Well yea I got the car with 160,xxx miles it needed a lot of maintenance which I have been trying to do these past few years. I have fixed a lot of things, but I am just tackling every problem one step at a time.
Dude, I just bought a Del Sol with 240,xxx miles on it, the previous owner took good care of it, and it has none of the issues you stated besides the visors and body flex. Mine is a 97 model, so it doesn't have the extra lights on the front, which I think looks better. Anyways, it really depends on how well it's been maintained over the course of it's life.
Its a 20 plus year old car. Cosmetics will always be a problem unless it is a garage kept car. I have a 93 1.5l great gas saver. A fun car. Will be re doing the suspension. I did nt know that this was sold with a b18 nice.
I love my Del Sol. The trunk is bigger than what you will get in most two seaters and you still have room for stuff behind the seats and you can lock it up. Then if you know enough about the basics of how stuff works on a car it is a car you can easily work on yourself.
Yea the trunk is huge for a 2 seater, and yes these cars are pretty simple to work on. Me and my friends agree that Honda vehicles are like legos for adults.
Sabina Cruz Love my Del Sol 1995 as well and won't be selling it any time soon.Hopefully will meet you on the road sometime! Maybe on Del Sol day :p Cheers
Well then you dont complain about the weight its only 1170kg you complain about the power, but you dont complain about that either because you cant forget the Car is over 20 years old. And if youre telling me a car thats over 20 years old that does 0-100 in 8 seconds is slow youre a dumbass.
@@marcrchtz9024 have you seen most other cars from that era , they performed better ( *cough* cough* Miata ) . and Im not saying its slow or anything , but even the top end si model isn't fast. especially if you get any model besides the si, they are like VW beetle slow. and for a Japanese car in the 90s that has only 2 seats ,it is pretty heavy. I would buy a civic or a Miata any day of the week over this unless I found spanking deal. you sound a bit Honda fanboyish. I would chill out and think rationally.
I own clean 93' with 85k miles. No issues and I love it. I also race it at local autocross events, and take 1st or 2nd place in my class. The body flex is easy and inexpensive to fix. P.S. get rid of that crappy steering wheel, and get a paint job.
I'm actually going to sell my steering wheel a d get a momo monte carlo. I'm also slowly doing body work. Wow 1st and 2nd. That's pretty good for a del sol
I had a 94, and now I have a 97. The 94 was not VTEC, but it was quick enough to be fun, and got 39 mpg. Right after a primo paint job it got stolen and wrecked. The 97 is a different story. For one thing, my 94 did flex, as you say. You could look in the side rearview mirrors and see it. But my 97 is stiff as a board, so either I'm lucky or they did something. It has a 1.8 L. Type R Acura motor (B16CE, if I remember correctly), with limited slip built into the tranny. I also have my hood, roof & headliner, roll bar cover, trunk, and rear facia carbon fiber. I wish I had left the roof stock though, because the carbon fiber isn't much lighter than the stock aluminum roof, and when the top is up (Only when it rains) it squeaks like mad. I swapped out the 97 front bumper for the older style, which I like way more, and it's now wired so they can be on as running lights, independent of the headlights. It's also got a Skunk 2 throttle body and ceramic alloy headers, with stainless steel braided brake lines. I put in excellent coil-overs, and the thing handles great. I've auto-crossed it quite a bit. I never had any trouble with leaks on either car until some tweaker shot a bullet through both my windows (over 900 bucks apiece) and since then the driver's side window doesn't quite seal right, and I lay a towel over the driver's seat when I wash the car. I see you have the cool little JDM interior door handles, with the little map lights. I have those too, and I also luckily acquired a pair of billeted aluminum latches for the roof, to replace the plastic ones. I love my Sol, and hope to keep it for life. When my first one got stolen I just couldn't think of a better car to replace it with!
Good job but I have to say, the title is misleading. Some of these Cons are more accurately described as Cons of owning an OLD Delsol. Meaning they are not design related, example drain holes getting dirty causing leaks, oil seals weeping oil etc. I mean after 25 years etc. you would think it is about time it gave up.
I miss my Del Sol so much. I still hunt for a clean inexpensive one. I didn't have as many leaking problems as you did. I wrecked it shortly before it needed a new clutch.
hello, to stop the squeaks and leaks you need to use the Rubber care treatment "Gummi Pflege". It comes in a tube and costs $8 on Amazon. I use it on my Mazda Miata (14 years old) and I have no leaks. Apply the stuff every 6months and it makes the rubber soft and supple and water tight. Cheers, Rob
Alfredo Robles Your welcome, its great stuff. This stuff lasts me 4 years or so, which makes it very cheap to use. I tend to apply it 3-4 times a year to keep the rubbers super soft. you can also use it on the lower door and trunk seals which helps keep the road noise & water out.
People hated the Del Sol for being heavier than the model it replaced. Little did they know every model that followed was essentially bigger and heavier, making the Del Sol actually light in comparison and just in line with the trend of cars becoming bigger and heavier with each generation.
You know that's true. I didnt even care to think of that. Every model after that did get heavier. It's really just the wheel base of the del sol. That's its limit.
It seems like this car had some pretty spotty engineering, but doesn't every company have like a QC to monitor these small problems. It just seems like a lot of issues were overlooked.
Mine was a B16 when I bought it, but now its a B20, but it's also heavier than yours because I have the Transtop electric roof.... It's an awesome car!
@@ElReySupr3me it's the same here in the UK too, the car's are so rare now that most people have never seen one, I often get a crowd watching when I open or close the roof. I have a video of it on here.
