Dryer vent installation on a flat roof

It’s one of those installations where there is no where to go but up! This video shows you how a dryer vent was installed vertically through the roof. Here’s the problem. The floor was concrete, on the left there was a bathroom, to the right a hallway and the front wall was a kitchen. There was no access anywhere through the small crawl space. The roof was also a roll down roof. So the only other way was up.

Why you put the dryer vent under the roof sheet and for the pvc vent you just screwed right over it ?
