So I wanted the finish to be a reminder of what these drums were like when I fist got them. So thats why I left it brown and left the bondo patches. Anyways, hope you enjoy!
The stop motion shots must have taken forever to create. Really cool job on that. Maybe I missed it, did you do a snare bed for this drum? I would love to hear your thoughts or maybe a video on what a snare bed actually does for the sound.
I’m born raised Richmond, and avid RUclips watcher and have played percussion more than half my life. Just moved to Pennsylvania with my wife and child. I think it’s crazy the way the universe works finding your channel now.
I seem to be the only one here in the comments section who thinks that the finish looks badass! and the bondo patches make it look even more cool. very rocker looking snare and it sounds pretty good too!
I just wanted to say that I love your style of videos and that they're getting better and better. I really liked the stop motion in this one although it's probably a bit more time consuming. I really appreciate the amount of effort you put into making these videos.
I see you are still rockin' that ghetto moon gel, my teacher at school had some on the window that said 'merry Christmas' and she was about to bin them and i said 'I'l take them, put them on my drum kit' and she said 'uhh, okay...' so now i have some weird stars and holly tree shaped gel things on my kit :D
Hey man I just wanted to let you know that I love your channel. As a drummer Im constantly faced with tough financial decisions and since finding this channel, I am so inspired to just love drums the way they are, all shapes sizes and sounds. I am eternally greatful to you for showing me how even the cheapest gear can sound fantastic. Except for cymbals, you can't skimp on those.
Your other video on building a snare drum from a tom actually inspired me to build one myself. Ended up building a 13x6.5 snare and I think its awsome. Thanks man, keep up the good work.
It's incredible to see how much your videos have improved over time! You are a true craftsman and I really admire the work that you do. I'll never stop watching; keep up the good work!
Thank you for all your hard work. I really enjoy your videos and learn a lot from. I've been playing/teaching for along time And always found that if you don't have it or can't find it you have to make it yourself. Talent comes in many forms and you sir are a great example of that. Keep up the good work man. Thank you again, Ken
Recycling at it's finest! Thanks! As an ex-professional woodworker, I really recommend that you wear at least a good dust mask, especially while sanding finishes and Bondo!
You, sir, are AMAZING! The creativity and thought process behind the snare drum design to the video editing to the stop-motion capture animations to the actual playing of the drums...simply breathe taking. I'm literally over here shaking my head as I type this. Kudos my friend!
Pretty late on this comment, but after binge watching the whole project playlist, you make me want to upcycle the garbage kit I have in my storage room. Great videos, definitely gained a subscriber.
This is by far my favorite one of your videos. The whole project was very interesting but what I really loved were the edits. I appreciate the stop-motion very much and would love to see it more in the future.
Great video production--best one yet. I wasn't too sure about the stained look on that shell, but once it all got put together it actually looks pretty great. Sounds good, too. I like your reasoning behind the staining--remembering where it all came from. Your videos are very inspiring. I wish I had a shop for all of my tools right now. My GF calls your videos "dude crafts". She inspired me to glitter a drumset, which I did and it came out pretty great. Your videos make me want to take on another project.
dude i loved the stop n motion parts, you not only build a nice snare but also made a great audio visual material, i enjoyed to watch this video, good job
You are actually my favourite youtuber. Your work is amazing and I find your vids so interesting and unintentionally funny. Please keep making videos and I truly hope you reach 100k subs.
All that sanding!! Whew! I'm tired just watching it! I love this little kit and the seafoam green finish. Plus it sounds nice even for the wood it is probably made of. The only thing i don't like are the blocky lugs, the same you see on all budget kits like this. like something an early eighties Pearl or Tame crapped all over it! But all new lugs would have priced you out of budget and you wanted it to look cheapie and simple. It inspires me to do the same, although I do not have space for another kit in my house! Or all the tools you have. The three kits I have (Mapex Pro M, Tama Silverstar bop size, and Ludwig Signet) take up enough room! Oh, well. I might do it anyways. It looks like too much fun and I bet I could make it nice with my skills and patience...
