    Abenkwan is the local name for palmnut soup, a delicacy enjoyed by the people of Ghana, West Africa, my motherland! I served my abenkwan with Fufu, and can be served with rice balls as well! Please enjoy this traditionally prepared rendition of abenkwan/ palmnut Soup!!

    Ingredients:
    Meat of choice (1/4 pound cow foot, goat meat, smoked turkey drums, half of grilled mackerel, 2 small pieces of smoked fish, 2 fresh blue crabs)
    For marinade: 1 big red onion, small piece of ginger, 2 cloves of garlic, 2 Serrano chilis, 2 habanero chilis, 1/2 teaspoon aniseed, 2 cloves of whentia/ grains of Selim.
    3 Roma tomatoes
    1/2 cup turkey berries
    1 can of palmnut cream (available on Amazon)
    1 prekese
    For garnish: petit bell chilis, habanero chilis, fresh Okro, fresh white garden eggs/eggplant.

    I was shocked to see just how similar Ghanaian meat preparation method is to Haitian cooking! Rinsing and/or quick-boiling the meat, blending all the spices into a smooth paste to marinate... I am amazed by how well those techniques from the motherland have been preserved in our cooking today. Thank you for this video!

    thanks for this wonderful recipe! I lived in Ghana for two years and learned how to make nkantenkwan but never abenkwan (because there you have to prepare the palm nuts for a long time and I didn't have a pistil to do it). So thanks for showing how to make the soup from concentrate! Medaase Mame!

      It was already cracked, so I didn't, I should've mention the need to break the prekese to allow it's flavor and aroma to become released into the soup. Thank you mother! love ya!!!

      I was just fortunate to find the fresh ones at a Ghanaian store. It isn’t always stocked fresh. You may find them canned though.

    Hello, where do you get the prekese, turkey berries, smoked fish and the garden eggs from here in the US? I live in Central Florida btw.

      It’s called A&A hot deals in Chandler Arizona. It is a seasonal item. They don’t always have it fresh.
