i live on the west coast of florida so we dont get big waves too often. when it is choppy we get more medium sized ones. i have more trouble with them coming from the side and from behind so timing breaths is crucial to avoid drinking a lot of sea water 😀
Getting in is easy. Getting out is hard. As a sea swimmer, I find it challenging at times to get out due to the crashing waves. Best thing is to do is waiting in the area a little behind where the waves break and then wait for currents to relax. In most cases (except stormy and rainy conditions) we get a couple of minutes of calm waves in cycles to get out or watch the beach and see where the waves are mellowing down. Quick tip, don't ever swim near the rocks.
Thank you very much for your beautiful video. In Japan, we have an old swimming style called NUKITE. Keeping our head above the sea water, we swim using both hands, while moving our legs like pressing water. In this style, keeping the head above the water helps us to survive in the sea. In this style, we never put our heads into the water. I have been practicing NUKITE in the sea for many years. If I always look ahead, I have some time to think when a water motorcycle rushes toward me.
I am lifeguard. Is easy to duck the waves, harder is the returning to the shore, when you have the waves behind because they pull you back. It will be interesting to see a tutorial about this.
Yeah exactly, I came trying to learn how to escape that nightmare before running out of energy and drown. So far I've stayed alive by avoiding the ocean.
Man, i was humbled fast in some big waves in california. I am a decent swimmer, pretty good in the water but did not have much experience in the big surf. I got pounded down to the bottom by a big wave breaking over me. If you go in, know what you are doing!
Thanks VERY much for this vid. A group of us swim in the bay (Melbourne, Australia) each morning ~ 1 km. Sometimes it’s almost like a lake (heaven), but often windy and choppy or up to 1.5 m waves. This vid will REALLY help, especially with winter approaching.
Thank you, thank you , thank you! Follow your advice and do it!!!!! A new level of life unlocked for me. Regards from El Salvador, "the "surf city country"
Such a good demonstration at 2:21 I know this takes practice. I did a race in LA where it took me 20 minutes to get pass the waves. There were unusual on that day and life guards where guiding us. One small piece of advise, don’t panic. If possible practice before the race even one day before if you travel from out of town and are not familiar with that type of entrance. I have seen people DNF races because they were not used to the waves and panicked.
So what's the strategy if you end up with a wave that's crested already and the wash is coming at you? There was lots of those waves, but no tips for them.
A little body surfing practice would be highly beneficial for anyone that swims in the ocean. You instinctively learn how deep to duck dive and when to go under a wave.
if i HAD an artificial wave pool id be alright with a few or more people around me. but in the open beach! those waves vary from LARGE too medium or even small... I get way too fearful just LOOKING at them... especially when the seaweed gets caught in the large wave, looks like a sea monster
As really good swimmers, which Orca new model are you now using? I have been using the Orca Equip and really satisfied ( I was a swimmer years ago) I like the natural swimming style but would to move a step forward with a better wetsuit. What could you recommend me? Thx
Yep, they are only 1m, but plenty to show the technique. Nothing changes. And yes, it was a good venue with very clear water to film in. I’m glad you found it helpful
How confident are you with navigating waves in the open water?

I love swimming with waves. It is much more funny than a race like a swimming pool. ☺️
I get unhappy when the waves are this big ruclips.net/video/alC2vKv94GU/видео.html about 7 minutes in... ;-)

Hi
Now we need a video on how to get back to shore quickly in these kind of big breaking waves.

This is awesome. Was practicing open water in Mexico and was on the struggle bus some days. Thank you!
Hope you found it helpful!

Any tips to avoid or reduce dizziness after a swim? Find it a bit scary to be dizzy when you are about to get on a bike doing 40+ km/h
Video request for comparing different bike travel options (various bags vs. transport services). Thanks!
What a great vid. I'm genuinely regretting that my next tri us a late swim!
Thank you for these tips. Just wondering how long shud i duck dive. I might surface to the next wave on my face
An hour is good❤

Yeah seaweed is even more terrifying when it brushes against you

Training for my first triathlon
Mnay Caribbean islands don't have such waves
Come and do the Perranporth extreme surf tri 👌💪
Bournemouth has the same facility…..the English Channel and it’s even warm today
Nice!
I only wade in chest or waist high water due to being unable to combat the waves, hope these tips help
Even then there are scary waves in California 😅
@@hannaandfey the city seems more dangerous than the water
@@nobody.important971 probably but we had no problems
Hi thanks, is this method work in a tsunami wave?
yes
I was wondering the same thing. Swimming towards the wave instead of accepting ones fate on the shore.
I what to surf 🏄♀️
Thankfully where I live on Lake Erie, waves like that mean the swim is cancelled!
You missed a crucial secret that lifesaver sport know using hydrology 😉 and gives you more speed
This terrifies me. I’d be really scared of coming up too early and not quite being the other side.
It goes darker and then when it goes light, the wave has passed.
@@DB-sm2do Ah yes I suppose so. Good point. Thanks!
How to swim through relatively small, man-made waves. Nonetheless, it was helpful.