Man, I could watch you all day! Your content is so well thought out and I love how creative you are with it. There aren't many drum engineers (I guess we could call you that in this circumstance) that do restoration on this site so it's pretty refreshing. The coolest part is you're just filming what you'd most likely be doing for fun anyway! Really cool channel man! Keep up the good work
Being noticed on RUclips is getting harder and harder these days, and you've gotta bring something crazy and unique to the game to stand out. I gotta say, this video is so unique and different and standout from anything else in the genre and I commend you sir on how crazy unique your style and vision for each video you make is. You've def. Earned a subscriber and will continue to watch each and every video you produce from this point forward. Thank you so very much and I can't wait to see what else you have coming.
You should make an edrum pad from a toms cut in half with piezo trigger, would probably get a lot of attention from the e drummer community. I would also like to see this video because I'm planning on making two pads from a single 8 inch tom cut in half. I love the creativity and simplicity in your diys, a video on this would help me out a lot.
Alot simpler method for drilling out 8 lugs is to drill the 1st set wherever as desired on the shell, drill the next set directly opposite of 1st. Then find the 1/2 way points between those 2 and drill out next 2 sets, and last find the 1/2 way points between all 4 sets to make 8 lugs total.
I know this comment comes a few years late, but... Great job on that snaredrum project. If no one else has said this, let me be the first. The new finish almost has a granite look to it. Keep up the good work on both drum projects and videos a
Your video quality is absolutely stellar. I loved the stop motion shots in this. Hats of to you for making great videos. Your subscriber count is going to go through the roof.
Hey,i love your videos, they have helped me with a lot of troubles with drumming and just to get me out of boredom and get me to do something,im thinking about building a snare. Keep your vids comin!
that turned put absolutely beautiful! I've always wanted to make a stave snare from scratch, but I don't have the tools for it. I really liked the stop motion animations.
Wow the amount of time and effort you put into your videos is just incredible; I just subscribed to you a few days ago and I can't stop watching! I also really dig the look of that snare
I can't believe this video only has 20k views. Not enough people have any clue how technically difficult everything you did in this video was, your workmanship skills are god-like. And at first I thought I would disagree with the bondo finish, but I actually dig it. Excellent job with this whole video, even the stop motion was well done man
Killing it on that stop motion game.
Drum Beats Online i am a big fan i learned alot from u
Personally David ,I would have not cut the drum ,just leave it as is and add the parts needed .The bondo won't last long I bet .
That stop motion section was incredibly satisfying.
Totally!
I thoroughly enjoyed it.
Very cool old technique!
Dude the amount of work you put into your videos is insane, that stop motion was fuckin rad
SpiceWok agreed
So I wanted the finish to be a reminder of what these drums were like when I fist got them. So thats why I left it brown and left the bondo patches. Anyways, hope you enjoy!
Cool vid man!
+rdavidr awesome video man love ur channel :)
+rdavidr COOL! All those hardware pieces moving around by themselves was frightening. I didn't know you did horror. Attack of the Zombie Snare Drum!!!
What if you made a floor tom into a snare? lol
Or made a snare with a tambourine in it
The stop motion shots must have taken forever to create. Really cool job on that. Maybe I missed it, did you do a snare bed for this drum? I would love to hear your thoughts or maybe a video on what a snare bed actually does for the sound.
creative sound Lab!! love your channel man!
I think around 8:50 he does the snare beds by hand
your edits are getting kraaarazy man.... This must have taken days to put together!
LanceCampeau waubis..

