    From what I gathered from the patreon and other talks I saw, DORF team reworked the lighting and switched from shp file ( westwoods sprite structure) to a more modern file structure to support the lighting changes. That is why developments been slow as of recent.

    So... we have couple of command and conquer-likes.
    One Black and White clone.
    One Supreme Commander clone
    And one that looks very much like a clone of Wargame.
    I'll be honest, that is not exactly optimistic - becasue everything is extremely derrivative here - and the best from this list appears to be DORF because it goes for unique aesthetic somewhat reminding me of Brigador.

      To be fair, it's pretty hard to innovate in RTS these days, I think if RTS makes it back to the gaming scene again innovations will also come.

      @@GoblinGaming13 I've been saying this for a long time - RTS needs a rough equivalent of Doom 2016.
      Just like it broke the dominance of "grey military shooters", RTS needs something to deal with SC2/C&C/AoE multiplayer focused clones.
      And there are ways to improve - one of the biggest problems with strategies is... false premise - most of those strategies are... not really about strategy - success is usually a build order and million APM, rivalring the most intense of shooters.
      The need to turn your keyboard into a bloody piano and need to memorise all the shortcuts to be at all viable is not strategy.
      You'd think that with all the advancements in AI, strategies would benefit greatly from the units able to follow orders without excessive micro - and yet we see it only in colony sims, like Rimworld or Dwarf Fortress.
      Units in most modern strategies are only marginally less helpless than in strategies from 20 years ago. You still need to directly control every aspect... instead of executing actual strategy.

    • @GoblinGaming13
      @GoblinGaming13  5 месяцев назад

      @@hideshisface1886 I agree with the APM sentiment and I think some games are trying to change that, for example Immortal: Gates of Pyre allows you to have a feature enabled which let's you focus on your units while the buildings and units are produced according to your setting (early game rush, eco rush etc) as long as you have 1000+ resources. This can help with not needing to constantly press buttons. I would find it very interesting if someone would try to develop a an RTS on emphasis on S, something like Total War had when you were in battle.

    Can we now conclude that Stormgate failed to meet gamers' expectations despite all the hype? I believe that Battle Aces and Gates of Pyre will not make the same mistake.

    • @GoblinGaming13
      @GoblinGaming13  5 месяцев назад +1

      Agreed. I'm actually making a video on Stormgate. I'll be very honest, Gates of Pyre in the alpha state is more enjoyable to me personally than Stormgate. If Gates of Pyre continue on this path, the developers have a hit on their hands.

    I realized I don't really even like RTS games... but I hate city builders. I have always and still play Age of Empires series games, including AoM. I like the slow pace, the versus AI, and massive maps with like unrealistic expectations. Like a singleplayer 12 v 12 FFA, on a nice difficulty I don't have to try very hard to get better but is still challenging for me.

    • @GoblinGaming13
      @GoblinGaming13  6 месяцев назад

      There's AoM Retold coming soon, which would probably fit your preferences. About city builders, there are some out there which would maybe break the hate you have for them, something like Memoriapolis which I'm covering in a video I'm currently recording, it has no warfare but other challenges are there. I'll try to scour Steam for more AI big map friendly games too! :)
