Best thing we ever did was invest in a small freezedryer and work with local producers. We have a close relationship with a small dairy, and another with a small grower. Last season we ended up getting 1000lbs of various produce for $1200. As the produce came in, we processed it and got batches into the freezdryer, some we kept in the freezer for use throughout the winter, everything else in stored away for tough times. All the scraps went to the chickens. Some will say local is more expensive, but if you buy in bulk you can get really good discounts. As for the dairy, we get cream that's close to its expiration date and we freeze it and use it for cooking/baking. The hardest part is the food prep.
Good to hear. I have told small (and large) producers to ship their frozen produce overseas for freeze drying and processing where it’s way more economical. Then import back. I did all the math. 🙏💪
@ArkopiaRUclips excellent idea! Although freezdrying isn't new, it seems to be catching on now that we have smaller units available for home use. The biggest challenge is coming up with the 5 or 6k for the unit. After the third year, I figure we've gotten our money's worth in dried goods. My wife and I manufacture natural skin care products from home, we sell at the farmers markets in the summer. There are now 3 vendors selling freezdried goods. Only 1 is selling actual food, the other 2 sell candy. Props on your set up by the way. You have my dream set up. We're getting close, but land aint cheap in North Shuswap BC. Cheers 🍻
All good stuff. Keep at it. Off the homestead we just do barebones food (eggs, pork, beef) and working on some other little endeavors. And yes, people want freeze dried candy, so give the people what they want I guess. 👌

the volker rule in the late 70's is what quashed the inflation in the early 80's, but, fiat currency was worth a lot more than it is now, plus the debt was manageable, so people never felt it as much as today, inflation has been rampant since 2008 when zero percent interest came on board, interest rates should never have been that low, but as you know in fiat currency, we need consumers be to buy buy buy, if we dont the whole deck of cards crumble, now we are seeing the cards individually falling en masse!!, my rant!!

Ive known that self sufficiency = freedom since the government destroyed me and my husbands business in 2018 (a veteran owned business) over HOMESCHOOLING & have been learning how to homestead ever since. YOU explained more about how the system/govt/economy works in 5 mins than Ive learned throughout my 44 years on this planet. And there are times in which I research obsessively. I have a background in science/premed. Research is a regular part of my life. I have been unable to find a single comprehensive resource that adequately sums up the basics of the economy/govt and how it effects the people. Thats disturbing... Its as if the govt wants to keep the people stupid and dependent... Either that or the govt is stupid ... Prob both. Thanks for all you share, Dean! I appreciate it more than words can say. I heard nothing about supporting the farmers who produce the food? The government cannot produce the food but the government sure can hurt the farmers.
Grew up in the 90s and early 2000s. I find it insane that this is no longer the country I grew up in. It isn't even close. People in my generation have no clue what has even caused this inflation either. Immigration has been out of control. Taxes have been going up like crazy. And the government continues to destroy our standard of living.
I was part of a food bank for 15 years and sat on the board and quit because every time I tried to DISTRIBUTE the food I got big push back. I couldn't understand why we were giving the Hutterites food to make room for a new shipment ... why weren't we distributing the food to who it was intended. So I set up a room for people to help themselves to rather than sending it to the Hutterite's livestock. The bank account was another issue ... padded bank account and all they would talk about is what money making product (term deposit etc) we should invest in. When it was brought up by an outsider that we should be 'buying' food with the donations it was more push back and promises of 'buying' food but it never happened -- just verbal diarrhoea like politicians do.
I’ve been following for a while, seen your videos on Canadian preppers page, and I appreciate this video a lot. I try to educate people about food insecurity here in Canada. Still learning a lot but this is a great video! We use what we have and make it happen to eat healthy. Preserving food is half as important as growing it in Canada. If you’re looking for funding you likely would need to have to start a social enterprise and get investors/loans.