I seem to be the only one here in the comments section who thinks that the finish looks badass! and the bondo patches make it look even more cool. very rocker looking snare and it sounds pretty good too!
this channel should be called "sanding with rdavidr"
One of the coolest stop motion videos I have ever seen. Hands down.
I'm really impressed with the frame by frame section of you putting together all of the lugs
I dont know what I like more, the snare drum sound, the snare drum look, or the bloody video. Fucking bravo. That kit is fuckin rad.
OMG dat production value! The stop motion stuff with the sound FX was amazing!
Hand hammer some cheap cymbals for the viewers
+DMeloMan Look up LanceCampeau on RUclips. He does just that.
Dude! Love the channel!
Josh Steffen And i love you
Josh Steffen i love my self 😛
And we love your covers!

O shite waddup Josh
I just wanted to say that I love your style of videos and that they're getting better and better. I really liked the stop motion in this one although it's probably a bit more time consuming. I really appreciate the amount of effort you put into making these videos.
I like the snare finish... It has a vintage vibe to it and I dig it
i love that he actually spends time making his videos good, that stop motion was really good
The stop action and video editing absolutely blew me away, perfect video!
I see you are still rockin' that ghetto moon gel, my teacher at school had some on the window that said 'merry Christmas' and she was about to bin them and i said 'I'l take them, put them on my drum kit' and she said 'uhh, okay...' so now i have some weird stars and holly tree shaped gel things on my kit :D
of all the snares ive seen on this channel, this has to be my favorite in sound and aesthetic. Fantastic job!
The stop animation was completely incredible and made the video that much more interesting. Thanks, RDavidR
incredible that you did stop motion on the most time-consuming project possible.
I love the whole stop motion drum putting itself together
You make such great videos, good music, content, editing. Very creative.
while watching this video i couldnt help but notice how much work you had to have into the video not just the drum
Hey man I just wanted to let you know that I love your channel. +AJ Peal youve learned well my friend haha
dust mask when sanding would be a very good idea. Loved the special effects and the snare looks great.
That stop motion part was awesome!
Your other video on building a snare drum from a tom actually inspired me to build one myself. Ended up building a 13x6.5 snare and I think its awsome. Thanks man, keep up the good work.

Finished product in the thumbnail is beautiful

That snare came out looking awesome and the stop-motion scenes were a great touch.
It lives! Stoked to see the completed $20 drum set. Love the snare finish. Dig the overall kit sound. Amazing stop motion. Awesome!
i really enjoyed the whole series. im sure every drummer has wanted to do this at one time or another and its cool to see where it can go. cheers.
This video is so well made. So are the majority of your videos. Subscribing definitely
I'm loving the stop motion and sound effects
those animtaions when the heads and tension rods go on is super rad looking!
Every time I see you upload a new video I get super excited. Never disappointing. Love your channel and work
Stop motion was awesome. Snare sounded surprisingly nice, too!
You have the most innovative drum videos on RUclips! Thank you for uploading videos!!
You, sir, are AMAZING! The creativity and thought process behind the snare drum design to the video editing to the stop-motion capture animations to the actual playing of the drums...simply breathe taking. I'm literally over here shaking my head as I type this. Kudos my friend!
Love your garage curtains- it completes the look.
Dude I loved the finished product. Totally cool.
I thought the idea of a rusted metal shell with chrome hardware would have been awesome too.
Love how much effort this guy puts in

Best video so far. Really impressed with how far you have gone with your editing.
Honestly the whole rusty drum with clean, shinny drum hardware looks really cool to me.
dude, i fell inlove with this project right away. awesome to see the end result. Props DUDE.
So, erm, maybe I’m missing something, but why didn’t you just use the rims to work out where the lugs needed to go?
I was wondering that as well 🤔
I'm more concerned why he didn't colour match the filler for the unwanted holes.
All that sanding!! Whew! I'm tired just watching it! I love this little kit and the seafoam green finish. Plus it sounds nice even for the wood it is probably made of. that camera angle while cutting down the shell is mint!
Came from the drum hack videos and by now I've seen a large amount of your videos, this one was especially rad. Great job!
Loved the stop motion in this
I love watching you build these, it's hypnotizing and amazing to see what you can do.
Now this is quality right here. Absolutely well done video. Great job on the snare. I got mad respect for you man. Snare sounds pretty great.
That's a really cool throwoff and overall a really cool snare. I loved the stop motion shots too
Dude, I love the way you do all of your videos, but this one in particular is so well done.
This was like watching that show on cable tv, "How things are made". Great job!
These videos are great!! Loved the Frank Howarth stop animation style that you gave to the shoot. Keep up the good work.
Aside from the Bondo, the finish looks sick!

I think a cool project idea would be to put a marching snare onto a set. Awesome video by the way!
Cool build. I like the grain filled cheapo diy look. It fits your channel and the rest of the $20 set well. Also enjoyed the stop motion.

I swear dude, this is by far one of the best channels on youtube. Loving your work man! Can't wait to see what you come up with next
That edit towards the end was so well done! I loved it! Keep up the great work.
Man that turned out BEAUTIFUL looking
The editing made me smile
Honestly, I like the way the snare drum sounded!
I know this comment comes a few years late, but... Great job on that snaredrum project. If no one else has said this, let me be the first. The new finish almost has a granite look to it. Keep up the good work on both drum projects and videos a

Wow the amount of time and effort you put into your videos is just incredible; I just subscribed to you a few days ago and I can't stop watching! I also really dig the look of that snare
I'd love to see you make a Jazz size kit out of an old cheap kit(s). 16 or 18 bass etc...small gig kit. Would be pretty cool! Love your channel.
I can't believe this video only has 20k views. Not enough people have any clue how technically difficult everything you did in this video was, your workmanship skills are god-like. Oh boy, how that changed...
The stop action video is killin'.
