@Tommy Vercetti they have wheels of cheese at stores like Kroger and they have "cheese specialists" that cut them open and shave the cheese fresh. Likely some ignorant worker was told to go price the half wheel at $1,000 wholesale and put decimal in wrong place and cashier didnt know any better

Parmesan freezes really well , honestly if I had a hubby that bought home that I would be so damn proud , I'd cut it up into 300g blocks and sell them at $10 each & have enough to go on a holiday 🤣 because that is what it costs!

Why? Parmesan is a exceptionally hardy cheese. Keep it in a cool dry place and it’ll last a decade, maybe two.
