This is incredible. Powerful. I've symbolized the Little Red Riding Hood story of my childhood in my own writings as a concept of what being preyed on feels like. And what also being in a cult made me feel like. Not specifically in the same way horrible way as sexual abuse, but more of the mind melt of how wolves are predators and they have no inclination of the wickedness of what they do. Or what it does to a person to have their mind, body and soul preyed on. Especially for me by the religious or self appointed experts who supposedly have their own reasons I've yet to understand. But its symbolic to feel like the girl on her journey being tricked and tried constantly by something or someone who has no idea the pain they bring. All while they seem to revel in it with that cartoonish joy at the thought of ripping you to pieces. But this post was was brilliant. I really loved it. Told by an unflinching artist. This is a story about men as a group's disengagement with women and children's welfare. In a culture that eroticises abuse of children as barely legal porn, we have to start asking ourselves whether certain male cultural attitudes and the media they are disseminated by produces men that have a psychopathic tendency towards either women or children as a group. Maybe we should start questioning whether a child's right to live is more valuable than a male's right to condition himself into gender or child psychopathy through masturbation and male bonding.
I think you missed the point. Sure, there's a monster involved who killed multiple children and that's inexcusable. If we can change our society so that there are less monsters, I'm all for that. But the point of the story is not simply "don't be a monster". If that was the point, Jamie would have not regrets about the story, because he is not the story's monster. No, the point of the story is that we need to open our eyes to those around us in need, and by our apathy we condemn the innocent to the aforementioned monsters. There will always be monsters - the question is whether the rest of us will care, and by care I mean that we must show it in our actions.
Im afraid that you can kill a child as easily through neglect as through cruelty. Jamie saw a child in a very bad situation and asked himself no questions as to why that child was in that position or what he could do to help. I cannot think of a single woman that would have done the same thing as Jamie, although I know there will be by law of humanity, but I know plenty of men that would, so therefore I do not think that basic indifference to a child's suffering is not a bit monsterish, I think it is a problem with male culture that makes men indifferent to the suffering of women or children around them - as in its not my problem..

In a culture that eroticises abuse of children as barely legal porn, we have to start asking ourselves whether certain male cultural attitudes and the media they are disseminated by produces men that have a psychopathic tendency towards either women or children as a group. Maybe we should start questioning whether a child's right to live is more valuable than a male's right to condition himself into gender or child psychopathy through masturbation and male bonding.
I think you missed the point. Sure, there's a monster involved who killed multiple children and that's inexcusable. If we can change our society so that there are less monsters, I'm all for that. But the point of the story is not simply "don't be a monster". If that was the point, Jamie would have not regrets about the story, because he is not the story's monster. No, the point of the story is that we need to open our eyes to those around us in need, and by our apathy we condemn the innocent to the aforementioned monsters. There will always be monsters - the question is whether the rest of us will care, and by care I mean that we must show it in our actions.
Im afraid that you can kill a child as easily through neglect as through cruelty. Jamie saw a child in a very bad situation and asked himself no questions as to why that child was in that position or what he could do to help. I cannot think of a single woman that would have done the same thing as Jamie, although I know there will be by law of humanity, but I know plenty of men that would, so therefore I do not think that basic indifference to a child's suffering is not a bit monsterish, I think it is a problem with male culture that makes men indifferent to the suffering of women or children around them - as in its not my problem..
oneclick boedicea You can't think of a single woman who would ignore the situation ... how about we pick one, say the girl's own mother? Or Jamie's girlfriend who acted in the same way as Jamie? Or do you somehow think that everyone in the whole apartment complex was male (despite the fact that we know otherwise)? No, it is easy to pin the responsibility on some abstract "other". This is a story meant to challenge the listener (regardless of gender) out of their comfort zone and into a situation where they can actively help those desperately in need.
You need to expose Scientology and ALL it's deceptions! Get the word out so people won't fall for their lies! Go out there and tell their followers the truth! Say EXACTLY what will penetrate their brainwashed minds to cause them to leave. Have vans to take them from their kidnapped environment! They should be able to leave on their own. Otherwise it's illegal detainment!
