Well three more excellent choices! I just found Deanston 12 on offer in Italy 🇮🇹 at 45 euros 💶 with the coupon. I got two 😮kindest regards, S.
I am having one on my shelf which I bought from duty free for 47 euros..it's not a bad price considering the import duty
Holy Trinity. Absolutely fantastic Drams Ralfy. P.S. just bought today KK heavily peated batch 9(90% bourbon/10% sherry) for £48.99 👍😁🥂🙋🏻♂️
3 great good value drams. Glad you had a good time at the festival 🙂
A great selection of peated whiskies ralfy , just recently i was in m&s and their is a kilchoman whisky exclusive to the store called loch gruinart its a bit younger than the other kilchomans but at £35 for a peated unchillftered and natural coloured whisky its a no brainer.
I really like that Ledaig thanks to your past review, it made me learn more about Rioja vine and i enjoy a glass of tempranillo now and then, thanks ralfy.
Wonderful choices and review, thank you! Really appreciate your down-to-earth, honest reviews filled with whisky wisdom 🙂👍
Thanks for the suggestions Ralfy.
ralfy, not a big peathead here but enjoying Lagavulin 16, Ledaig 18, Kilkerran 12 and especially Longrow Red 15 year Pinot Noir. My journey is slow but steady.
me too, i dont prefer NAS whiskies
The clicker clacked?. Machir Bay also from Kilchoman is good too.
LOVE the Sanaig and I definitely have my eyes on the Ledaig. But....good luck finding anything associated with Springbank.
Lovely choices here Ralfy. I tried Ledaig 10 y.o. earlier in the year based on your 2023 version of this video and loved it. I haven't seen the Rioja cask version where I live, but I'll keep a look out for it. Sadly Kilkerran isn't available here either. The Kilchoman is though, and so I will add that to my list. Thanks for the recs Ralfy. Looking forward to more videos like this soon.
Lovely recommendations, Ralfy. Three whiskies, and not an age statement in sight! I love it - we’ve come a long way :)
I've never tasted ' age stmnt. ' 🗒 notes in my entire life 😂❤
Thanks Ralfy!
Kilchoman Sanaig is a lovely dram.
I purchased a bottle after being advised to try this by my local Whisky specialist in Shrewsbury on Saturday.
Then I see this vlog from Ralfy and I totally agree with everything he said about this whisky.
Keep up the great work Dramyster.
Not a dramatic finish but a really funny one !
Very good points about the peat losing its strength over time in the barrel I noticed i like the 8 year old lagavulin better than the 16....and the ardbeg wee beastie 5 year old better than the older age statements...and the laphroaig 10 over the older age statements as well
Great video as always - received a Ledaig 18 this year which I’ve slowly been working my way through; but the more I drink it the more I like it...
I really like listening to your reviews, I am not a spirit drinker.
But your videos are very informative and interesting.
Cheers Ralfy! I bought the Ledaig Rioja cask the other week and can’t stop going back to it whenever I want a wee dram. It is utterly delicious and very moreish.
Cheers Ralfy! Kilkerran purchased for £45 (after a 10% introductory discount) from Still Spirits, Aberdeen. Thanks for the tip!👍🏻
I recently stashed a couple bottles of Kilchoman Sanaig, Ledaig 10yo, Ledaig Rioja and Port Charlotte 10yo, all on sale. You never know the future and now I feel comfortable knowing I will always have a peated banger at hand ;)
I bought Kilkerran cask strength batch 8 some weeks ago and held it on for Christmas, it seems that I made a good choice. Kilchoman Sanaig was a birthday gift and I love it. Today I found Ledaig Rioja for 50£ (it’s a reasonable price for Switzerland), I’m very curious about it.
Thank you Ralfy for your tastings and reviews without the unnecessary blabla like other do. I appreciate your approach to enjoy Spirits.
WISH YOU PEACEFUL FESTIVITIES!
Listening Ralfy is literally therapy, thank you, cheers
Honestly, extra thumbs up for the 'clicker' 😂 So authentic! I love it 👍
Is he using that damn clicker again?
