I never realised what a lovely bloke Ian Dury is. Just the fact that he thinks he's been lucky in his life says so much about his character and decency.
The way Ian Dury described himself with regards to physical disability was inspirational to me. It's 2022 now and he has always been a Legend in my eyes.
@@mallinalii I only ever got to see him live once (with The Blockheads), at Madstock in Finsbury Park back in 1992. They were old hat even then but absolutely excellent to watch. I would love to have met him but would have had absolutely no idea what to say to him other than thank him for his incredible contribution to British music.
Had the good fortune to meet Ian after his show at Wellington , New Zealand in the Mid? eighties , we were at the hotel/motel House Bar where Ian and the Blockheads were staying. Great guy but he had tobacco mixed with his bag of pot , i told him to be my guest and try our Maori Wowie , he thought I said the Hawaiian pot , Maui wowie , until i told him that no , it was grown here in Kiwiville , by a Maori named Howie. Was a great guy and wrote me a sonnet , and signed my mates leather jacket... " Leather of the Weather ", a great night indeed was had by all. RIP the pair of you guys.
Bob, born in Suffolk and Ian born in Harrow neither are true cockneys. They both have good old skool London accents. Better than mandemz mumbling jafaican mockney these days.
@@AllyRobson He was but he became more humble and pathetic near his final days. He had a really tough childhood and had to literally fight to survive in his day. He was like a tough kid who never quite fully grew up.
i saw this amazing man and singer in Australia .I was amazed how he stood up on stage for 2hrs and i got to speak to him as fold back mixer the most memorable person i have ever met
Ian's songs were, and still are, fantastic! They have a great sound which still sounds great today and they have these fantastic lyrics which paint you an image and tell brilliant stories with those words with which he has a magic way in making you feel something. Just one of those artists that, you know as soon as you pop his stuff on, you're in for a real treat! Miss him and his unique and brilliant sound. Fantastic artist.
Two wonderful, cheeky. well talented, rogues in their own right... lets hope theyre rippin it up wherever they may be ...RIP Bob Hoskins ... sad sad day for the world
god bless Ian dury. I grew up listening to him and the blockheads but wot an interesting guy. he would be the first on my list of People to my dinner party
ian durys quote on steve rights radio show, steve asked how would you best describe yourself, ian calmy replied i"m the east ends best known raspberry ripple... salt of the earth that man....bob was brilliant too,r.i.p gentlemen..
Ian was such a very down to earth guy, as was Bob. I have always found it interesting that Ians name Ian Dury actually sounds like word play on the word injury I wonder if the poet in him ever noticed that.
I love ❤️ Ian Dury’s music and the Blockheads. I went to see the Blockheads about 6 years ago at the Robin2 in Bilston. They are still good, and did some classics, but no one can imitate Dury’s style and delivery and fortunately they didn’t try. Good man yourself Ian. RIP ❤
I grew with ian dury songs hearing them from my parents, and at 13 I was him at the great mud fest at Glastonbury in 1985. Since then I often listened to music but it was only since the internet and documentaries that leant about his polo and disability. I dont think that question half was through is valid.
Would love to see this entire episode. Gabby had a wonderful style as the interviewer and it would have also been interesting to hear what Bob had to say.
condensing presenters, what do they ever know of a brilliance of life that can never be fathomed - Ian had depths that no stiff human could ever reach, not because he was particularly complex, yet because he was right and raw on cue. A beautiful and amazing man, even his children equally as phenomenal - would have given my limbs to have met him, spoken to him and shared a united tipple.
Oh please... you must realise that fanboy complaint about "the presenters" is THE most cliched comment on RUclips. Of course Dury was a beautiful genius but why the hell should an inoffensive blow-dried-prime-time-skirt-for-the-masses interviewer have to be the same? There was absolutely no "condescension" whatsoever. Sure most of her questions were pretty banal but I for one certainly enjoyed Dury's responses.
I don't think Ian Dury or Bob Hoskins thought of her as condescending. I think it's more you thinking too much into what they're thinking. Gabby Roslin is respected in the UK.
Bob Hoskins is great, but it's Ian Dury it's all about - Low talking - but he gets in his talking and you just listen - and there it is - always in his music!!!
i used to watch this clip and 'mourn the decline with some thunderbird wine' of ian. now I have to watch it and cry over bob. rest in peace. I hope you're both annoying germans in heaven...
I've never seen this before nor have I seen the Raggedy Rawney. Two genuine British originals who never gave up on trying to make it into the entertainment business and finally started to get noticed when they were well into their thirties. . Both unfortunately no longer with us anymore but they have left behind a great legacy of work.
I never realised what a lovely bloke Ian Dury is. Just the fact that he thinks he's been lucky in his life says so much about his character and decency.
Truly a lovely bloke 🙏
Very talented man backed up by a fantastic band.
Sadly missed.
RIP Ian

I met lan Dury he came to my disabled school several times in South London back in the 1970s what a great man he was one of the best nice one.

Ian, labelled by society as disabled. Labelled by the musical community as a GIANT! X
Add that to his epitaph
yes and by every fan also. because he did it.
Lovely comment!
His music certainly is retarded
@@zeppelinfan82 I can't believe that comment - reported now. 🙏
TWO legends in the same clip. Bless you Bob and Ian! RIP! Wish they were still both around "taking liberties".

Ped Clarke yeah but Hoskins grew up in Hornsey and dury in cranham not in those areas so that’s probably why they got those accents
