My First Year of Competitive Heroscape || Battle Reports and Analysis

  • Well folks, I’m afraid my vanity hath no bounds. Here is a nearly 3-hour long narrated “diary” of sorts chronicling my first year attending and playing in competitive Heroscape tournaments. I got the idea for this video midway through 2023, when I realized a lot of the thought processes that went into deciding my armies for each event, and analyzing their successes and failures after, fell right in line with the other content on this channel. I also thought it would be a good way for me to show what my experience level with Heroscape is, and my success rate in a more competitive environment beyond just “theoryscape” analysis stuff. Finally on a more sentimental note, I wanted to commemorate my first year of Heroscape tournaments in video form as a tribute to the wonderful community that’s taken me in and made all the events I’ve been to so enjoyable and fulfilling. I don’t plan on doing more of these videos, unless there’s significant demand for it. This one took a very long time to make and I don’t want similar videos taking away from this channel’s other established projects. Hopefully this provides a fun few hours of listening material and sparks some thoughts about tournament play or some of the units and builds I talk about here.

    The story of you & your friend both losing your last figure to lava field damage during your first tournament match against each other was epic!

    What a great video! Love your storytelling style. 2023 was also my first full year into Competitive Heroscape, and it was cool to see you had a similar experience with how cool Heroscapers are. Have also been getting into playing online, which is an awesome way to play even more and meet people I would likely never be able to play against in person.

    Loved this video! Please do this annually or however often you can and yes please take notes, loved the battle report aspect. Also having build videos in the future would be great. I learned so much and got so much inspiration from your battle planning going into each tournament. Great stories as well. Keep it up!

    Doggin: I had a lot to learn about competitive tournaments
    Also Doggin: has a competitive record on par with the best in the world
    Great video! Watched every bit of it, my favorite sections were your thoughts around building your armies. Of course we’d all love to see more if you’ve got the bandwidth for it!

    Great video, I always love hearing about battle reports. Im surprised you werent able to make a Dund build work lmao, but lots of cool builds, i was especially surprised on Bol being a big part of it lol. I think its cool that a lot of the tournaments had a couple of different rules/delta points which i think is cool for allowing builds you would not usually see.
    Always glad to see more people playing this game

      Thanks for the comment! Yeah I should've thrown Dünd in there somewhere on my first year, but I just couldn't find a build/format for him. But there's plenty more Dünd on the way on this channel...

    Bol vs Arrow grut comment: Actually due to equality being at the defenders advantage (1 skull vs 1 shield = you defend) a 2v2 has only 44% chances to go through. So odds were not in your favors but I am pretty sure this was still the best play.
    (Also that Mellifera vs Mohican endgame I am pretty sure going on lava was a mistake, but it made for an epic draw!)

    • @doggindays2631
      @doggindays2631  2 месяца назад +1

      You're absolutely right. I made a hasty (and incorrect) assumption when writing that script that because skulls are more likely than shields on a die, that must've meant I had good odds of getting an attack through. But that's not how the probabilities work, as you no doubt know. Your comment actually sent me on a whole investigation to math out why that was the case, so I really appreciate the insight! As you said though, given my options, I also think it was the right call just to send Bol in and hope for the best. Paid off!
      And on Mellifera v Mohican, you may be right there too. I forget the exact circumstances that made me do that. I think I was afraid of an initiative switch in which the Mohican would've survived lava and would get a height attack down on Mellifera, so I wanted to even it out. But...that would leave me at the mercy of 50/50 lava roll anyway, so yeah. Probably an error. But I don't regret it! Was a game my friend Sammy and I still talk about and reference.

    I jumped on for the tier lists and I have enjoyed your newer videos as well! Happy to hear the tournaments went well for you. I'd love to hear more. Where do you find your vc stuff? I haven't really looked into those. You think your store would ever do a tournament that allows Marvel? I have them, but we don't use them and it seems like you guys don't either. I'm hoping to attend my first tournament this year.

      @@Foudzing Indeed! Such was the glyph pool decision. I'd like to know more about why it's so frowned upon in tournament settings (if you know), since I do appreciate how the possibility of a Pit Trap makes one think twice about going for a glyph. But then again, most glyphs are in extremely vulnerable positions already, so any glyph you go for incurs a cost/sacrifice of some kind. But glad it was good for a laugh at least!