@@ralphwatten2426 i love his clicker! 😁
I was in campbeltown right at the end of lock down when everything was still shut
Can't believe I missed out on some stunning distilleries when I was there.. May need to repeat the 10hr drive and visit again
Been trying to get the kilkerran heavily peated for 3 years now. only offered in lotteries in Quebec and Ontario. bid for it 3 years now in both provinces and havent won the lottery on one yet. Have bought the unpeated kilkerrans off the shelf. Bought the sanaig and ledaig 10 off the shelf as well....havent seen the rioja ledaigs yet.....great selection, and thanks for sharing!
Just bought today KK heavily peated batch 9(90% bourbon/10%sherry) for £48.99. Hope you can find it on the shelves near you 🤞😁🥂🙋🏻♂️
Cant wait for christmas, only cause i have a smoke peat sister who just loves that style. Personally i love all variations of scotch, but i know its our bottle. The others can punt around with their conversation and their tastes, but we will have a real brook of a time enjoying a dark Ardbeg from the vaults!
Just tried Sanaig yesterday - truly great blend of juicy sherry fruits and meaty peat smoke😋
Got the same KK (2x batch 3) imported to the states and it was amazing! I am liking it better than Laphroaig. 2x the normal price for importing, but to me; well worth it.
Bought a Sanaig right before I saw this video, now I really can't wait.
Great review as usual Ralfy! Really enjoying the Kilkerran.
Got Ledaig Sinclair with my friend last week. Can´t wait to have a taste. Must also find the peated Kilkerran and place it next to my 12 year old one :D
The amount I have learnt in such a short space of time from you is insane. I thought my regular 40% blend was the best thing I would ever drink 😂 got a bottle of Kilchoman Sanaig and Ledaig 10yr old on the way with a Laphroaig QC thrown in for good measure 🥃
Ledaig 10's price jump in Chicago is "done & dusted" as you say, Ralfy. Prices at all 3 major retailers went directly from $60 to $80 in one shot. The shift concluded only 2 weeks ago, and I bought 2 backup bottles as I saw it coming. Beautiful juice.
Thank you for the advice, very much appreciated
Having had all of them in 2023, yeah I concur.
I've got and have tasted this Ledaig variety - it's superb! I know Kilchoman make great whiskies - Machir Bay and Sanaig are on my shopping list. Both Ledaig and Kilchoman are fairly priced in Bulgaria, though Ledaig 10YO is more difficult to find. Will be looking forward to see Kilkerran in the online stores. I recently purchased a bottle of Mac Talla Mara cask strength - an excellent young peated whisky. Will be curious what mark it will get if you happen to review it. Anyway, thanks, Ralfy for all those over 1,000 reviews! Have a fantastic and malty 😉 year 2024!
🎉 Love Peace and Harmony 🦄
Really been enjoying Kilchoman Sanaig. Perhaps fortune will bring me to the other two (really been enjoying Kilkerran 12 though!).
Great recommendations Ralfy!
I actually prefer Kilkerran to Springbank….controversial, I know.
Kilchoman Sanaig bough for 60 EUR locally in Poland. Targeted and sunk! as use to say old yellow submarine oldboys. Great affordable whisky! Thanks a lot for your hint!
Adorsed by Springbank!
If the Clivey clicker stops working it means the video will never end. And we will get Ralfy forever. Win Win.
I have a Ledaig 10 on order (great price, still at 41£) and will soon pick up either the Kilchoman or the Raasay (both are equally priced at 53£, kinda high-ish but alright).
I do wonder what you think about Bunnahabhain Moine (the NAS basic one) - here in Sweden it is in fact the cheapest peated Islay and the cheapest peated "integrity malt", period, at £31... (well, right behind Finlaggan 50% at 29£ which I don't consider integrity malt, since it hides what it is)...
Finlaggan CS is Fantastic Dram. Go for it Bunna Moine is nice as well. For thie price both whiskies are absolutely must buy. 👍😁🥂🙋🏻♂️
I'll add Ardbeg An Oa to the list. Probably the friendliest of the Ardbegs, but I always see it discounted for cheaper than the 10, and close to Ledaig prices.
