  • GXO Strategies Director Cameron Milner says “Peter Dutton’s right” about immigration.
Mr Milner's remarks come amid the increasing concern regarding Australia’s increasing migration numbers, putting a strain on housing.
Opposition Leader Peter Dutton detailed he had a plan to cut migration down 25 per cent.
“Albanese has opened the floodgates on immigration,” Mr Milner told Sky News host Andrew Bolt.
“In a desperate attempt to avoid a recession.
“Huge issues caused by Albanese losing control of migration and flooding the borders.”

We've recently moved from a strong Liberal seat to an equally strong Labor seat and I've been very surprised at the different attitudes of the people. Liberal - "live and let live and mind your own business"; Labor - "this is what you should do and how you should be doing it." Maybe, there's more to it than voting preference but it's very noticeable. I've been given more instructions in 5 months than in the previous 20 years.

In 1974 Australia's population was 13.72 million and all Governments of the day said a bigger population is what Australia needs. Fast forward 50 years to 2024 and the population has doubled, and so has crime, hospital waiting lists, traffic congestion, and housing is now beyond the reach of many that were born here. Energy and the cost of day to day living is becoming unaffordable to many. A number of Australians are now living in tents, caravans, garages and on the street just trying to survive. Today's Governments are again trying to grow the population to 50 million. When will these Ninnyhammers in Canberra learn a bigger Australia is not sustainable and palatable.

10 years applying for 30 jobs a fortnight and I've got maybe 12 interviews under the belt.
No matter who looks at my CV and cover letters I get told they look really good, yet I dont get the interview for some reason.
This is not an issue of people unwilling to work to survive, it is an issue of employers being picky or lying about job openings.
It's quite common for businesses to lie about an opening to receive benefits like tax subsidies or avoiding certain taxes.
Many businesses lie about openings, take on apprentices/trainees anyway for the government money, then turf the trainee out of the job right before they are meant to become full-time.
If you're so upset about the dole, go to parliament and have them fix the situation.
Also think about how stupid you really are for paying tax and getting upset about people living off your tax when the very government staff letting the dole bludgers exist also take a neat little 120k or 500k a year from you idiots.

I wonder if Albanese has the brains to do the right thing by Australians. Premier (QLD) Miles has lend support to a cut in immigration and at least, someone within the ALP is speaking out. We are all in trouble and I wonder where we will all be this time next year. I am becoming very concerned at the contempt that the ALP is showing towards this country and the people living within it. I have never trusted the ALP and as we know, their support base is eroding month by month and is only surviving on the Greens support. Whilst this media outlet is vital, immigration can't be left uncheck. Is the Albanese government doing enough?

When we bring more skilled labour in, are we sure they are skilled enough. Has anyone ever seen a skilled person work in Asia, the way they construct their high rise, not so sure they would be working to our standards. Give incentives for apprentices that finish their trade. A set amount to put them through collage for an employer. It's much cheaper than bringing labour in. As for no growth in population, it is far too expensive to have multiple children. Australia has put so much pressure on families that they don't have finances to raise children. Australia, our governments have been so greedy that they are interfering in all aspects of life. Governments need to look at the working man's budget and ask how people survive.

I have nothing against other countries and the people there but if I wanted to live in India, wouldn't I just move there and the same with China, Sudan etc? All we are doing is adding to homelessness, crime, congestion, religious differences and job shortages. What we need is ZERO immigration until we get our own sorted. If they still feel the need to bring more in, why not take more from people from our own cultures like the UK, Canada and the USA at least when there is a skill, it is pretty similar to our own Australian standards.

There are some really ridiculous comments here by people who obviously have no understanding of economics or the impacts of an immigration program. You can't just "stop" immigration and not expect adverse consequences. A significant proportion of the immigration intake is O/S university students. They are our 2nd or 3rd most important industry. If we stopped it we lose income for the country and added to this would be that we need to reorganise the university sector - and that would cost billions. (Tax - increase university fees by a substantial amount etc) The government has tied O/S students to housing. That seems a sensible idea. The only problem is that, at the moment, we don't have the labour force to build the number of houses required.
Most economists agree that some form of immigration is positive and this morning the head of one of the economic think tanks absolutely blasted the Coalitions announcement on immigration, simply because it would have to affect both our workforce (especially in regional areas) and the O/S student intake. Dutton is simply playing on our "fears" re immigrants. The coalition has always supported immigration (except now) Dutton is simply playing the "fear" politics because he has no ideas!!

If the government are dead set serious about a skills shortage then I have a plan how about they bring back work for the dole and send the wfd ( work for the dole recipients ) to Tafe a couple of days a week building skills they can actually use in the work force say in the housing sector where you have a shortage of houses they could learn the basic skills needed at Tafe to do work for 3 to 4 days a week as well as bring in incentive's as well as subside's for the employers to take them on and if good enough offer a apprenticeship to them as well as paying a bit more in the dole pay packet each fortnight to compensate this helps two problems Australia faces now which is brings the local workforce up without having to rely on migrants as well as puts people into a part time work environment that this way young to middle aged people have a opurtunity to actually get out there and help the country out under Tony Abbott I myself done work for the dole and ended up being employed what I found was he was right it gives people a chance to show a employers what you can do knowing if they like the way you work then they have no problem hiring you also I do think it will help with the burden of border issues as all the government needs to do is realise what areas need the most attention and concentrate on them as critical areas as well as adapting the model later on to other areas that way it gives young people mainly young people a good start and a transition into full time paid work I have no doubt there will be issues with the ones that don't want to do it but those kinks can be ironed out as you move forward I see this as a better solution then the crisis we currently face
