I have taken family and friends to this place including those who kept saying: "I don't like or eat sushi", well, for them there is a whole range of food to choose for and, so far, there hasn't been one that hasn't eaten sushi. At minimum they went for the rolls but, looking at what I was eating, they tried it and, I had them turned onto sushi because there is a huge variety for them to try for the first time. I did explain to them first what each fish was but, in the end, they all liked the salmon and the mackerel the most.
That’s pretty awesome how your friends were willing to try sushi for the first time at Makino!

Thx for the video. Came here two weeks ago with the family...loved it here!!! Very clean and a great variety of foods. I didn't get any sushi, but I was focusing on the tempura and soup noodle options. Everything looked so good, but it was so hot when we were in Vegas, I wasn't that hungry :)

I have not, but could possibly in the future. I've eaten at the Irvine California location a number of times and it was solid though.

I think Makino has better quality food than Imperial buffet but Imperial has more variety in Chinese food. Both are great , tough call to choose 🤔

There shrimp tempura is very good. Looks like there is a slightly smaller selection then there was pre covid, but still excellent. Dinner has even more items. I believe sashimi is at dinner.

We used to have a Makino here next to John Wayne airport in Orange County. They closed it down since the pandemic, really missed their food.

that potato salad looks really good and i like when its NOT skin on, so, it seemed (from your walk around so far) that it was skinless, and looked bright and tasty. not sure why that stood out to me but i do love tater salad.

Makino is STILL the best Japanese hot food buffet that it beats going to a regular restaurant. And I say "hot food" because, last time I checked, the sushi is the same low quality you'd find in any other self-serve buffet

Looks excellent, but that was lunch... What's on the dinner menu (for fri/sat) that they charge $45+ for? Just wondering... can't imagine what they add for that price... (closest vid is 4 months ago, and they just had small crab clusters doled out one at a time... can't see that as worth double the price)...
The crab legs at dinner are limited to one cluster now. They have sashimi as well. They add some additional fish to the hand rolls too. The value at lunch is pretty good. Thank you for watching!

Why is it so much more on the weekends? Is there a diference in food options?
It’s been a while since we’ve done this review. Back then the cost was higher on the weekends because they served snow crab legs. Not sure if this is still the case in the present.
How do they turn a profit while only charging under $30?

I understand Yelp May not have all positive ratings. Something to consider is that someone who was unhappy, is five times more likely to post a comment about their experience online then someone who was happy. Not much of a bargain if you only have a 75-minute time limit. Buffets USED to give you a THREE-HOUR time limit. Since the pandemic? Cut in half, or worse.
I suppose that would depend on how much you could eat in that time.
It may have gone down, but I can't imagine not being able to get your fill in that time

I remember going here a couple years ago and lunch was like 18.00 than, a year later went up to 27.00 there is better for that price so look around.

Currently, Makino is the only true sushi buffet for those who want to control their own portions and get their own food. If you don’t mind AYCE style where food is made to order and served to you, there are a plethora of options in Vegas.
its ok proper etiquette to eat sushi with your fingers, better than massacring it with a fork
Perhaps, but in a buffet where you are using a community serving utensil to put food on your plate, a fork will be much sanitary.
