Most Black Mirror episodes either leave me adrift in silent horror, or analyzing the current political/social climate & thinking how easy we could become like that. San Junipero however just leaves me crying over it's beauty of second chances, new love for older people (also not a thing seen much unless played for comedy), & lesbian love. The happy ending is so unexpected, for so many reasons. Leave it to Black Mirror with it's near-future scifi to actually give us something realistic that so many other shows don't, a loving lesbian couple who gets to be happy & "live".
BlueRoseFaery The ending of San Junipero isn't a happy one. The people there slowly lose their capacity to feel or care about pretty much everything and get caught up completely in the never ending now. The thing that makes life worth living is that it ends and the database extends it forever to the detriment of all who take part, which is why there's that death rock club. Everything loses means eventually in the simulation.
Their consciousness continues to live happily. San Junipero wasn't an endless torment. The residents could choose to move on and die whenever they wanted, which I imagine the two girls did.

This is an amazingly excellent analysis of the series. If there weren't so many spoilers, I'd suggest using this as a way to explain to the uninitiated why they should watch the show.
No, black mirror can refer to that but it’s first meaning is a mirror held up reflecting our society. It’s a look at ourselves and what we are becoming with all this technology in a foreboding, dark “black“ way.

@@lu.ciel8770 Idk if you ever finished watching, but in case you haven't, the first episode is the most disturbing. When I recommend the show to people I always tell them to skip it. My favorites: Shut Up and Dance (the twist!!) White Bear White Christmas Playtest Be Right Back The Entire History of You San Junipero Fifteen Million Merits The National Anthem Nosedive Men Against Fire Hated in the Nation The Waldo Moment **imo, all the episodes are great. They shine a new light into social issues/future social issues that not many people talk about. I truly believe there are no "bad" episodes in this series. All were very entertaining!
The Waldo Moment is very simple, it does not have any interesting message or criticism. The same with Playtest. If it had a message, I think I'm stupid because I did not see any. And the twist was predictable.
Ratchet Achenbach I believe Waldo did have a message but I have to rewatch it to jolt my memory. Or you could look up analysis on it if you are interested in doing so. You're right about Play test not having any particular message but it was very entertaining. One of my favorites.
+Ratchet Achenbach The Waldo Moment predicted Trump's presidential run years before it happened. As for Playtest, the main character tried to escape his dad's death and his mother's grieving by going around the world. He then goes into a simulation, which is not only in another country than his mom, but it's also in a virtual world. However, by going as far as he could from his issues, he ended up having them shoved in his face and terrorized by them. Also, him not dealing with his problems is what ultimately killed him.
Timothy Matheny you must of misunderstood the use of the word message because you just explained the entire plot of play test, which was clear. The episode was based around the simple fluke of his cellphone going off and was cut short. We didn't see the full effects of the technology due to this and it also didn't have a connection to our world like most of the other episodes relaying a message to the audience. Basically, the chances of play test manifesting and having a ripple effect was very slim unlike the other episodes where the effects of the technology was real and relatable. So again, it had no message.
All the connections between the episodes are really amazing, I never would have noticed them! I just watched "Men Against Fire" yesterday and I knew the song was familiar but unless I binge-watch it (which not a lot of people feel the need to do with "Black Mirror" because each episode is its own thing) of course I never would have caught it. There are definitely a lot of overarching values and elements in the show, but an actual shared universe is quite amazing. I have to say the most unique episode to me is "San Junipero", not because of the technology or the time-swapping (my boyfriend actually thought it was time-travel initially lol), but because of the happy ending, for once! I have to say I was worried with "Nosedive", which was nice but totally predictable and could have used more darkness and a better ending, but every episode since got better and "San Junipero" is maybe my favorite now.
"If technology is a drug - and it does feel like a drug - then what, precisely, are the side effects? This area - between delight and discomfort - is where Black Mirror, my new drama series, is set. The 'black mirror' of the title is the one you'll find on every wall, on every desk, in the palm of every hand: the cold, shiny screen of a TV, a monitor, a smartphone." -Charlie Brooker, asked about Black Mirror series' title
I always thought that Black Mirror is like a metaphor of your device's screen when the lights are out. Where you suddenly could see the miserable you in real life. Not the one the virtual world believes who we are.
This is why I love black mirror. Every single thing that happens isn't just caused by the technology, it's caused by the way we use it. Black Mirror isn't one of those 'ooh fire bad' shows that tells us we need to stop progress because what if something bad happens, it just tell us to be careful, to be mature and actually think about what we're doing. It doesn't blame the progress for the disasters, it blames us, because at the end of the day new technology like we see in the show won't go rouge and kill us. It's like a gun, alone it's harmless, used properly it's useful for defense and hunting for food. If you want to you can kill with it, but the gun isn't the one doing the killing, and it's not because of the gun.