@@ElReySupr3me yeah I had to replace the gears on mine but I did get the car cheaper because the roof didn't work, and the gears are still available from Honda and they're quite cheap too.
I got a corvette with a targa top, its awsome, you got a hardtop when you want and when you want a bit of fresh air while driving on backroads, pull over and remove the roof.
Alfredo Robles nope beacause its a c4 only 230-250hp for 1500 kilos. But i've planned to put a ls1 in it, 100 more hp but same fuel efficiency 8.5l/100km.
Alfredo Robles i got stock exhaust and intake, i wa in a tunel when i came back from work and i swear, it sounds really quiet, i was a bit disapointed. But it was incredibely comfortable on the highway. Not a good city car beacause its wide and the turning radius is like a boeing 747. But for a roadtrip, its comfortable, reliable and people always look at you, but cops dont. And the best, it got pop-up headlights and digital gauges!
Dear Alfredo, the targa chasis is NOT heavy. You wont find a lighter one in the industry! The sqeek can be eliminated with some silicon powder or anything else that let the rubber glide. This helps for the leaks as well - dont ask me why! Yes the front lights are BAD! If your engine is leaking - somebody has "worked" on that section before. My 5 Del Sols never had a leak! Ha and the body flex - does it matter? Does it any harm? Any targa body that not flexes weigths another 200lbs.. Yes the US-visors are strange.. Have a great day! Fix your car or stay a way of Del Sol's. Regards from europe :-)
First of all sure it's a very light chassis, but compared to other Hondas no it is heavy. It's also a 4 banger. It isn't a targa Porsche which is heavier, but also has 6 cylinders. So yes the del sol is heavy compared to other Hondas that people use to race. I was not generalizing how heavy it was among the other community of cars that are targa tops. My car also leaks since I'm sure a majority of its life was outside. Nothing on the surface of our planet can handle outside exposure to the elements so think about that. I also do have leaks due to what you said and its a high mileage b16. Leaks are known to happen to cars with high mileage. Also I do all my own work and I don't take my car to mechanics. That's why I was complaing about it. I do all my own shit and love it since this car is teaching me more than I can ask for. Congratulations on not having leaks someday mine will be like yours. Nah I won't stay away from my del sol either slowly building it, and these things take time. Have a good day from the U.S. in good ol California.
I've got a del sol when I first got it the paint job looked worse then that now 7 years later I still got her still give me a headache every once and awhile but still a great car keep it up man!
They don't weigh too much. They are the sMe weight or nearly the same as the hatches. Only because its a targa and the reinforced targa area made this car heavier. Enjoy rear 93 vtec. The vtec b series models are a dying and rare breed now.
Alittle heavier. Theres trucks that are bigger and dont weight that much. Its a small car thats a two door that weights what a car 2 times bigger with four doors weights.
1. The roof can be tweeked to not squeek anymore. 2. You already have 2nd gen seals, teak your windows for the car to not leak. 3. For the trunk leak, remove your sail panels and put silicon on the bottom clip hollding it on 4. Never had engine leaks on mine ^^ 5. For the trunk release, get a Transtop 6 The whole chassis is the same as the eg 7. go visit my channel: ruclips.net/channel/UCrEIu22Wi9DxuSMbEPBqT8Q
Look who it is Nathan! the guy with the baddest UK del sol! 1. I believe you mean tweaking as in making the roof grab tighter correct? I have seen that done online, but too lazy I am only stating what del sols do over longevity since this is a old chassis. 2. Trunk leak I repaired ; stated that in my video what I did 3.my engine has almost 200,000 so leaks are expected; maintenance is needed. 4. transtops were not released in the USA 5.This chassis is the same for a eg, and dc 6. My seals are not second gen these seals were and are known to leak for a 1994 del sol. 2nd gen del sol were the del sol with the dolphin nose bumper, and those had better seals that over longevity either do not leak or leak due to them being weathered down.
I agree about the squeaky targa top. it isn't noticeable on the highway, but in the city... omg. I agree so much about the sun visors too. Why was the US given those baby sun visors? I wish Honda had given them more interior light, a warning chime for headlights when you open your door(I killed my battery), and given the US the option of the electric targa top.
Maybe because statistically Americans are taller than Japanese people idk; that mat be the reason to them adding smaller visors. I installed the interior door lights and they add so much brightness; I recommend getting them. They are called jdm del sol maplights.
bhandersen2 Nevermind. Not sure what I was saying there. I installed a new lever and cable from an eg5 lol Mine had only the gas tank door lever so I converted it.. Mine is also an 1992 EDM EH6 ..
Con about cars that are good on gas.seems like they put smaller has tanks on most that are good on gas so your at the pump just as often as with cars that get 20 to 28 miles per gallon with larger tanks
nice del sol and those rims are sick! i wish i had the B16 in mine. Do the mechanics first let the paint for last. put some WD40 with the needle cap inside the key wholes. just a click! cheap and you re gona feel the diference. i do it yesterday and they feel brand new. cheers mate
jose jalapenho thanks for the love Jose! I also got lucky getting these rims got them really cheap for being sprint harts. I'm going to try that wd40 trick never heard about that thank you. You should get a b16=)
First car was a 97 delsol si. It didnt handle for crap and was slow but i loved it still. I also had a 95 hatch with a manual rack but it had ac. It was the funnest car ever.
