lyrics (we didn't have google). It's so more complex, there is a true desire to find solace in something so beautiful and revealing/truthful/kind/loving/passionate/giving/understanding/forgiving/honest/insightful/soulful/dancing knowing that perhaps you made a difference. Rick, once called the Keyboard Wizard is perhaps one of the best keyboardists of all time. He is a master. On the other hand Jon is a genius creating melodies. I know both of them personally. A friend of mine used to be a promoter of concerts and YES came to play in my city. My friend ask me to be a chauffeur (driver) to take care of Jon and Rick. I drove them from the airport to their hotel. From the hotel to the sound check and back to the hotel. Hotel to concert. Concert to after show party, etc. I have photos of Jon, Rick, Steve, Alan and me (Chris missed his flight, as usual) and video with Rick and me. They are extremely open people. I facilitated their press conference translating English to Spanish and vice versa and make sure each journalist or member of the press had a chance to ask, etc. One or two years after they came, Rick returned with his own band to play and again, I was his driver and took him downtown for shopping. As you can imagine I had a great time and a great opportunity to talk to them and ask them all kinds of questions. As of today I still exchange email with Rick. I might sometime in the future prepare a video including all the photos I have of them and them and me including all their studio LPs autographed by all of them and a pair of drum sticks autographed by Alan and a video of Rick signing a keyboard of a friend of mine and saying hello to each of my family members and me playing drums with his musicians. Cheers, Eduardo
For my wedding, I compiled the list of music to be played. While the last 4 lines of "And You and I" were part of my wedding vows to my wife, "The Meeting" was the song that played prior to the ceremony itself. Absolutely beautiful music.
If that's not brilliant then please tell me what is? Jon forgot to sing the second verse and sang the first verse twice, but it doesn't matter. This is brilliant.
This was one of the biggest pleasant surprises of the tour. I hadn't heard it since the AWBH tour back about 1989. It think this was also the tour Trevor Rabin played Awaken which shocked me.
The ABWH project had so much potential. If they only, at the very least, had let them do their part of the Union album as they wanted, maybe the story surrounding it would've been much better.

Not even Emerson God bless his soul. I have been arguing this point for 40 years, and now after having seen them both many times since then I am still in love with Wakeman"s tickling. But it is a matter of apples beng better than oranges, depends on your taste.
I wonder if Jon screwed up the lyrics by repeating the first verse at the end rather than singing the real last verse: Surely I could tell If you ask me Lord To board the train My life my love would be the same As I could be the one for you In the meeting of your love In the meeting of your love Jon was making a lot of lyrical mistakes on that tour. But I still loved the show I went to!
Stunningly beautiful playing (and singing)! But is this from the ABWH period? Or later? They look a lot older than they did in 1989, if memory serves me...! LOL! Thanks for uploading that, anyway!
The first I heard was on ABWH but I do know that sometimes little glimpses of songs would show up elsewhere in the yes library. I knew every beat of the ABWH album before I backtracked to Steve Howe homebrew and there are bits of the ABWH material woven into all of it? I think they would fiddle around with things and try them out as bits of another song before lacing it together in the final version that is best known. They also referred to a !of of old song titles in the quartet song on ABWH.
Second verse, same as the first...oops. "Surely I could tell If you ask me Lord To board the train My life my love would be the same As I could be the one for you In the meeting of your love In the meeting of your love"
I listen to this and wonder, why doesn't Steve Howe want to get back together with his old pal? It was Jon Anderson who brought Howe into YES so he owes him one, doesn't he?
SamuraiSamara 69 ...because Steve Howe is “finally” in charge of the band, after 50 years and doesn’t want to give that up. Yes, it seems silly, but it may just be that simple and petty. Steve Howe appears to have a huge ego and just seems to be a first class prick. I have seen the “Steve Howe Band” (aka “Yes”) several times in concert, but won’t bother doing so again. The “Steve Howe Band” is hollow and comes across merely as a Yes tribute band. As stellar as Howe’s playing still is after all these decades, the other players aren’t of the same caliber and it is painfully obvious. Howe cannot capture or recreate the spirit of Yes by himself.
