I've known this recording for more than 50 years. It was, and remains the gold standard for this aria, as far as I'm concerned. No-one to touch her for a warm, natural sound and wonderful phrasing.
Ah, you have some utterly superb recordings to be introduced to. She was one of the greartest sopranos who ever lived. Please search this channel for 33 of her wonderful recordings. Very many thanks for your appreciation.
+nintendy . Many thanks for your appreciation Nintendy. I am sorry you had to put up with me turning the record over---I should have liked to have edited out that bit but the RUclips technology is too clever for me I am afraid ! EMG gramophones were the best acoustic instruments even produced. It is a constant thrill to own one.
+Graham Rankin No problem - it was nice to see you anyway. I'm not good with technology either. It's amazing the quality that can be reproduced from acoustic machines - a lot of people don't seem to appreciate them.
Thank you for your interest but I am at a loss as to why you say that. I have rechecked the speed with the strobe' which checks out at exactly 78 rpm---the speed stated on the label--- and the key is spot on E major. Your further comments appreciated.

I agree totally and thank you for your kind comments.
Beautiful. My father was a pupil of Izzie's. He had many amazing stories to tell.
Oh my. Isobelle Baillie. Never knew of her.
This has taken me ..... I'm lost for words after this first hearing..... what exquisite harmonics.

This is the best version.
Thank you for this recording. This is sublime. Enrapturous. Unforgettable.
Isobel Baillie is one of my all-time favourite sopranos and "sublime" indeed describes her singing exactly. Many thanks for your appreciation.

If I were to mention Halidon House, Wisbech, would that ring a bell with you?
And don't worry about the too fast comments. 78s always sound like this. I was brought up on bricks and blu-tac!!
Not immediately I am afraid.
These 78s are played at an incorrect speed - too fast. - John Austin, Australia