Hey man cool video. I'm planning to buy one my self I live in the California area to maybe we could go to a car meet or something. I would like to be around more del sol owners to learn more.
the glass aux and headlights do not meet dot requirements so you wan thank the government for that. also the VTEC seal is cheap and easy to replace. The seals that leak the grease from honda does help a lot with that too. check craigslist and facebook, tons of people are parting out Sol's
onyxreddragon yea I know they don't, but I still upgraded my aux lights, and yea many seals are easy to replace and others require more mechanical knowledge to reach.
I'm actually planning on rebuilding the b16 so it can handle a turbo for many years to come. As far as the flexing im going to just get a roll bar, and an X bar possibly only cooncern is safety with the x bar.
@@ElReySupr3me I got my extra top from a junk yard and I have to make my own x cause I just cant find one to buy. So far my del sol is only a $300 investment. That's the car(its in great shape d series tho. And I got it with a bad timing belt), motor(k24a1) I'm looking for a transmission now. I hope you get it the way you want yours. Good luck
i have a 98 del sol motegi. it doesn't have the trunk release, nor the option to put it in because the plastic just ends after the gas cap opener. have to turn the car off,get out with the keys and open it by hand every time. another negative point that you could add is that theys love to rust above the rear wheels. other than that there's plenty more things like excellent visability that make me love my sol. i never want to sell it and it's been with me ever since i was 17(i'm 24 now,so 7 years). almost a decade in my first car and i fell in love with it! crash free, too!
RapiDEraZeR Mine did not have it either, but I welded it in the appropriate spot. Well all Honda cars rust in that area, but mine is a California car so we virtually see no rust here. Your car is a Motegi so it's the rarer del sol only released in the UK so that explains the rust. I also agree visibility is great and even better with a bigger rear view mirror. Keep your Motegi it's so rare and beautiful.
Alfredo Robles yeah,i'm from germany and the weather here isn't exactly the friendliest and rust is an issue. i'll definitely keep it and if something terrible happens,i'll park it in a garage, get another car in the meanwhile and bring it back to life later. no selling, just love. peace
RapiDEraZeR I hope you do if I could I would get the Motegi, but importing and finding one is so pricy lol. U have a del sol that is the needle in the haystack.
Alfredo Robles most well maintained motegi's here cost mostly around 5,000-8,000€. you can always get higher or lower priced ones. i got mine for 4,600€ from a car dealership and it was 2nd hand + a garage car(which it still is). regular del sol's go anywhere from 500-15,000+ depending on what has been done to the car but there's plenty offers on online websites. it's still pretty rare to see one on the street and i freak out every time i see one.
Alfredo Robles I have no idea :/ It's not a VTEC but it's not slow by any means and get more than 30mpg and above 35mpg on freeway. people talk about how del Sol sucks compared to create but del sols body is much more aerodynamic. the front of a few is almost box like with a straight incline. the del Sol body is smooth and tappers like an arrow head even though the bumper doesn't come to a point and the front windshield has a gradual recline that also tappers in. yes weight is very important, but how efficient your vehicle's moves though air might be more important, especially at high speeds.
It's fun, man. I love it. no boost yet, but I'd like to! I didn't build it so much for racing as much as just to have a more powerful every day driver. although the skunk2 stage 2 cams and titanium valves work wonders!
Alexander Smith just stop; your car just keeps sounding more and more amazing lol. That's exactly what I want as well a powerful daily. Only because sometimes that extra hp and torque makes life more better haha.
Nice video. Do you still have your del sol? Do you know what would be the first places to look with front aux lights that don't come on? Bulbs? I got my del sol back late this spring, not knowing much of anything about its history.
Yes I still got my baby. Yea if you want front aux it depends what u want. The usdm aux or edm. Edm is glass and it uses the h4 bulb. The usdm one is plastic and it uses a small bulb that I can't remember. The output on the usdm one sucks tho which is why I opted for the h4 edm glass aux lights. I got most of my stuff on Ebay, and the bulbs u can order online. What year is your del sol?
I have an EDM Del Sol (I live in Portugal) and I don’t think the car is slow, it goes side to side with an Audi A4 3.2 V6 with 265 hp, I mean that’s pretty good
That Audi must have something fucked up ahaha. Or else you got some sort of upgrades because this thing is slow af to me. I got the b16 del slow and yea it's slow to me.
so i live in VA and i have to say i don't have as much of an issue with seals and stuff drying out but they do deteriorate, im lucky to only have one of the common leaks and i was able to get my rear rails off without braking them but i do have another problem, the seal on my rear window is bad so water gets trapped in the rear window housing and there is no where for it to go.It is incredibly annoying to hear water sloshing around and there really isnt much you can do without tearing the whole back end apart. otherwise with the b16a swap i did and other supporting mods, the car is enjoyable and surprisingly roomy for a two door that's not a hatch or coupe. i'm 6'5 and i dont have to much of an issue driving it
Tavikthetank that's great! I wish my seals were as good as yours, and to the water sloshing on teamsolcal someone posted how to stop that water from going in there. Pretty much your drain is clogged so hopefully you find it on teamsolcal; if not I'll probably look for it and post it for you.
Tavikthetank The car is reasonably big my friend who is 7"0 tall fit inside the passenger side and I was amazed. Also it's great that you have a b16 in the del sol. You can really feel the difference compared to a single cam.
Alfredo Robles absolutely, the b16 is a very capable motor and I enjoy it a lot and you hit the nail on the head with the mention that parts from this car and others all fit together. I commonly refer to hondas as adult legos XD also where did you purchase the rear plate with the euro light and the visors?
Alfredo Robles that would be awesome, I've taken it apart once but it was a very big pain in the ass, I must have missed the drains when I did it because it filled right back up
couple of questions breaux 1where did you import the rear/front fog lights from? 2 when you pull the targa sils/sails( not sure of the term) are they just little plastic rivets that hold them in?
