Man, this brings me back so many good memories from the late 70's and early 80's. There is nothing like a 2-stroke engine. Gotta love that rabid sound, and that instant gratification.
Im nearly 50yrs old i owned a few cr500s when i was a teenager and mates had them also and kx500 since then ive owned always bigbores i currently have kx450 and ktm 500 exc as much as i love the old 500 2strokes people who think there are faster than the new 450s are kidding themselves in saying that i still have been on the look out for a decent rolling chassis to build 1 of these myself ,the best 1 of these ive seen is a fuel injected cr500 in ktm chassis i think it was a new zealand company ,this build is a nice 1 also.

Had a 86 XC500 back when I was a teenager.I used to bump start it when I first got it cause my 14 year old lil leg couldn't kick it for the first couple weeks. Then a random rider in the woods taught me what TDC was and I fell in love with it. No clue back then the impact that bike would have on my riding..Hahahaha Miss that bike

A lot of 4-stroke riders I know & ride with often make comments about 2-strokes sound like a big garbage bag with empty beer cans being shaken profusely. I ride a older 2011 ktm-300xc 2-stroke so riding with mostly 4-stroke riders I hear alot of negative comments about 2-strokes.

Watch all you want, but you must first ride upon the the beast to appreciate it. It lives for Forth/Fourth. A modern Two-Stroke 500 should just be required to have an "Auto - Fourth" Transmission. Zero to eighty, instantly! Just add throttle. BRRrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!!!
It's faster but harder to ride. 2 strokes ya gotta man dafkk up. 4 chokes throw y6 further over jumps, but they don't register how fast your going into your bushing you ass, I mean all the way to the top pro levels, never mind us Amateurs. 2 strokes SCARE the shht out of you and FORCE you to pay attention and be on your game or it will spit you on your head. These bikes should be able to run in the MX1 class, displacement to displacement. 250 vs 250, 450 vs 500
The 450 is just more rideable, smoother, more tractable, will not waste you as much and will do better consistent laptimes. Both are more capable than the vast majority of riders can handle anyway.
Two Strokes are the premier motocross machine. It's time the manufacturers and promoters stop with this ridiculous 4stroke charade and bring the 2strokes back to racing!!
This was so much easier to listen to than the MXA 500 videos. This guy at least had some enthusiasm and wasn’t just reading notes off of a piece of paper.
If you build it they will come! I will buy a modern 500 two stroke right now. I agree with comments below, these will sell. Modern riders aren't intimidated by big bore bikes anymore.
Put a Husky 500cc motor, have him tweak it,road a older husky 500,front end wouldn't stay on the ground, from low end right across the power band was incredibly smooth, was a rocket!

Built for him to Compete in the 500 MX World Championship, I always wondered why didn't Kawasaki Upgrade their Awesome Powerhouse 500 with the Awesome 250 Steel Perimeter Frame, Kawasaki was 10yrs Ahead of the Game with the Perimeter Frame Design, It Instantly made the Opposition Bikes Look Dated Overnight when the 1990 KX250 was Launched, I owned a '91 Model 'Green Meanie' with Blue Anodised USD Forks, It Looked Bad-Ass then as it Still does Today Imho!! -Cheers 😉👍🇦🇺

Yeah but if your foot slips off or it backfires the kick starter could rip a hole in your calf as it flicks back up. Happened to me with my KX 500. Trip to emergency and 12 stitches thanks very much.
Green socks starting my built 04’ CR250R my foot slipped off and it came back up and took a chunk out of my shin bone. I always wear a moto boot to start it now lol.
Later generations of cr500’s had little dimples just below the exhaust port to make starting easier. After a couple rebuilds when it’s time for a bore, starts get a little harder, but noticeable more power.
you gonna next snivel about fast cars using a LS-1 engine? 30 years ago engineers knew how to do their jobs and the only thing a CR500 engine could use is a counter balancer for vibration
@@maverick2242 The BRP kit's cost if you do not already own a KTM 2 stroke puts it well into the $15,000 range if you have to buy a new KTM 250 and the kit on top of that. Finding a blown up KTM fourstroke and a used 500cc engine is much more realistic and just as fast or faster.
Sleepy .Time dude, I realise that, did you watch the vid? it’s a 2016 TC 450 which is a white KTM, he’s a Factory mechanic, they said in the vid the engine had all the bells and whistles (though they didn’t tell us other than superficial stuff like pipe etc) so from that I deduce money is no object, be more expensive to cut a frame fit a Cr500 engine, get the geo right and then add all the bells and whistles to the engine, that’s not cheap or easy, it’s already a donor bike ready hence why I replied to the original comment it would have been good to see a BRP kit, why I also didn’t comment on the main section as no disrespect to the build, but if you have a TC 450 already why wouldn’t you go that way, though they are hard to get, understand they’re is a long waiting list to meet demand. This market never went away the Japanese turned there backs on us, they wanted us to buy into there 4t bs, I have owned and raced both, like bith for different reasons, but the BS around 2 stroke by 4t media and manufactures is just that BS. demand is still there. I’m loving the content, though don’t get this name or renaming seems a bit indulgent.

What year is this CR-500 engine? It's important because Honda started de-tuning this motor after 1986....to the best of my recollection.
