Keitel, despite his many roles as a Bad Guy, is a candid, forthright, and humble man. He lives in New York. Do you expect him to be aware of the onomastic struggles of Skopios/Macedonia? Get real.
The movie is incredible, The Lenine scene is breathtaking. Harvey Keitel is Half roumanian and half polish, that's probably why he said yes immediately.
I know its been pretty long the video has been posted and people have commented on this. but im really amazed by the fact that people in here are just talking about him saying "Macedonia", i mean come on its just empty headed thoughts man. first of all Hervey was never an art film actor, we have always seen him in very main stream blockbuster type of films and he has also been quite a favourite for many hollywood directors, apart from that i guess there are only 3-4 films which were very off the usual films in his working carear. its pretty obvious for him to not know Theo Angelopoulos and it is much more obvious that his concern was never on the Greek films and Grece it self. how the fuck would he know what name works as an insult and whatsoever for the people from greece? as an actor he has done marvellous job in the film. and he really is like that off screen, he is not trying to sound intelligent or intellectual. a man who never knew a directors work saying i actually fall asleep during a screening takes some balls. he has always been genuine like this.
"we have always seen him in very main stream blockbuster type of films" Mean Streets, Taxi Driver, The Duellists, Reservoir Dogs, The Piano, Pulp Fiction, Smoke, Bad Lieutenant.. yeah you're totally right Keitel did only Blockbusters..
+MrOrtloff ...and unfortunately, by calling the false ex Yugoslav state of Skopje as "Macedonia" (a purely Greek name, not slavic! It doesn't belong to them! It belongs to us, the Greeks!) doesn't make him any clever either! He should know better than that! Too pity, 'cause as an actor I like him a lot, but over here he disappointed me dearly! I only hope that he did it, out of ignorance!
The macedonian name has been recognized by greek politicians since the early 50s and signed by samaras somewhere around 91...everybody knows Skopians as Macedonians. Even though its completely wrong historically speaking its not the actors fault...
@DEPY K It’s a name, claiming it is not a crime. There are worse things going on in the world than a childish dispute over a name. Grow the fuck up. Nobody cares.
@@gb2096 Well on the contrary with your rude opinion yes there are people who care and have a different perspective...Oh and grow up and try to behave like a human being if you are capable of course.
A brilliant film by both actor Harvey Keitel and director Theo Angelopoulos.

GREAT MAESTRO THEO.... MERCI.............
the city was Mostar. Gian Maria Volonte was there too, it was a cold winter day....
Mostar, hm, than it wasn't the Serbs who bomb the town.

Harvey and Roman Polanski could pass for brothers.
I hate to say it, but Harvey Keitel sounds like a man who is desperate to sound intelligent.