I remember having lunch with Jon, Steve, Alan, Rick and the manager of Yes. Chris was late, he missed the plane and did arrive the next day. So I thought it was a good opportunity to ask the following question "Who owns the YES brand?" everyone looked at me as if I had thrown 10 or more logs into a fire that had been burning for years. The manager of Yes, who spoke Spanish, told me the following (in Spanish) so they could not understand: "Eduardo this is a very touchy matter, they have been fighting this for years and some of those fights, have been taken into legal courts so please change the subject". After he spoke, Steve told me something like "Do you always have to talk as if we were in an interview?" and I could see he was very angry. Jon told me "Hey Eduardo can you please take me downtown to do some shopping?" and I said "Sure", before we left Rick told me "Eduardo please let me know when you return with Jon because I want to do some shopping too" and I said "of course". I took Jon, then Rick and after that there was a press conference and my roll was to translate English to Spanish and vice-versa. As of today, I don't know for sure who is or who are the owners of the Yes brand. My guess is Chris (RIP). Do you remember the album ABW&H it was all of them except Chris and they could not use the brand YES. Do you remember 90125? it was all of them except Steve and Rick and they did use the brand YES. Your thoughts?
@@eojeda1375 I remember the 90125 and ABW&H tours well - I was there, as I have been for almost every tour that came near me. I still play the albums. Over the past 45 years or so, I have seen Yes in all of it's incarnations. As a kid in the late 1960's, I was very fortunate to be introduced to Yes by my older brother who bought their very first album (he once saw Yes open for Emerson, Lake, and Palmer!! Imagine THAT concert!). I saw Yes live for the first time in 1977 on the "Relayer" tour (my very first concert, I was 15 at the time). Since that first show, I have probably seen them 35 - 40 times with various lineups, including ABWH and more recently, as ARW. I have also attended the separate solo tours of both Anderson and Wakeman. As stated previously, I will not waste money on another "Steve Howe Band" concert. I'm done. My older brother, who is now in his late 60's, feels the same way - no more of that incarnation. I will gladly pay to see Anderson, Rabin, Wakeman (ARW) again in a heartbeat - that show was terrific!! But no more Steve Howe Band - that is a sad incarnation of the once great "Yes" (the greatest band ever, in my opinion). Unlike you, Eduardo, I have never been fortunate enough to meet any of the musicians in Yes, other than shaking Jon's hand before a show once as he stepped out of a taxi cab right in front of me about an hour before a concert. So I can't give any first-hand account of the personalities, differences, or licensing issues. I only have what I have read or heard from others such as yourself. The Yes saga is very similar to the turmoil with the current Styx band and them pushing out founder Dennis DeYoung. It is very clear that Jon was pushed out in 2008 when he had his health issues and couldn't tour. I thought, they might tour one time with Benoit as a fill-in singer, and then Jon would come back to reclaim his rightful place in the lineup when his health improved. But it was clear when they moved on through the years without Jon, even though he could clearly still sing as well as ever. I saw him in solo shows a couple of times during this period, and can attest that he was still in great voice and could still sing Yes music - far better than the Yes replacement singers. Benoit David and Jon Davisson are good singers for a tribute band but just don't have the gifts that Jon Anderson has (it is very noticeable on stage). Even now, at age 75, Anderson can STILL sing it!! Current "Yes" (aka "The Steve Howe Band") is sorely lacking the musicianship of the original bandmembers. That band badly needs Jon's spirit, his presence, his leadership, and his voice. Steve Howe does not have the personality or charisma to be concert master in front of an audience. He has no warmth and cannot connect with the audience. He is a master technician, a brilliant guitar virtuoso, arguably one of the greatest guitarists who has ever played. But he does not come across as someone you would enjoy sharing a meal or a beer with. Jon has asked for years to reunite with the remaining Yes (they need him badly). Even more importantly, the fans want Jon Anderson back to sing the vocals and lead the band for one final go, before they all become disabled (like Alan White), or pass away (Chris). But Steve Howe's ego stands in the way - fans be damned!
One of the best progressive rock voice and one of the best keyboarder . What duet! Amazing music !
❤❤❤

Is it not genius?