Kilchoman sanaig is my daily drinker, and Leidag 18 is soon in my collection
Kilkerran prices ale rising quickly here in Czech Republic. Heavily Peated costs as much as the other two whiskies combined - on par with Springbank 10.
But is more readily accessible though.
Sad thing is Kilkerran has become almost as hard to find as Springbank itself ,albeit the prices haven't got so extremely through the roof.
Seriously -- I haven't seen a bottle of Kilkerran in over a year.
KK is fairly easily available in the UK, as is Longrow Peated.
Kilkerran and Longrow are about as difficult to find in most parts of the US as Springbank. In fact, I think I've seen Springbank 10 yr more often than any Kilkerrans or Longrows. Springbank 15 is maybe harder to find than a Kilkerran or Lomgrow, and I have never in my life encountered a Springbank 12 in the US.
I was looking forward to the Ledaig Rioja, but when it finally showed up in Chicago area stores, it was priced at $80. That's too rich! So many other good whiskies at that price or less.
Lediag Rioja is under £35 here across the pond. Same can be said with US spirits here, I'm enjoyin an open btl of Willet 4yo Small Batch Straight Rye as my malternative but it cost me £84. A Pikesville 6 is also around the same price.
I tried the Sanaig at a tasting after I had some other peated Whiskys and it gave me a really unpleasant burn at the tip of my tongue which I felt even the next morning. Don't know why, never had it before 🤷🏼♂️
But anyways, love your videos!!
Tried Sanaig at GWF and whilst it was okay there are much better peated options available. Nowhere near as good as Longrow NAS.
Very good choices...
good recommendations.
Great information again, Ralfy! (still slick! lol)
Greeting from Minnesota USA
Kilchoman Sanaig is superb! It has replaced Laphroaig 16 for me, for reasons Ralfy has gone over in the past of which I agree.
Love love love the Sanaig.
I have all 3 and Ralfy is 3 for 3 with these. Cheers!
Mixed Ledaig 10 and the Rioja Cask Finish 1:1. Not bad at all.
I bought the Ledaig Rioja Cask just approaching 2 years ago as my first real peated whisky purchase and loved it. Taking advantage (admittedly rather later than planned) of the ubiquitous Black Friday deals, I've bagged the Ledaig 10 which I know from Ralfy's previous reviews will be a stonker! 😁. That's my personal pressie to me sorted for the festive season along with a bottle of Arran 10......the year end well me thinks 😃😺😺.
Yes, absolutely on The Arran-- I believe Ralfy chose the dram as 🥃 whisky of the year awhile back ❤ 1st time I tried the dram and, also the cask strength 12 is terrific as well- luv those sherry 💣 bombs❤!!
Port Charlotte as well🎂🍪🍩🍭
The ending was subtly comedic. Fantastic 😂
thanks legend
Another old fave, Kilkerran. To think, not so long ago the 12 cost about 30. Now ....? Im not even going to mention The Aultmore 12. (Ouch!) The Sanaig Ive had and I can heartily reccomend., since I cant afford that anymore eithert . The Sinclair series Ledaig is a great dram mind you at a good price.. So im exploring the next tier down now. There are plenty of options if I want to keep my top limit at £40. I have a small stash of my faves Aultmore Kilkerran Deanston 12s from a few years back but im kind of afraid to drink them as I cant replace them. 😆
Maybe you’ll need to praise Lagavulin 16, in order to keep these gems affordable. Catch-22
Have you reviewed the 'White Peak Distillery' yet?
They've just launched a peated bottle recently.
Hi Ralfy, is that Kilkerran very different from the 8 bourbon? Maybe more peated?
If I can buy Kilkerran Heavily Peated or Longrow, both 2023 releases - which will be richer and more complex?
Sidenote, I picked up Port Askaig 8 yrs kind of by accident (didn't know what it was). And it's pretty decent - most likely caol ila, but at an integrity bottling - noncoloured, nonchillfilt, 45.something %. It's pretty nice.
Why do so many scotches, especially integrity releases, actually hide what they are?
You need to try or add lagg kilmory whisky to that list....it's one of the best peated whisky on the market, totally under the radar. Please please try it whisky lovers
As someone raised on a farm, Kilchoman simply taste too “barnyard” musty for me. Not sure where that “cow patty” note comes from but I cannot get past it.
