How to: FREE blow off valve/dump valve sounds from your Hyundai engine!

- In this video I'll be showing you how to get the iconic blow off valve / dump valve sound from your turbocharged Hyundai engine. Explained in easy to understand layman's terms.
What you're basically doing is modding your diverter valve to expel the built up pressure from your turbo to vent into the atmosphere rather than recirculate back into the air intake.
This is an easy to do 5 minute modification, that you can do for basically free with no tools required.
The mod should be applicable to all Hyundai T-GDi engines: so the 1.0 T-GDi, 1.4 T-GDi and 1.6 T-GDi.
The car used in this video is my 2023 Hyundai i20 N Line with the 1.0 T-GDi engine.
I've done this mod before on a 1.4 T-GDi equipped 2018 Hyundai i30 and a 2018 1.0 T-GDi Kona, which both used exactly the same method as shown in the video.
The computer will throw NO codes seeing how these cars are equipped with a MAP sensor, so the fuel trims will not be affected here.
I contacted Forge Motorsports to see if there are BOV's available for the 1.0 T-GDi engines, which sadly there aren't.
But! They are coming with a product for these engines later this year. Needless to say I will be buying the BOV as soon as it releases and do a full review and install on this channel. Stay tuned for that.
Excuse my English as it is not my native tongue.
Let me know how the mod goes on your car! Are you happy with the results?

The disappointment when this sounds good with the hood up but once you close the hood it's barely audible.
If you want a proper audible sound and just all the smiles, then get a proper BOV. Not expensive and can usually install yourself. Cheers.

Maybe put a whistle at the ens of that tube 😂
Hahaha. It crossed my mind, I’ve got to admit! Try it! Let me know how it went 🤣

It works exactly the same if you also have the 1.0 T-GDI engine. No engine troubles or errors on the dashboard. The diverter valve that is standard on the car is the actual "release valve". I haven't found any blow off valves compatible with this engine yet. There are options but i don't want to weld stuff. I want to be able to put the car in stock condition fast, if i need to bring it in for maintenance.
whats the pop noise after the air comes out? is that after all the air has released? otherwise great video will def do to my car. Also is there an engine light? does this damage any parts of the car is it safe?
I'm not going to pretend like I know, I've been wondering the same thing. I'm assuming it's a noise coming from the blocked off air vent, that's trying to suck in air, but can't because the rubber cap is blocking it off. That is the main reason you'd want to block it off is to prevent debris and dust getting into your engine.
There is no check engine light when you do this modification since these cars are equipped with a MAP sensor and not an MAF sensor.
This doesn't damage the car, you only unplug a hose and that's about it. If you keep the clip you can easily reattach the hose in it's original position. It will not void warranty seeing as how it's undetectable once reattached.
@@RobVee. thank you. Very professional response, sounds like you know your way around cars well. well deserved subscription
Thank you sir! Much appreciated. Let me know how the mod goes on your vehicle.
To get back to you. I recently put everything back to stock cause I had to go to service. The pop sound is still present. I guess it's something that was there before on the stock setup as well.
did you notice any problem since yet? i wonder how safe it is also with gurantee but it sounds good
No issues whatsoever. When I need to do service on the car I just remove the modification.
if i added something on the end of the open hose with a smaller hole would it drag out the sound for longer?
Possibly, although I wouldn't block off the hose too much as too much back-pressure could cause the vented air to go back into the turbo causing compressor surge, which is likely to reduce your turbocharger's lifespan.
Nice will this work on the dci automatic
Yes but you won't hear any blow off noise between shifts, only when you let off the throttle after boost has been built up.
Hey, does this mod reduce hp due to air not being recirculated?
Recently put everything back to stock (after a whole year) cause I had to go to service the car. No difference to be felt.
Where did you get that cap?
any old hardware store that sells chair leg caps
Is it 1.0 litre engine? How much power does it make?
Only 100 horses. Does pull nicely though I must say I was surprised.
@@RobVee. What is the top speed you achieved?
@@thurulesmy top speed in the 1.0 Hyundai i20 100hp was about 208 km/h
Have never gone over 145 km/h yet. I'm a police officer and don't want to get caught cause the implications for my career would be humongous. Maybe I need to take it to the autobahn or some sort of airport strip once.
@@RobVee.I live in Germany so it’s very practical on the autobahn
I’m pretty sure the pop sound is the valve closing, I could be wrong
Could very well be the truth...

Please nobody do this you will ruin your engine.
Will it actually and just curious, how will it ruin your engine?
No it doesn't lol
It really won’t but it would be best to just upgrade the blow off valve.
I don't see why it will. Ofcourse everything you do to your car is your own responsibility. If you damage something I can't be held accountable :). Ran this "mod" for a whole year straight. No issues. Put it back to stock when I had to go to service this month. No issues found.