I'm a bit confused why you didn't point out that "black mirror" refers to a computer or mobile screen. technology is always at the heart of every episode, and it seems strange that you don't seem to mention that
No, black mirror can refer to that but it’s first meaning is a mirror held up reflecting our society. It’s a look at ourselves and what we are becoming with all this technology in a foreboding, dark “black“ way.
"No, black mirror can refer to that but it’s first meaning is a mirror" It's called a double entendre - a word or phrase with two meanings. It is "yes" to both.
im English and have seen Black Mirror from the start and luv the darkness of these hypothetical futures, but i love San Junipero for its nostalgic atmosphere and actually happy ending, which is unique in black mirror!
Industrialist2015ofUk It isn't exactly a happy ending. It's not even them. The real ones died and the ones we see are just copies with implanted memories.
San Junipero is the episode that hooked me the most when I first saw it, dream-like score, amazing cast, touching, happy, inspiring, and it´s still my favourite ... but upon recent conexions with other episodes I am starting to think it might be the episode a lot of this series revolves around, and therefore the source of all evil.
Most people would not consider news story headlines from other episodes as sharing a universe. Surely you need more in the way of character interactions, interwoven plot threads etc. This just seems like click bait for some amazing reveal that simply does not exist.
People favor that episode because they assume that they live happily ever after but the characters were actually dead; it's the cookie that continue to live on believing it's the real host(we see this occur in white Christmas). What I find most disturbing is what if they ever decide to change their mind? They are plugged into the machine forever and they're no longer living to make the decision to stop it.
Im Poppy: Yes I agree. It would only be good if they actually were able to salvage the brain and connect it digitally to a machine that let it live on in the fake world with a virtual body. But if the actual biological person dies they are not going to live on or know any difference.
Moral of black mirror... smash your phone, blow up your car, phone, toaster, iron, clock, burn the house down and fucking run into the forest and become a tree person that eats bark and hunts with a pointy stick
I thought black mirror (the title) was meant to be a broken screen of whatever device you're using and with no device to keep you distracted you look upon the broken screen and the true image of your surroundings is reflected on it (which is the show black mirror).
There were two episodes that messed me up, gave me panick attacks and made me sick to my stomach. Even though I don't like it when that happens (obviously) I still think that Black Mirror is an amazing show, especially when it makes you feel a certain way.
Amazing analysis minus equating Waldo to Trump, I think it has more to do with how easy it is to start a political movement these days without having clear principles set or individuals being influenced not based on actual reality as long as you have an effective narrative with a relatable representative of that movement such as Waldo can blind individuals from what's really behind the political mask all politicians wear.
there is so many wrong info in this video... do you even proof check your videos ? Btw black mirror is going down hill ... it's getting less and less grim and mind fuck and more a drama. Please bring back great black mirror elements !!
What this analysis is describing is more or less King's definition of a good horror movie. Nothing earth shattering or insightful, unless you're impressed with easter eggs. Is there any full length documentary about Black mirror out there that goes in depth more?
Some of the episodes have a shared universe but its almost impossible for all of them to be a single universe. Most episodes have an amazing technology while lacking the advanced technology featured in other episodes.
Each episode has something to do with the addictive use of our smartphones and social media up to the point of ridiculousness. And take a look at your phone's screen when it's off, you see a... black mirror !
6:07 yeah, we call it cyberpunk. A near future dystopia where technology and corporations are dominant in the world and cutting edge technology significantly affects human lifes
Thats why I usually introduce this show to new viewers as "a modern Twilight Zone"

I always thought that Black Mirror is like a metaphor of your device's screen when the lights are out. Where you suddenly could see the miserable you in real life. Not the one the virtual world believes who we are.
This is such a fantastic channel; I'm so glad I found it. Every video brings so much meaning to shows/movies I thought I already knew well.
Thank you! Please share our videos and help us spread the word so we can keep making more.
@@thetake thank you.
really? i always thought black mirror as in all of our smart phones when turn off is black and we can see our reflection. lol
21st century twilight zone
Armoni Corbett omg I was just saying the same thing
Pretty much.
If these episodes are connected. Does this mean the facility in season 1 episode 2 is like a energy generating human sweatshop?
Jonsgr8 no its a microverse inside of rick sanchez's car
guess kaluuya never got out after all
This is why I love black mirror. If you want to you can kill with it, but the gun isn't the one doing the killing, and it's not because of the gun.
better know CHRIST JESUS because his time is getting closer and closer ppl better wakeup before its to,to late its TIME TO WAKE UP THE RED OR BLUE 💊💊!
I'm a bit confused why you didn't point out that "black mirror" refers to a computer or mobile screen. technology is always at the heart of every episode, and it seems strange that you don't seem to mention that
Perhaps because it's glaringly obvious
No, black mirror can refer to that but it’s first meaning is a mirror held up reflecting our society. It’s a look at ourselves and what we are becoming with all this technology in a foreboding, dark “black“ way.
Derp.
"No, black mirror can refer to that but it’s first meaning is a mirror"
It's called a double entendre - a word or phrase with two meanings. It is "yes" to both.