Got a class know, a cheap peated, Macleod's. And it is ok, but for now, i need to know, it is less than more expansive ones. So after this, i do the classic, Laga 16. Let see the difference.
Rioja Cask Finish NAS? I've Tried the 10 & 18 & they are up there with Longrow in my top 5 fave peat bombs. Righto mental note must try this NAS.
I recently got a btl of the Batch 8 Kilkerran HP but MOM wouldnt let me buy 2 in same order & now it's sold out 😭 This is the 1st HP I've been able to get my hands on, should I keep it for the collection or eventually open it when my current open btls are finished? 🤔 1st world problems. 😄
I’ve had the standard Ledaig a few years ago, and it was a pale finish to the big Islays, although maybe that one is better. -Still worth a glass though. I had the basic Kilchman and it was interesting, but not exceptional, and less character driven than one would expect for a start up. I enjoyed Spring-bank 10 a few years back and peatier than expected for a lower peater, that middle whiskey looks interesting. Just bought some Laphroiag 10 for the holidays, hope it’s good still, slainte🎉
🥃
Love the PEAT!!!
What's the Port Charlotte for this year?
The Rioja Cask Ledaig continues to be the greatest dram imo
Sanaig is out of this world
很好的推荐,来至中国的感谢!
Someone knows about Smokehead? Got a rum cask, not opened yet.
What about Meikle toir?
And when i drink a whisky, it is not 15 minutes a class, i take it slow. Sipping style.
What is the relevance of 46.3% ?
I see it a lot... nice round number?
Tax thing?
Add Australia to that list of over the odds cost.
Interesting times: all three - without the age statement. At a time when you can find Ardbeg 10, Port Charlotte 10, Ledaid 10 even cheaper than these three. Does NAS give the producers the freedom to make a better product?
if you find Ledaig 10 at a lower price than the etnry-level Ledaig Sinclair it means that your local market is really upside down. In France the Sinclair is at 45E and the 10 at 60E. As for the Kilkerran, you have a 60% cask strenght version at around 70E. All these price comparisons make no sense as every market is so different. That is why I hate it when reviewers integrate price (their local price) into the marks.
In the country where I live, Kilchoman is significantly more expensive than other young heavily peated, NAS or age-stated options (Ledaig 10, PC 10, Killkerran HP, Ardbeg 10, Longrow etc.) and this gives rise to doubts... Kilchoman only states the ratio of casks to nothing about age at such a high price.
If with Glen Scotia Victoriana we at least assume that it contains older spirits that justify the price, then how is the price of Kilchoman determined and why do we consider it “affordable”?
Spring BANK .....ahhh haa ha Ahhh ha ha cough sprinbreaffffahjh ha ha ...so important ahhh ha ha
😁
Are you sure Kilkerran make unpeated whisky?
Kilchomen and lediag both great value but killkeran double the price of the other 2!!!!
☑️☑️☑️ 😁
I have the Kilchoman and the Ledaig and I love them both. I hope I can get some time soon the Kilkerran, but sadly almost every Campbeltown Whisky -except the ubicuous Glen Scotia- is hard to find as there aren't official imports of them in my country. I recently got a bottle of Kilkerran 12 (I haven't opened it yet) thanks to a fine shop who does a good job bringing good whiskies to Spain , but that's it. Springbank/Longrow/Hazelburn are practically unobtainable here :/
Kilkkerran is priced over £100 plus a bottle.....far much better peated whisky out there at half the price...lagg, port Charlotte etc
I just tried Royal Salute for the first time. Sadly, it was a very disappointing experience. I expected sweetness like the younger Chivas products, but it tasted like mentholated spirits. 😭😡🤬 Possibly a bad batch. Who knows!
Please do not waste your money on chivas , it’s plain and boring
First 😊
I hear peat bogs are disappearing never to return 😮
M
Peat is an excuse for incompetence. A poor quality wooden cask, inferior ingredients, inadequate maturation and a poorly designed pot still can all be hidden under dollops of peat.
The Sanaig is tasteless and hot.🤷♂