In this video I did not have front fogs, but I am assuming the edm aux lights. For the edm aux lights I purchased them on ebay, and the rear was also purchased on ebay. Also the sails I found a guy online who had steps to remove it. Just google "how to remove honda del sol sails" its a tutorial of a red del sol. I guarantee you will break the fragile plastic tabs. They are brittle after 20 years sadly. Its a easy job nonetheless though. Im at work so i cannot forward u links at the moment.
I have a 1993 Honda Del Sol and every once and a while the brakes fail. I've taken it to Honda and they say there's nothing wrong with my brakes but Damn....the pedal goes down to the floor like there's air in the line...or a leak
molly gonzalez I would recommend to replace all your lines. Once that is done do a proper bleed. It could also be your master brake cylinder Even the metal lines under the car. Safety is a must for your life. I'm surprised honda didn't find out the issue.
For the trunk you need to remove your targa sails and seal the gaskets. I used black chalk as sealant and it worked. I never had the issue inside, but from what I know you need to remove your rear cargo containers. From there I do not know what to do.
Giannis Ioannidis well usdm are like mine. Japan and other countries had a higher end model that had a automatic targa top that came off with a flick of a switch. It was an option there, not in the good ol USA.
Leaking from the targa seals? To be honest you cant do much about that except get new seals there. I would just go to a junk yard and look for better seals since weatherstripping can't be found brand new anymore unless you got major money to spend.
Alfredo Robles okay. Yeah I was thinking of going to the junk yard to get new panels. It needs a lot of work. But I’ll def look for better seals. It’s around the windows it’s lose and same around the trunk and too
Hey man, I know this video is old so hoping you see this. But the water in your trunk before you fixed it...was it on the bottom or was it exclusively condensation on the underside of the trunk itself? Thanks
What's up Ryan, and after excessive fluid was inside it piled up in the bottom depending on the severity of fluids. Condensation occured when it would dry up inside the trunk. I would reccomend to fix yours asap if its occurring. Also, it can be rear tail light gaskets that can cause it, and that is due to age of the material. If you have anymore questions lmk.
@@ElReySupr3me really appreciate the response man. Mine has been wet on and off since June but it doesn't start until I left a case of water in the trunk that was already filled with condensation. I left the car in a heated garage with all the liners out of the trunk and the trunk open for 2 days. I'm gonna wait and see what happens next but I have heard about the taillights gaskets. So that's my next move. Thanks again
Ace ひ honestly any car is good for a high school student. yet in a standpoint for your age I would say no since you can't really do too much crazy stuff in Hondas compared to rws v8s. So a Honda would be a optimal vehicle for safety and gas.
Alfredo Robles yea...my dad is obsessed with anything Honda made...I really want a del sol as my first car though...we live in Atlanta though and it's only two for sale in the whole state
i love your del sol!!! Hey you mentioned that the three plastic especially the one with the overhead brake light are very delicate.. If i were to send to a body shop do you think they would break the plastic trim?
I broke all mine, but fixed it with gorilla glue and it actually worked so I am sure they will fix it. I had a friend who owned a del sol and the body shop did not even remove the sail panels haha. So hopefully your body shop does!
Thats a good car i had it 2 years ago w the dame km but there was to much water inside but no rust anywhere Sold it snd bought the car on the pic,a 92 primera w 53000km 😉
its funny im not that far from Stockton... im about an hour and a half from stockton. Ive gone through 3 del sols over the last 8 years... I'm still on my third one and it's the only one I've ever owned with a b16... the last two where d16... ive been considering of sell it because I'm starting to feel like I've out grown it... but I also feel like if I do sell it, I will regret it in the future... have u ever considered of selling yours and how long have you had it?
alfredochavez1906984 Nice! U have had a lot of del sols. Also I have considered it, but I have invested so much into my sol that I can't let it go. Too many nights, Knicks, cuts, and anger has gone into my car. I would deeply regret selling my car. It also won't sell much since it's at 200,xxx miles. You should list pros and cons for keeping yours sol.
@4:50 No fog in the USA. :D I'd rather say that only the real Honda CRX like the Honda CRX Del Sol got fog lights and this is not a "real" CRX, so it has not fog lights installed by default. It fits, so the hollows don't care. ;)
I was actually showing the Aux lights which every del sol has from 93-95 all over the world. In Europe these aux lights are made of glass due to that country needing brighter lights from a higher chance of fog in those countries.
Unless you are talking about the hole I have underneath than that is made for the fog lights, and they were not available here in the USA as an option I believe don't quote me on that.
One of my best buds is 7'0, but he was uncomfortable in the passenger seat haha although tbh I would say you should sit in it and see if you fit comfortably.
Michael Nelson it's what the poor kids are doing. I am just a full time student at a University and working part time. So using expenses to change the aesthetic of my vehicle are currently not a priority. This is my last semester so after this I can begin to do bug changes to the vehicle.
Lol yea I am from the 209, but I keep my car garaged. Their are too many thieves in Stockton, and I don't want to go to jail over my car lol #glockteam haha
To be honest I do not know. You will have to check and see if it has clearance coming out of the area passing the security door. Just research if people have done that. I never researched that myself for this car.
flowerboy fanboy what is easily repairable? The car itself? Yea it's the same as a civic. This del sol is based on the honda civic EG chassis so it's the same when it comes to everything except exterior, and some interior parts.