Identify and apply for the grants. You were born here? Guess what, your native to Canada.
Technically I am “aboriginal” by definition as you need to define a timeline and geographic location. ✌️ All this crap is so stupid. 🤪
I love your rants! Wish I could convey my thoughts half as well as you do. Keep it up 👍
The state doesn't doesn't need tax revenue to pay for social projects. It simply prints more currency, ,however when it does print more currency it must create a new tax, tariff, fine, permit etc to try and control inflation.
And then the additional administrative overhead grows the parasitic state even further.
Not saying this is one of the best videos, it is the best video. Loved it, also broke working for the state as I’m forced to put money into retirement. My take home is doo doo love the video!
We are ok in Fort St John. I started watching prepping shows during Covid. Got some really good pointers. Thank you for organizing this.
Dean.... my Dad used to tell me where people can find sympathy- between sh*t and syphilis in the dictionary. Great video and great idea to get real food into the hands of people who need it.
we are from the government and we are here to help. remember that when you need to go into a camp to get food.
out of all of what you said, the one thing stands out, this is just the beginning!!
I like to think I’m pretty intelligent, and I don’t see how to fix it without a lot of pain. ✌️
@@ArkopiaRUclips pain is what has to happen before it will get fixed, the problem is the people dont want the pain, they just want the fix!!
the volker rule in the late 70's is what quashed the inflation in the early 80's, but, fiat currency was worth a lot more than it is now, plus the debt was manageable, so people never felt it as much as today, inflation has been rampant since 2008 when zero percent interest came on board, interest rates should never have been that low, but as you know in fiat currency, we need consumers be to buy buy buy, if we dont the whole deck of cards crumble, now we are seeing the cards individually falling en masse!!, my rant!!
the pain you talk about is higher interest rates!!
Best social support would be to teach these people to grow &process their own food.
Bring in more immigrants and international students.
Right? 🤪 Houses and food will instantly appear.
Politian's talk about how we need common sense, then there is people like this who actually have it and use it.
Scurvey in Prince Albert Saskatchewan. Everyone has gut problems where I am. Apparently, pancreatic cancer will rise. Not enough Doctors. Not enough housing. A lot of children with Autism. I live in northern manitoba community and we lack in many things.
You couldn't be more correct!! Come to America!! We LOVE entrepreneurs and are currently making room for LEGAL, HARD WORKING, SELF-RESPONSIBLE, SELF-ACCOUNTABLE, LOVELY people!!
He is in America -- America is North America, South America, Central America and the West Indies
MW 2: the lands of the western hemisphere including North, Central, and South America and the West Indies
@PR.Hobbit The world refers to the USA as "America"... I'm surprised that you didn't know that. Well, now you do.. 😊
I was surprised when I looked for nutritional value of freeze dried strawberries and did not see vitamin C. I got them anyways and now I am glad I did.
Ya, they took vitamin c and an off, and you have to go through hoops to figure out the extended nutrition charts. ✌️
Great video Dean.
Thank You, I may be from US, but I do agree with your point of view.
“Socialism is great until the money runs out.” Can’t remember who said that, but it is soooo true.
Margaret Thatcher I believe
correct. The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money.
Margaret Thatcher
Excellent talk Dean. It's ok to not be sensitive, we can handle it. Keep it coming, I love your real talk.
Brother, you are such a Saskatchewanian... love it... !! Just as an fyi...as a disabled woman with indigenous roots I couldn't get the grant either... we were too green... LOL
Love the smoothies, green is my favorite. Got the big bags early 👍🌴🤠
Appreciate GREATLY your veiw .. smart young man ... very !
God bless you and your family Dean. We love you and you are a hero in waiting. Best wishes, Roger and Lee, friends and kindred spirits in Oregon, USA.❤
I think all of our countries governments have forgotten how damn dangerous and mad we all our of this crap!
thanks for sharing your wiring/brain with us bro!~ appreciate your vids!~
Good people right there!
P.S. Im an educated 44 year old American woman/teacher/wife/aspiring homesteader/science nerd.
I live in an ADHD house, too. 💕
So great and encouraging for me to hear that. I don’t have all the answers, as nobody does, but my brain doesn’t stop trying to figure it all out. 💪👌
@ArkopiaRUclips Enjoy the adventure! It's all about the journey or so they say. You're on the right path as far as I can tell & helping to light the way for others! That's HUGE. God bless you & your family! #KeepGoing
great content Dean keep it coming
Majority of government money printing goes to the industry military complex
A big chunk for sure. Handouts to other countries too. Just look at government and think “waste” ✌️
Thank you Dean ! I love the smoothies! I’m sharing it with my community!
Csn you share what needs to be added to the smoothie? Yogurt, ice, milk?
5 million additional mouths to feed takes a toll on the food supply.
Should find a way to get vitamin C out to those struggling to eat.
Look at Weimar Germany. We aren't tied to gold anymore so we are going to hyperinflate forever 🎉🎉🎉
I enjoyed watching you on Canadian Prepper
Spot on 👍
I wish I could like this 1000 times.
Excellent smoothies.
I’m laughing and crying at the same time You are a voice of reason.🙏
Forget food banks, certain demographics have been shown to misuse. Find your local church(es) and donate there, they will know who is struggling.
True
I THINK YOU ARE AWESOME ARKOIPA -- LOVE YA CAUSE YOU ARE A REAL CANADIAN -- KINDA HARD TO FIND THEM THESE DAYS... SisterJoy, Toronto, Canada 🥰
I heard nothing about supporting the farmers who produce the food? The government cannot produce the food but the government sure can hurt the farmers.
I spent 430$ each week for buy groceries....is only for 3 people but is hard anyway 😮
stay healthy dean. don't let the endless frustration eat you up.
People wonder why no one wants to have kids anymore in this day and age. This is one of the many reasons.
I’ve tried to log on to your website from Oregon and it’s a no go. Cannot connect. Will keep trying.

Totally agree and the smoothie's are great.
I lived in northern sask for several years. Was mever sure where Pepsi is on the food pyramid?
Grew up in the 90s and early 2000s. I find it insane that this is no longer the country I grew up in. It isn't even close. People in my generation have no clue what has even caused this inflation either. Immigration has been out of control. Taxes have been going up like crazy. And the government continues to destroy our standard of living.
Good for you Dean keep up the great work 👍
I was part of a food bank for 15 years and sat on the board and quit because every time I tried to DISTRIBUTE the food I got big push back.
Thanks for sharing that. All of this is a human nature problem really. I trust very little charitable and non-profits. ✌️
@@ArkopiaRUclips Natural consequences will prevail
Great info
I’ve been following for a while, seen your videos on Canadian preppers page, and I appreciate this video a lot. I try to educate people about food insecurity here in Canada. Still learning a lot but this is a great video! We use what we have and make it happen to eat healthy. Preserving food is half as important as growing it in Canada. If you’re looking for funding you likely would need to have to start a social enterprise and get investors/loans.
thanks i wish people in the east would listen from the north west
