One of the common things I see in private bomb shelters in dramas/movies is they are cut of from the outside world like no radio nor cellphone signal inside. If I'm going to make a bomb shelter I will include in it a wire that connects to the ouside antenna that can connect to radio/tv broadcast or even the internet to know what was happening outside. At the very least a wired wifi extension modem so everyone inside can still use their phones if ever the electricity and communications outside are still working.