Hopefully they have it, as del sol parts are now getting hard to find bro. If they do not have the part use black chalk (clay like) to fill the surrounding area with a clay gasket.
@@ElReySupr3me I took the old ones out and put dumb dumb around them and snapped them back in and that worked for a while but now it's wet again from in same area. Thanks for the info.
Well to be honest I would get the prelude since it has the h22 motor, and that's a 205hp motor. The esi del sol only has the single cam vtec motor, which is slow. Although, it also depends on the condition of the cars. Are they both in good condition?
Jose i thought u meant targa top leaks due to the year you introduced. Trunks just depends if items builds up in the tubes to expel water. Also if the seals in the clips go bad. Mine were crusty thus it leaked.
Well mine is a b16, and it does not haul ass too much. A b18 would only be like 15 more hp don't quote me on that though. 15 more hp isnt much, but a fully built b16 or b18 will haul ass with a good tune as well. If you really want to haul ass than I suggest going K!
Papa John they are Honda s2000 seats. I bought them from a person that had a add on Craigslist. To allow these seats to work in a del sol or other models that are not s2000s you need to do a pan swap.
Corynn Ferrell hey what's up bro; I actually found my s2000 seats on Craigslist for a low price. typically for a set of s2000 seats u can buy them for 400-800 dollars depending on the color and condition. I say color since some color ways of the leather are more rare, and condition since some are worn and others are not. I bought mine for 350 or 400 can't remember. I got mine for a good deal since my driver side has a 2 inch tear. Goodluck finding some! Also if you get them look up how to pan swap your rails to s2k seats.
well dude the stuff you mentioned as cons are existant because of the fact that car is 25 years old :) U should drive an old mustang you can feel the ass of the car twisting like 90 degrees. I bet it was a kickass car when it was first released
I have driven an old mustang. My dad owned a 1966 289 mustang for almost 30 years. I would take it out as a teenager and slide it around corners. It definitely twisted in the rear especially with my 2 buddies in the back seat haha. No car is perfect though.
Alex Salazar I don't power lift to lift a single workout once, but I try to consecutively lift heavy weight. I never tried power lifting. do you power lift sir?
would like nice af w fresh paint job. but at least u can drive ur sol. mines broken and just sitting and taking up space in my garage. #rustyeastcoastprobs
Thank you appreciate it! Well I hope you fix your del sol soon. I recommend teamsolcal.com their are many nice individuals their that will help you with advice on anything on the chasis.
Wow thanks for awesome quick reply i know this video is close to 2 years old! looking at a 93 for a gas car and eventually to build it up and loved your wheel and knob!
pivotchocolate not a problem and a 93 is great to build up on. People usually swap the 93 dash onto del sols since it didn't have air bags. The 93 dash looks cleaner due to it not having the bubble for the air bag. Also thank you and goodluck on your build.
Hey man so I ended up with buying a 93 Del Sol and am having some leaking how do I re-seal that targatop? or should I just try to find a new model targatop and replace mine?
Video should be called "How to make your Del Sol not leak".
Good info, dude!
seems to me alot of your issues are related to poor maintenance.
Well yea I got the car with 160,xxx miles it needed a lot of maintenance which I have been trying to do these past few years. I have fixed a lot of things, but I am just tackling every problem one step at a time.
Alfredo Robles JUST BOUGHT A DEL SOL BRO THINKING OF DOING A VIDEO ON IT CAUSE I HAVE A BOXING 🥊 CHANNEL

That's pretty good for a del sol

you can fix the leaking by adjusting the door, once the door sags it starts leaking. take out the bolts on the side and you can readjust it!
I'll try that out once I get new doors. Thank you!
@@ElReySupr3me no worries mate, it's like your doors on your kitchen cabinets they have to hang straight!
Just picked up a 97 del sol, love it so far.
When my first one got stolen I just couldn't think of a better car to replace it with!
shinetsu grease. honda dealerships sell it. its expensive as hell and yes it does make the squeaks go away
Silicone paste works too
Good job but I have to say, the title is misleading. Some of these Cons are more accurately described as Cons of owning an OLD Delsol. Meaning they are not design related, example drain holes getting dirty causing leaks, oil seals weeping oil etc. I mean after 25 years etc. you would think it is about time it gave up.
crxdelsolsir you are correct sir. Just need to rebuild this motor to have it running like the day it came out the line.
I miss my Del Sol so much. I still hunt for a clean inexpensive one. I didn't have as many leaking problems as you did. I wrecked it shortly before it needed a new clutch.
Thank you for posting this video. it gave insight on what to look for when I purchase me a Del Sol when I get the chance.
Shombie Dixon your welcome. if you have any questions than just ask away. Happy new year!
Alfredo Robles thankyou Happy 2017🎇🎆🎇🎆🎇🎉🎉🎉
Shombie Dixon happy 2017!
hello, to stop the squeaks and leaks you need to use the Rubber care treatment "Gummi Pflege". It comes in a tube and costs $8 on Amazon. I use it on my Mazda Miata (14 years old) and I have no leaks. Apply the stuff every 6months and it makes the rubber soft and supple and water tight. Cheers, Rob
golders99 thank you Rob! I'll check it out.
Alfredo Robles Your welcome, its great stuff. This stuff lasts me 4 years or so, which makes it very cheap to use. I tend to apply it 3-4 times a year to keep the rubbers super soft. you can also use it on the lower door and trunk seals which helps keep the road noise & water out.
golders99 cheaper than shin etsu Lol!
2400lbs? That's light as fuck bro.
