    The people complaining about Upscaling and RT improvements, are the same ones complaining about “no generation lead”, all the while complaining “30FPS IS UNACCEPTABLE” lol. You can’t be on the bleeding edge of graphics while keeping 60fps plus on a console, not even a mid generation upgrade will get you there.

    Amd's ray tracing and upscaling hardware will need a much bigger improvement over what's been done in Ps5pro if they want to catch up to Nvidia's rtx 4000 series lineup, nevermind the rtx 5000 series.

      Intel is already doing a better job than AMD is when it comes to catching up their tech, check out the videos of the B580, a $250 GPU, delivering playable and relatively good looking Path Traced Cyberpunk 2077 30 FPS gameplay at 1080p XeSS (much better image quality than FSR). That should scare AMD to death.

      Whether you want it or not, RT is the future of game graphics as we have hit the limit on how lighting works without it. It’s not just for making a game prettier, ray tracing can drastically reduce dev time for game development. Why don’t we go back to cube maps instead of SSR? Why don’t we get back to having no realistic physics? Ray tracing will in the long run simply replace current techniques and you won’t remember this tough transition time anymore.
      The fact that AMD is working to match NVIDIA on RT performance is proof that it is an important technology and not just a trend, otherwise they would save money and focus on rasterization.

    The problem with ps5 pro or rdna 4 is they dont talk about traversal pipeline, they only talk about ray box and triangle.
    Traversal pipeline is important for path tracing and overall ray tracing performance. Nvidia and intel have it since first gen rtx and intel Arc.
    Amd since rdna 2 and 3 only use shaders to replace traversal function. That is why radeon performance when playing path tracing games like minecraft RTX is so bad.

  • @jbway86
    @jbway86 18 дней назад

    Leveraging upscaling technology and the inevitable improvements will leave much headroom for physics and lighting (raytracing). Compromising brute force rendering is a much better solution to recoup performance and resources for elsewhere in game development.

  • @asdf_asdf948
    @asdf_asdf948 18 дней назад +4

    The reason AMD's RT is going to continue to be behind nVidia's is their continued insistence not to separate its functions out into their own dedicated hardware (rt/tensor cores) instead of trying to handle it all in shaders. It's a poor man's approach and will never be as good/performant as the real deal. Stop trying to cheap out on die space and give the consumers what they want, which is performance.

    • @AtomicTreeDude
      @AtomicTreeDude 18 дней назад

      AMD is trying to not have huge die sizes as smaller is more efficient. Eventually AAA games will use more RT than rasterization cores and if you keep them separate you could see regression down the line in non-RT performance. AMD’s choice here could actually put them in a good spot over the next decade.

    Does it scale? That is the major question here.
    If AMD is successful in this approach, their architecture will be much more scalable than Nvidia's in my opinion.

      Trust me bro I hate nvidia for their business practices but they sure know what they are doing with their gpu architecture or if they would have encountered any issue with scaling they would have canned it after rtx 20 series .
      We rely on so many inbuilt accelerators for example video decoder, encoder , nural processor, compressor, decompressor etc so adding accelerators for ray tracing would be obvious choice next any way .

    All this talk about Ray tracing and nearly no one is running around just staring at arbitrary reflections of light in any game. The "fake" reflection techniques were good enough, so much so that you have to deliberately place the exact scene side by side with RT on and off, to even realize there is a difference. If you have to put something directly side to side just to get someone to recognize they are different, youre focusing your attention in the wrong area. Focus on gameplay and the game mechanics, not the stupid reflections that just eat your processing power.

    The fourth generation of HW accelerated RT cards is coming out now, and the vast majority of us still don't care about RT. Like, at all. The only game in which I turn on RT is Cyberpunk 2077, and that's it. In most of the games the implementation is either downright bad or not worth the tradeoff. There's a lot more to ray tracing beyond just pretty reflections though. Better shadows and better ambient lighting/indirect lighting are two really big examples. The same reason people like ray tracing in CP2077 is the same as in a game like Control. Those reflections really do standout, but there's a lot going on that isn't necessarily noticeable unless you're looking for it.

      We had 30 years to perfect rasterized graphics. Obviously, it will take some time for RT to mature. 4th generation is nothing when it comes to technology given how fast it moves.

      hay mas de 500 juegos con ray tracing, y ya es pasado en pc después de seis años, ahora lo que viene es el path tracing, no creo que veáis como se ve el cyberpunk en pc ni en ps6, es mas, con lo que cuesta el pro en un mes tengo una 5070, con mas calidad y tecnologías que no sueña ni ps6

    I don’t really care. I have an Oppo 203 and for HD DVD’s a Toshiba XE1 which is bullet proof pretty much. I still think the German Steel book edition of Terminator 2 on HD DVD is still the best one along with the original series of Star Trek.

    More like experimental custom hardware and software (pssr) from SIE, since AMD is far behind NVIDIA in Ray tracing and AI upscaling technologies, console maker like SONY see the importance of ai tech in future consoles and it push AMD to R&D. And it's hard to switch soc because the backward compatibility and cost, so Intel failed to be part of PS6.
