I've read her book ' Psychoanalytic Diagnosis' and it has to be regarded as a classic in the field of psychoanalysis/ psychiatry-wonderful (and I'm not given to idealization of books or their authors but in Nancy McWilliams case I'll make an exception).
Excessively linearizing interpersonal engagement is the issue! The hierarchical dimensionality of nature cannot be ignored particularly when considering the highest levels within a scale where emergence of new influences increasingly effects the outcome in consequential/salient ways.
Its ironic how she says slides makes the audience disconnect with the speaker and that is why she did nor prepare them. And then she reads everything from her paper.
Well, what she said is roughly two things. She said that SHE FELT disconnected when using slides, and that she noticed people would be trying to take notes from the slides etc. So even though she is breaking off eye contact in this format, apparently it does make her feel more connected to her audience (understandably, because they are probably looking more at her and less at slides). Whether it's better is a whole other matter.