I have a del sol and I agree with what you said
lol thank you! It's true info haha
What's the price range and miles etc on how much I should spend depending on the miles
I love my Del Sol! just sealed up my trunk last weekend! no more water
Ronco160 Nice it's a great feeling have and to lose that nasty old water smell.
It seems like this car had some pretty spotty engineering, but doesn't every company have like a QC to monitor these small problems. It just seems like a lot of issues were overlooked.
I had a 97 Del Sol 5 speed manual and had no issues. I wish I would have kepted it
parts are hard to find your right thank god i got my del sol shell with every oem part on it
O yea; the jdm and edm parts are even harder to find.
300lbs makes a difference when people try to overpower fwd platforms. A reason why I love the del sol.
jd12680 true it helps the front wheels stay planted better.
Weight capacity on this car is 400lbs 😆
Mine was a B16 when I bought it, but now its a B20, but it's also heavier than yours because I have the Transtop electric roof.... It's an awesome car!
Agh yea definitely heavier, but people here in the states go wild for the transtop!

Cebastien Larochelle o yea! it's the best having a targa top! Especially your corvette since it's a hell of a lot faster and sounds better.
Alfredo Robles nope beacause its a c4 only 230-250hp for 1500 kilos. But i've planned to put a ls1 in it, 100 more hp but same fuel efficiency 8.5l/100km.
Cebastien Larochelle hey I only have 160 hp in a 4 cylinder. You still have a v8 haha. Sounds way better than mine. A ls1 would be amazing in your c4.
I think weight is 2300lbs I'm a trucker and might buy a 93 with vtec and for sure I'd go to a truck stop and scale and get weight balance
They don't weigh too much. They are the sMe weight or nearly the same as the hatches. Only because its a targa and the reinforced targa area made this car heavier.
Enjoy rear 93 vtec. The vtec b series models are a dying and rare breed now.
@@ElReySupr3me thanks for reply it's a 94 vtec I'm trying to decide an mr2 or the del sol and if I buy the Honda I'm buying some 9lb 15" Enkeis RPF1s

1. The roof can be tweeked to not squeek anymore.
2. You already have 2nd gen seals, teak your windows for the car to not leak.
3. For the trunk leak, remove your sail panels and put silicon on the bottom clip hollding it on
4. Never had engine leaks on mine ^^
5. For the trunk release, get a Transtop

Look who it is Nathan! the guy with the baddest UK del sol!
1. I believe you mean tweaking as in making the roof grab tighter correct? I have seen that done online, but too lazy I am only stating what del sols do over longevity since this is a old chassis.
2. Trunk leak I repaired ; stated that in my video what I did
3.my engine has almost 200,000 so leaks are expected; maintenance is needed.
4. transtops were not released in the USA
5.This chassis is the same for a eg, and dc
6. My seals are not second gen these seals were and are known to leak for a 1994 del sol. 2nd gen del sol were the del sol with the dolphin nose bumper, and those had better seals that over longevity either do not leak or leak due to them being weathered down.
Alfredo Robles
I'm from France :)
You have second gen seals trust me, they've been changed before :)
I changed them myself, but before they were 1st gen. I got these seals from a 96 del sol.
Well whatever lol your from that side of the world haha.
Alfredo Robles yeah second gen has the lip you showed in the video
Can't wait for paint you have some cool parts :)
I own a 92 Del Sol (D16, EH6) and it comes with both the gas tank door and trunk levers .. Not sure about the "95 and up"

savagepatchkidz im down bro. What city in Cali are you from?
the glass aux and headlights do not meet dot requirements so you wan thank the government for that. also the VTEC seal is cheap and easy to replace. The seals that leak the grease from honda does help a lot with that too. check craigslist and facebook, tons of people are parting out Sol's
onyxreddragon yea I know they don't, but I still upgraded my aux lights, and yea many seals are easy to replace and others require more mechanical knowledge to reach.
onyxreddragon so many sols here in California. thank you though for the intel!
If you still have it k swap it. And for the flex. Go to the junk yard and get a top. Cut out the middle of it. X it and no flex and still an open top.

another negative point that you could add is that theys love to rust above the rear wheels. other than that there's plenty more things like excellent visability that make me love my sol. i never want to sell it and it's been with me ever since i was 17(i'm 24 now,so 7 years). almost a decade in my first car and i fell in love with it! crash free, too!
RapiDEraZeR m
RapiDEraZeR Mine did not have it either, but I welded it in the appropriate spot. Well all Honda cars rust in that area, but mine is a California car so we virtually see no rust here. Your car is a Motegi so it's the rarer del sol only released in the UK so that explains the rust. I also agree visibility is great and even better with a bigger rear view mirror.
Keep your Motegi it's so rare and beautiful.
Alfredo Robles
yeah,i'm from germany and the weather here isn't exactly the friendliest and rust is an issue. i'll definitely keep it and if something terrible happens,i'll park it in a garage, get another car in the meanwhile and bring it back to life later. no selling, just love. peace
RapiDEraZeR I hope you do if I could I would get the Motegi, but importing and finding one is so pricy lol. U have a del sol that is the needle in the haystack.
Alfredo Robles
most well maintained motegi's here cost mostly around 5,000-8,000€. you can always get higher or lower priced ones. i got mine for 4,600€ from a car dealership and it was 2nd hand + a garage car(which it still is). regular del sol's go anywhere from 500-15,000+ depending on what has been done to the car but there's plenty offers on online websites. it's still pretty rare to see one on the street and i freak out every time i see one.
Just bought a del Sol today and I also live in Stockton
James Jacobs Dude nice. Which model did you get?
