  • You've probably seen this one when driving from Downpatrick to Newcastle. Still looks great as a family home seventy years after closure, and with many remnants of its past still in situ

I discovered Tullymurry the same way you did - by being driven past it. Very interesting, and many thanks to the owner for letting us see inside.

What a splendid station. Reminds me of Donington on Bain.

i see what you mean - although I actually think that Ballyroney station (which I feature in my Newcastle video) is even more similar.

Great Video-only a couple minutes down the road from me. Planning to try replicate in a Model Railway layout. The section of the Railway Line running beside the nearby blackstaff road is still largely intact including a small girder bridge, albeit very overgrown.

@@trainscranesandtrivialtale7262 two original BCDR gates and their stone posts from an agricultural crossing nearby were relocated several years ago to my garden and my grandparents garden, as the line once ran behind where my house now stands. Nice to be able to preserve a piece of railway heritage, although I personally would have loved them to be in their original spot if the Dundrum railway path was further extended in that direction. also have a rail fastener I found on the line a couple of years ago. I hope one day I’ll be able to clear the overgrowth of the section of line on my land so the line and bridge will be visible once again.

The original Tullymurry station building is still there too! Just about visible from the road. Would love to know where you got the archive photo of the soldiers at the station. The old bridge also still survives, that can be seen quite clearly too from the new road.

Is it? I must have a look at street view. The archive photos are from the British Newspaper Archive. Well worth subscribing

I think the road bridge is still there, it's obscured by hedging in streetview. Seems to form the access to the riding school.

Yeah I think you're right. I spotted this after I made the video. There's an old film about NI's railways on the NI Screen Archive website and there's a shot of the same bridge after the station was closed

Live beside ‘hoity toity’ Carnalea station and have often thought there to be a resemblance.
