  • Scientists are working diligently to understand the cause of abnormal spinning behavior impacting several fish species in South Florida, including the endangered smalltooth sawfish. Experts have been closely monitoring reports of distressed animals, and for the FIRST time, all conditions were met for Mote Marine Laboratory, in partnership with the FWC, NOAA and others, to attempt a sawfish rescue. The animal is currently in critical condition at Mote's quarantine facility. Please call (844) 4-SAWFISH (844-472-9347) or email sawfish@myfwc.com to report all observations of sawfish. #changingseas #spinningsawfish #smalltoothsawfish
