A lot like how 'fast', in addition to its most common definition of moving very quickly, can be used to describe being immovable ("Held fast", "Stand fast"). I swear, English is three languages in a trench-coat... XD

I have heard a theory about why this is being done in Kursk now. According to this theory, the Ukrainian army leadership is trying to not allow the Russians to pause the attacks in the eastern territories and to recover and reorganise themselves. Simply to keep the stress and also the high losses for the Russians at a high level.
It also has forced them to pull troops from the front lines, because the conscripts and the disabled "refuseniks" they're bussing in are lining up to surrender and get a decent meal.

Dare I say it, even for russia, which will be able to get back to perhaps a brand new kind of normal, with no more money wasted on wars, and more money invested internally to improve its own standards of living outside of urban areas. A happier and more pleasant life makes for better productivity.
I just think the levels of professionalism -on- of Ukraine's military, become more and more evident as time goes by, and russia just makes itself look worse and worse to the rest of the world... Nothing for them to feel proud about!
As we say here, "it's not big, and it's not clever"... and that kinda befits russia; in these last few decades particularly.