Howard Beale I think its reffering to a TV screen while it turned off. You staring into a black mirror doesnt it?
Good job, I didn't notice a lot of this.
NigelDPresents I actually loved the Easter Eggs pointed out in the video.
Black Mirror is the reason why I don't use any Social Media and go back on using a feature phone
If you didn’t understand all the hidden meanings then you’re part of the problem depicted.
im English and have seen Black Mirror from the start and luv the darkness of these hypothetical futures, but i love San Junipero for its nostalgic atmosphere and actually happy ending, which is unique in black mirror!
Industrialist2015ofUk It isn't exactly a happy ending. It's not even them. The real ones died and the ones we see are just copies with implanted memories.
San Junipero is the episode that hooked me the most when I first saw it, dream-like score, amazing cast, touching, happy, inspiring, and it´s still my favourite ... but upon recent conexions with other episodes I am starting to think it might be the episode a lot of this series revolves around, and therefore the source of all evil.
in black mirror, life is less like a box of chocolates and more like a bag of spiders.
"light year" is a meassurement of space, not time
2:43 is that abi from the second episode on the billboard?!
Sara Gulyas yeah lol
nose dive was my favorite episode. anyone else?
Joshua Del Rio it's the realest
troxi metal fr
SAMEEE
White Bear had me shook
Joshua Del Rio entire history of you was amazing too
I honestly am so confused with the first episode of season 1 weirdest episode in the entire series in my opinion
Most people would not consider news story headlines from other episodes as sharing a universe. Surely you need more in the way of character interactions, interwoven plot threads etc. This just seems like click bait for some amazing reveal that simply does not exist.
Love this show!! Great vid
This channel is going places. Keep up the great work!!
You didn’t show clips from ‘Black Museum’ which is by far the best out of all them
Social Media ruined everytrhing
Fk this generation
BUT..San Junipiro is the best
Omg no that episodes so overhyped. If I had to pick an agreeable best for everyone, it's would have to be White Christmas.
people like it because it ends "happily" i think
kaicooper87 San Junipiero is my least favorite episode.
Does this person understand the difference between universe, galaxy, world, and alternate reality?
Anyone else extremely annoyed every time she says "galaxy" instead of universe? Marvel has screwed with my brain!
Abuse of innocent defenseless empathetic beings is disgusting and evil.
Have you done an analysis like this for the OA? I loved this video 😊
Thank you! Yes, we'll definitely be doing one on the OA. Stay tuned :-)
This video is very enjoyable! Thanks!!
There should be a *SPOILER WARNING*
I haven’t seen the show. It seem interesting
"White Christmas: Season 3, episode 7"
There's only 6 episodes in Season 3
"There are stories in which we do fling you into a pit of despair ... and then piss on you ... because people seem to like that."
This channel is cool. I thought these stories some how were all connected. Love this show can't wait for the new ones to come out.
Moral of black mirror... smash your phone, blow up your car, phone, toaster, iron, clock, burn the house down and fucking run into the forest and become a tree person that eats bark and hunts with a pointy stick
Slayer lol
The episode "White Bear" would have made for an excellent movie imo.
I thought black mirror (the title) was meant to be a broken screen of whatever device you're using and with no device to keep you distracted you look upon the broken screen and the true image of your surroundings is reflected on it (which is the show black mirror).
Stay away from implants and Ai's. The way I see it😐😐😐
Good Analysis, just subscribed to your channel, keep going!
A black mirror is also a tool used for scrying.
Is Corona not an episode of Black Mirror?
This isn't analysis, you're taking it at surface level
its a modern day twilight zone really is a great show I love it 🎬🎬🎬
Oh my god, her voice sounds like a text to speech program, it is quite beautiful in a way.
JadenK Ah shit black mirror all over again.
3:09 The name Rannoch also appears in USS Callister as the name of the planet Valdack is hiding on; Rannoch B.
Awesome video!
1:22 whoa that's a lot of easter eggs!
“Shared galaxy” no it’s shared universe
Watching this show high af is a must 😂
not everyone is a drug addicted bum
Combustion69 marijuana is not a drug and you can’t get addicted to it jit
Combustion69 weed is expensive you fuck, how tf u going to call someone who smokes weed a bum 😂😂😂😂 loonietune
@@mazey2896 You should spend that money on proper education since you're probably a dropout.
@@gatewaytotheheart2652 ouch Charlie that hurt! :(
There were two episodes that messed me up, gave me panick attacks and made me sick to my stomach.
It's a shame season 4 and 5 trended towards more happy endings. I guess Netflix was well aware that San Junipero was one of the most watched episodes.
Nosedive is my favorite ending. It feels like a deep breath after running nonstop
there is so many wrong info in this video... do you even proof check your videos ?
BLACK MIRROR IS OUR FUTURE! Seriously, we are very close to the episode of Nose Dive. I give us 10 years.