Alfredo Robles I have no idea :/ It's not a VTEC but it's not slow by any means and get more than 30mpg and above 35mpg on freeway. people talk about how del Sol sucks compared to create but del sols body is much more aerodynamic. the front of a few is almost box like with a straight incline. the del Sol body is smooth and tappers like an arrow head even though the bumper doesn't come to a point and the front windshield has a gradual recline that also tappers in. yes weight is very important, but how efficient your vehicle's moves though air might be more important, especially at high speeds.
James Jacobs your totally correct! And u can tell what model u have by looking at the chassis code in your firewall
Thanx for the info!
Ummm why was this vid made? There is no cons to the sol?!
Because nothing is perfect
My del sol is perfect. No squeeks. This chassis isnt even heavy...2300 lbs is light af dude my friends golf gti weighs 1000 lbs more.

Alfredo Robles both of them stock in good condition, I don’t know if there’s any diference between the Edm B16 and the Usdm, my B16a2 has 160hp
so i live in VA and i have to say i don't have as much of an issue with seals and stuff drying out but they do deteriorate, im lucky to only have one of the common leaks and i was able to get my rear rails off without braking them but i do have another problem, the seal on my rear window is bad so water gets trapped in the rear window housing and there is no where for it to go.It is incredibly annoying to hear water sloshing around and there really isnt much you can do without tearing the whole back end apart. otherwise with the b16a swap i did and other supporting mods, the car is enjoyable and surprisingly roomy for a two door that's not a hatch or coupe. i'm 6'5 and i dont have to much of an issue driving it
Tavikthetank that's great!

I hope this helps!
Its slow and you cant see anything if you wonna see to the left before overtaking to see an other passing car
couple of questions breaux
1where did you import the rear/front fog lights from?

Do u know how to fix the trunk mine don’t open up with the latch
Sounds like the latch or the wore is messed up. If the latch is pulling then thats fine. Then just follow up the cord and see if it's damaged.
You keep using that word "considerate". I do not think it means what you think it means.
I am because what I am saying is that Honda was "considerate" enough to add the things they added onto the del sol for accommodation.
how do you adjust your window to make it stop leaking??
Malik_EG1 Well I have not attempted it, but I believe there is a guy on RUclips who actually teaches you how to do it step by step!
+Alfredo Robles sealant
I had water in between the trunk and the back window
For the trunk you need to remove your targa sails and seal the gaskets. I used black chalk as sealant and it worked. I never had the issue inside, but from what I know you need to remove your rear cargo containers. From there I do not know what to do.
Also when you remove the sail panels clean out the 2 drain holes. There is one on each side of the car. U see then when you remove the sail panels.

This will fix your trunk leak for sure. Scroll until u see him in the trunk. This is the guide I used.
Alfredo Robles ok thank you
Alfredo Robles I brought it from a guy that changed everything and I’m having electrical problems
Aren't all Del Sol have the rooftop mechanism ?
Giannis Ioannidis well usdm are like mine. Japan and other countries had a higher end model that had a automatic targa top that came off with a flick of a switch. It was an option there, not in the good ol USA.
I just got my 95 del sol and it’s leakin pretty bad. What did you use to stop or lessen it???
Leaking from the targa seals? To be honest you cant do much about that except get new seals there. I would just go to a junk yard and look for better seals since weatherstripping can't be found brand new anymore unless you got major money to spend.
I have seen ppl tighten the targa some how, but I never done that.
So that's my next move. Thanks again

hondapartsnow.com is a good website for oem legit parts at good prices.
Do you think it would be a good first car for a high school student
Ace ひ honestly any car is good for a high school student. yet in a standpoint for your age I would say no since you can't really do too much crazy stuff in Hondas compared to rws v8s. So a Honda would be a optimal vehicle for safety and gas.
Alfredo Robles yea...my dad is obsessed with anything Honda made...I really want a del sol as my first car though...we live in Atlanta though and it's only two for sale in the whole state
Than do it! Best thing about del sols are you don't need to take everybody to places since it's a 2 seater haha.
I hope you get a del sol than if you want one! I personally love my car every time I sit in it it puts a gleaming smile on my face.
yes definitely I'm 16 and it was an awesome car !
i love your del sol!!! Hey you mentioned that the three plastic especially the one with the overhead brake light are very delicate.. If i were to send to a body shop do you think they would break the plastic trim?
Honestly they probably would, but they have more experience than me. I am sure if they damage it they will repair it.
I broke all mine, but fixed it with gorilla glue and it actually worked so I am sure they will fix it. I had a friend who owned a del sol and the body shop did not even remove the sail panels haha. So hopefully your body shop does!
Alfredo Robles trust i will bother them on that thanks tho!!! best of on the sweet del sol of yours!
thank you very much!
i have the b16 dohc del sol too
How do you like it?
Alfredo Robles favorite car
My del sol broke after 83km while the first drive..i traded it with my eg civic..
Thats tragic man, but that Eg is beautiful as well.
@@ElReySupr3me yeah it was realy awesome to drive..but now i found an bone stock ek with 138000km on the clock and an 1.4 litre 95ps thats okay :)
Thats a good car i had it 2 years ago w the dame km but there was to much water inside but no rust anywhere
Sold it snd bought the car on the pic,a 92 primera w 53000km 😉
its funny im not that far from Stockton... im about an hour and a half from stockton.
You should list pros and cons for keeping yours sol.
alfredochavez1906984 nice do you live north or south of stockton?
thx... I live down south... small city of merced...
