Thank you Steph for the great in-depth review. I just ordered the Inlet with all the bells and whistles. I fully appreciate how time consuming video editing is. Thank you for taking the time to educate me before I decided to join the ORU cult. 😎
The amount of engineering that goes into something like this...plastics can be used over and over...this is a beautiful example of what can be produced with a little imagination.
Great video. My wife and i got our Inlets for solstice but haven't gotten to use em yet. We already had Beach LT blue graphics (!) version which we love -- and we HIGHLY recommend getting the Oru Float Bags. From Oru's website: "Paddle with confidence in open water! While Oru Kayaks are naturally buoyant and won’t sink even when submerged, float bags keep you afloat and maneuverable if you capsize or take on water. Our custom-shaped float bags fit securely in the bow and stern compartments, and include flexible valve stems for easy inflation." Happy paddling! ☮️🌊 Dory
Hi Steph. I've owned the Oru Inlet Kayak for 1 year now. I found a great way to hang the ors along side the kayak so you don't have to lay them across. Oru wants me to do a "how to" video so watch for it. I used to use a micro fiber towel to wipe it down, Now I use a soft dust pan brush. Wipes everything off and the air dries it before it's back together. I like my seat back high so it doesn't press on my lower back but it slides down. I put a small lock washer behind the knob which helps. It'll be in the video. I live in Ft Lauderdale where there's a lot of lakes and fishing in this Kayak is a dream. Good luck
Thank you so much for this video! I’m moving back home to Alaska and want to start kayaking but didn’t think I’d be able to buy one due to storage in a apt then I discovered foldable kayaks and Oru! I am definitely going to buy one so I can take my cat kayaking in the mornings!
Howdy! Just from my experience with my pack canoe and a recreational hard shelf kayak (just bought the Oru Beach LT now) a higher seat and lighter paddle will be of significant help to your mom. I am a 70 yr old woman, btw…🙂. Planning on 3 days/2 nights on the Suwannee later this month. First excursion with my Oru. 😛
Thanks Kathy! We just got the Oru carbon paddle and Mom loves it. Much happier with the lighter paddle. I also just ordered an extra seat to help elevator her. We are planning a trip to the Suwannee soon too! Let me know how the Oru Beach LT does!
Awesome! Your video put a big smile on me. Good pace, informative, very well done! Congratulations! Now I want an Oru Inlet, too. People say Gorilla tape is good and strong for repair.
Great video. My wife and I just ordered a pair of Oru Inlets. Your tip on packing some duct tape is really good idea. BTW, love your greyhounds checking out the box, awesome dogs.
Hi Steph, I'm seriously considering the Inlet after using a inflatable about 10 times. I'm always way behind my friends trying to catch up. A neighbor said it was the design of the inflatable. You video reviews really hit the mark and made it easier for me to lean toward Oru. I usually kayak on the intercoastal waterway in South Florida. Thanks for a great review!
Very well done and comprehensive. Kudos to mom. Now I just need to bite the bullet and buy one! The price is a concern, but I know I would use this much more than a regular kayak.
Thanks! Yes, the price was a concern for me too, but I have already gotten 8 uses in 3 weeks and plenty more trips planned. It makes kayaking so much more fun and easy.
I'm the guy from your upgrades video. I wanted to see you put yours together to see your seat strap. my orange piece that the seat and backrest attach to, right before the backrest bracket, is a hole with a cord that binds the strap to the orange piece right before the backrest bracket.
Great video. You are a natural. I just bought the Inlet last week and it should arrive tomorrow! So you're happy with the wedge? I looked at that but decided to wait b/c of varied comments. Good thought about the tape. I heard there is a foot rest hack (for better stab.) but I haven't searched it yet. Enjoy. I grew up in FL. A lot of great springs around the central FL area.
Awesome! Let me know what you think when it arrives! Yes, I do like the wedge. But I have seen some more suggestions for seat options on the oru facebook group that might be worth trying out: Sweet Cheeks 200 Black and Purple Foldaway Seat Cushion. Do you have a favorite spring? I'm making lists of all the places I want to kayak now. Starting local, then working my way south.
Thank you for such a great video. Which option did you purchase? Living in South Carolina I am concerned about the oyster beds scratching the bottom of these kayaks. Thoughts?
I have some scratches on the bottom, but that's pretty normal. One is a little deeper from a tree in the water. None of the scratches have punctured the hull. I'm not familiar with kayaking around oyster beds so I can't say how it would do. But I personal am pretty careful with my Oru and try to avoid anything that might scratch it.
I've gone over a few branches cautiously and have not gotten any rips. I have a few scratches on the bottom of the kayak but nothing that has damaged it.
Is it comfortable? I have an eye on the Inlet and the Tomahawk from Aqua Marina. The Inlet seems more convenient and stable, but the Tomahawk more comfortable and better in colder waters?
I think it's very comfortable. It feels like an extension of me when I use it. I find the seat and footrest very comfortable. I have used the Inlet 20 times now, and love it more each time I use it!
Are the edges open or sealed? In other words, is it possible for water to get trapped in those corrugated channels? I'm really thinking about purchasing but worry it would take forever to dry out or start growing stuff if those edges are open and can hold moisture. Thanks!
After use, you want to turn the kayak upside down or stand it up for 10 minutes and if water got in the channels it will drain out. I also take 3 microfiber clothes with me to dry the kayak so when I pack it up there is no water on it. If it gets really dirty, I will unfolded it at home and spray it down with a hose.
I really love it but it's cost over my pay check..🌝🌝... i live in small apartment , small car... and I'm small guy, 🌝... weight is my big problem... this fit me everything but the price..🤷...
This was actually a damn good review. Concise, to the point, no background music, showed everything anyone would want to know but briefly, perfect!

Welcome! Let me know how your first paddle goes!

Excellent review with no Hollywood type production and electro music....much of a relief.
THIS WAS THE BEST REVIEW I'VE SEEN, I FELT LIKE I WAS OWNING IT!!!;)

Great review! I'm waiting for my Beach LT as I type. You make it look super easy, which is exactly what I was hoping for!
Happy paddling!
Awesome! Let me know how you like that one. I have a friend looking to get that model.
@@smkauthor Will do!

Thank you so much! Yes, I actually made my own emergency duct tape small roll and used gorilla tape.

Awesome! You'll love them! Thanks- greyhounds are the best :)
Thanks for the review. I am considering buying this one in the future.

My mom has an inflatable and it's fine, but everyone likes the Oru over the inflatable!

RIGHT???
Thanks for sharing to me on Reddit. This looks exactly like what we are looking for. It will fit into Eddie Vander easily.
You're welcome! Can't wait to see it in some videos :)
Thanks!

@@smkauthor Yes, if i could send you a pic, i would. and really liked your new video

Hey! huge thanks for review!!!
I have a question.
how durable is the material? How easily can a branch pierce it?
My one year later video might help answer that: ruclips.net/video/eztYecW6sBE/видео.html
@@smkauthor thanks!!!
Awesome video 👍🏼 I’m thinking of getting one.

How does it handle rocks or Branches does it rip through

No idea how the inlet is in colder water, I'm in FL and have not had anything close to cold this season.
Are the edges open or sealed? In other words, is it possible for water to get trapped in those corrugated channels?
I'm really thinking about purchasing but worry it would take forever to dry out or start growing stuff if those edges are open and can hold moisture.

I think they sell refurbished versions on Oru Kayak website and sometimes you can find them used on paddling.com classifies.
