Welcome to our Allotment! We're Emma, Sam & Ted and this is our very first allotment plot in Derbyshire, UK. Subscribe to follow us on our journey and learn as we go!
Jack Frost came to visit the plot, which means a lot of crops had to be taken out to make way for winter brassicas. Onwards and upwards!
Thank you for watching, you da best! 🧡

Me and my partner have just started watching your vlogs (both weekend and allotment), and we really enjoy them. We took on an allotment last year, and you remind us very much of our experiences. You are doing amazingly well, and the plot is really looking great. We are lucky in that we both work in horticulture and have the knowledge, so be very proud of what you have achieved in such a short space of time. Adrian & Charlotte. 😊
Hi Emma,
Plot is looking great. I grew Little Darling and Magia (I think that was the name) water melons for the first time this year. Apparently, the way to tell if they are ripe is when the first tendrils above the fruit goes brown and also the base of the stalk 😊 I inly managed to get three fruit from about six plants 😅 but I will try again next year.
Great video by the way.
It's really kind of you two season your vegetables with garlic for the slugs❤
Yep - they had a wonderful feast 😂🧡
If I'm remembering correctly (and you may already have found this)... your corn will probably take on a nicer yellow tone when you cook it.
I'm not sure how your compost pile is going... but you could try growing squash in that next season... maybe add a bit of horse poop on top and then plant into it?
My understanding of crop rotation (certainly per Mr Dowding)... is if you are adding your compost to feed the soil... you don't need to rotate crops... the only reason it might be important is if you have a pest or problem with a growing spot (say white rot)... otherwise you should be fine.
I think we had a light frost this week... I'm hoping that's the last because the weather otherwise is starting to pick up (I've even sown my saved corn to see if they might come up).
I need to find some of those teddy bear sunflowers... they look lovely!
The frost didn't make it to my back garden, but the recent rain has collapsed about 8 of my 6 foot tomato plants, so I'm making green tomato chutney for the first time :D
I keep looking at the tomato’s left on the plants and the green tomato chutney is looking a lot closer 😂🧡
The frost killed off a lot at our plot in West Berkshire. It’s a very open site, we’re on the edge and surrounded by fields & horses (which is lovely, but the elements aren’t as kind!) Our garden less than a mile away was fine thankfully, otherwise I would’ve lost our Christmas potatoes!
Looking very profesh with your Hori Hori. I’d love to know how you get on with it, I’ve been tempted to treat myself to one ☺️ x
It’s a game changer!!! So good for the clay soil we have 🧡
Don't worry Emma ,I've been growing in my three designated brassica beds for at least six years with no loss of quality 🙂
Oh good to know! 🧡🤞🏻
thans good weekend oogsten in september thans te video Top weekend 👍⛅✔️🥦🌽💐⛈️🌛
Thank you 🐰👨🏻🌾👩🏼🌾🐶
Had a little frost but a few weeks ago. Ru growing winter broad beans? Love the sunflowers 😊
I’ve not grown broad beans because I don’t know if I’ll like the taste haha! 😂🧡
It can b used for green manure and cover crop. Mine got black fly this summer 😮 😊
Fantastisch Good work Emmas you the best te moostuin thans te video Top weekend 🌽🪁👌✅️🪴🥦⚡️⛈️🌬😂
Thank you! 🌻
Planting any garlic this fall? I'm trying some soon
Yeah definitely! We have so much garlic left over from the harvest earlier this year we’ll probably end up planting cloves from there 🤞🏻🧡
love vlogs emma but could you not cheat and give beds a dig just once it will make a lot of difference xx
We’re considering doing a bit of both - our clay soil is so horrible I don’t know if digging in manure or compost will help it out!
How’s the Hori Hori working out?
Honestly amazing!! Should have bought one ages ago! Great for getting through heavy clay soil 👩🏼🌾