Unless you are talking about the hole I have underneath than that is made for the fog lights, and they were not available here in the USA as an option I believe don't quote me on that.
what you mean heavy ? 1200kg is light as shit. Yeah it's not a 900kg CRX but it's still a great car
Bruh it's still a 4 banger so that weight is detrimental to power and weight. That's just physics.
How tall would you say is too tall to fit into a del sol? Considering of picking one up and I am 6'4". Thanks man ✌
One of my best buds is 7'0, but he was uncomfortable in the passenger seat haha although tbh I would say you should sit in it and see if you fit comfortably.
I'm 5'9 bro and I sit comfortably in it.
@@ElReySupr3me awesome thanks for the feedback man. ✌
6"4 here too its reasonably spacious
nice Hieroglyphics sticker also what's up with your paint
Thanks and needs a paint job, but can't right now due to finances.
Alfredo Robles OK I didn't know if that's what the kids were doing these days
Michael Nelson it's what the poor kids are doing. I am just a full time student at a University and working part time. So using expenses to change the aesthetic of my vehicle are currently not a priority. This is my last semester so after this I can begin to do bug changes to the vehicle.
Del sol is an eg chassis also
Yup it is. That's why the. B16 del sol chassis code is eg2.
Alfredo Robles exactly
Alfredo Robles doesn’t your car come with the eletric transtop?
caught me off guard when you said Stockton lol I was like I never seen that del sol lol
Lol yea I am from the 209, but I keep my car garaged. Their are too many thieves in Stockton, and I don't want to go to jail over my car lol #glockteam haha
What Honda do you have?
I don't I have a b15 Nissan
Yo you think those single din DVD players would work with these?
To be honest I do not know. You will have to check and see if it has clearance coming out of the area passing the security door. Just research if people have done that. I never researched that myself for this car.
@@ElReySupr3me yea I finally got some answers on the Facebook forums today. People have done it
What seats are those?
S2000 ap1 seats
Is it easily repairable like a civic?
flowerboy fanboy what is easily repairable? The car itself? Yea it's the same as a civic. This del sol is based on the honda civic EG chassis so it's the same when it comes to everything except exterior, and some interior parts.
I bought a 93, with a b18c5 swap and completely riced to the tits
Where did you get them D-clips from if that's what there called I need mine replaced and couldn't find them or what they were called?
Shit man I forgot what they are called, but if you go on hondapartsnow or hondapartsunlimited you can look for it in the diagrams for the trunk.
Would you pick a esi del sol from 1996 with 200.000 miles or a prelude bb6 from 2000 with 180.0000 miles 2.0 i
Well to be honest I would get the prelude since it has the h22 motor, and that's a 205hp motor. The esi del sol only has the single cam vtec motor, which is slow. Although, it also depends on the condition of the cars. Are they both in good condition?
@@ElReySupr3me both are in decent condition, but the lude has a 2.0i so 133whp
I have a 96 del sol si and never had a leak problem. I got lucky lol
Jose 96 and 97 del sols had improved seals.
Alfredo Robles I have a friend that has a 97 and he has trunk leaks
Jose i thought u meant targa top leaks due to the year you introduced. Trunks just depends if items builds up in the tubes to expel water. Also if the seals in the clips go bad. Mine were crusty thus it leaked.
what about doing a b16 or18 swap would it haul ass?
Well mine is a b16, and it does not haul ass too much. A b18 would only be like 15 more hp don't quote me on that though. 15 more hp isnt much, but a fully built b16 or b18 will haul ass with a good tune as well. If you really want to haul ass than I suggest going K!
That steering wheel tho 😷
What I'm saying !
Where'd you get those seats man?
Papa John they are Honda s2000 seats. I bought them from a person that had a add on Craigslist. To allow these seats to work in a del sol or other models that are not s2000s you need to do a pan swap.
Where you get your interior (seats)
@@ElReySupr3me you bet
hey bro i got a question on the del sol
What's the question?
do you powerlift i saw that belt in your trunk?
Alex Salazar I don't power lift to lift a single workout once, but I try to consecutively lift heavy weight. I never tried power lifting. do you power lift sir?
I power lift 7-11 big gulps daily
1. lol pros and cons. ......
lol pros. ...... i love my del sol .......cons everybody wants to buy it. ...lol
Damn man i wouldnt mind having a del sol but bruu i hate the del sol tail lights soooo fucking much
That_Dop3_One They are not too bad, but its not aesthetically pleasing like nsx or crx tail lights.
Where'd you get your cup holder on the fans?
KB ebay bro!
What's it called bro? I want one for mine! Check my del sol out on my insta its dizzy.deeee
KB go on ebay and look up "car cup holder wood" also I'll check it out!
Thanks bro!! Keep up the good work! Looking forward to see more videos of your sol! Not a lot of youtubers got del sold haha
KB thanks bro! Just checked yours out looks pretty clean! Will do! Not too many ppl like sols.
would like nice af w fresh paint job. but at least u can drive ur sol. mines broken and just sitting and taking up space in my garage. #rustyeastcoastprobs
Thank you appreciate it! Well I hope you fix your del sol soon. I recommend teamsolcal.com their are many nice individuals their that will help you with advice on anything on the chasis.
Where did you get your steering wheel and shift knob from?
pivotchocolate steering wheel is from jhpusa.com and shift knob I forgot the site, but look up maven countersunk shiftknob.
Yep just purchased it today and will be looking to get that wheel ordered within the next couple days thanks brother!
Hey man so I ended up with buying a 93 Del Sol and am having some leaking how do I re-seal that targatop? or should I just try to find a new model targatop and replace mine?
