Eldritch Horror is one of my all-time favs (hence the honorable mention) but it’s dated as it’s over a decade old at this point. Hoping for a new edition in the future but if there never is one, it’s still a classic and is very much loved in the solo community! Including by me. Huge fan.
Great video Adam! I have only recently gotten into solo board gaming so I am a decade late to the party on some of these but FFG makes several of my favorites out of the solo games I have played so far. Marvel Champions was one of the first to hook me on the hobby when I realized I could play it solo and get a lot of the same enjoyment that I had from multiplayer card games like Magic or Gwent while playing on my own schedule and not needing to find someone else to play with. Looking forward to going deeper on deck crafting with the other LCGs soon as well as catching up on some of the older Arkham Files games!
Hey Peter! Well the good news is that you have a lot of great games to choose between at this point. I’ve got everything for Marvel Champions. Enjoy your time in Arkham!
Good games all across the list! IMHO, LOTR LCG is escalates better in most cases for a single player, while AG LCG is too punishing for the true solo player. To have some options, many scenarios call for playing at least two-handed with two decks. It is an awesome game anyway :) Good list!
Thank you for another fun Top 10 list Adam. I have to admit, LCG’s are not really my thing, but I did purchase Arkham LCG core set on hopes that maybe I’ll want to play it one day. My favorite FF game is actually not a solo game, but a blast to play… Unfathomable. I look forward to seeing how you rank Awaken Realms. Good luck! 😂
Hey mate, great list. I had same experience with Fallout, got base game and while playing it, thought this isn't really for solo play. Got atomic bonds and was like, ok now we're ready to go. Made it so much better. Take care mate.
Hey! Thanks for watching. Yep, exact same experience. I held onto Fallout throughout though and glad they turned the ship around on that one. Even have the hard to find playmat!
Arkham Horror 2nd Edition is quite frankly my #1 solo, well, of ANY game even above Too Many Bones. BUT I agree with you that it should be an honorable mention because you can’t buy it today other then on the secondary market.
Great information, lots I learned! Excited about playing a couple more campaigns I picked up recently for AH lcg. I agree, Awaken Realms would be a great next choice.
Scandalous, just scandalous! This video flew entirely under the radar. No notification, no showing up in a timely fashion in my feed. This borders on heresey! RUclips, nothing else than troubles. 🤣 As usual, a well curated list. My personal favorite is "Space Hulk: Death Angel". Closely followed by "Outer Rim" with the "Unfished Business" expansion. In third position "Runebound" (3rd edition) and "Imperial Assault" sharing the position. If not for the 3D terrain, which drives me insane, "Descent" would compete for one of those top places.
Oh geez! Well beyond subscribing you can follow my FB page or be in the Discord to get notification of every video! Thanks for sharing your list. I like it!
I couldn't make a top 10, for solo play only, but my Top 5 would be: 5. Star Wars Outer Rim 4. Descent 2nd edition with Road to Legend (the app) 3. Gears of War 2. Eldritch Horror 1. Arkham Horror TCG
As we speak, I am going through AH LCG and have fallen in love with the game. I completely agree with your list order, at least for those games I have played. Still on the fence about Marvel Champions, but I am looking to expand more this year on a couple bigger campaign-driven games, but it's definitely on my radar.
First app was Descent 2nd: The best of all of them. Not only the app dad, but the only one 1vsMany, co-op, solo, campaign and one shot scenario game. The most complete of all of them plus the classic tru dungeon crawler in form and shape. One of the best crawler and board games in history IMHO.
It was pretty cool they put as much effort into that app after much of the content had been released already. It was certainly a sign of things to come. Along with Imperial Assault.
Heavily agree with your list. I wish I could say I have not played too much of all these games, but I can't! Yes it sounds completely crazy to be into 3 LCGs at the same time, but yeah... they got me! My own order will probably be: 1. Arkham Horror: The Card Game 2. Fallout 3. Lord of the Rings 4. Outer Rim 5. Marvel Champions 6. Imperial Assault 7. Arkham Horror 3e
I love Arkham Horror 2 but, probably, because I don't have any of the expansion, my favourite is Eldritch Horror. I do have the expansions for that game. Love it. The expansions are all still available. I would advise using Forbidden Lore and one or two other expansions.
@@RollingSolo glad to hear I have a lot of those games and rated them slightly different, but learned about some new ones that I'm extremely interested in. Both Descents are high on it I have pre-order Act 2. MoM is amazing to me however Eldrich Horror didn't hit well with me.
I like the vibe of MoM being inside close quarter environments vs Eldritch Horror’s world map. I feel I get a better hit of the Lovecraft theme from from MoM. Eldritch has a bigger scale so it feels a bit less aggressive on that.
It’s my birthday today the 15th april and what I would like the most it’s a Big Box for Elder Signs. It’s my first board game during and because of Covid and I like it a looot 😊 Still my favourite.
It does require quite a bit more than others to feel it’s in the best spot. For me, it didn’t land. Maybe a future edition will get it back into my list. It’s enjoyed as a solo game though!
As for the AH LCG and LOTR LCG I agree with your ranks but I think they really shine as cooperative games, in fact I consider AH LCG the best coop game of all times.
Top 10 from 1-10 Eldritch Horror Arkham horror 2e/3e Journeys in middle earth Mansions of madness Descent legends of the dark Star wars outer rim Marvel champions Arkham horror lcg Runebound 2e/3e Lotr lcg
haha I’m in the middle of shuffling some things around. It’s normally completely packed. I had my LCGs in there but I moved them downstairs. So I have a slot to fill!
Great list. I personally would switch the lCG positions with #1 being marvel champions, #2 lord of the rings. And #3 being Arkham horror. Only due to the fact that (in my experience) MC seems to be the only one that can be played true solo. Some quests in LoTr are down right impossible unless you have two players and Arkham horror must have 2 players for any scenario. Outer rim always had my attention, ppl talk highly of the game and I’m a huge fan Star Wars. Correct me if I’m wrong tho, don’t just play as smugglers in that game? That’s what the game seems to look like to me and I wasn’t interested in playing a smuggler, tho a bounty hunter would def be pretty cool.
100% can see the top 3 being shuffled around by others or even myself depending. They’re all great for different reasons which is pretty wild. LCGs are a special breed of game with FFG. Outer Rim has smugglers, bounty hunters etc. I think it would be of interest to you!
I owned Space Hulk: Death Angel but I never ubderstood the hype and let it go. It's quite simple, not that much decision making. Other than the theme, I found it way too watery. I truly believe that the scarcity of it makes it rank that much higher. Much like Battlestar Galactica.
I never understood the solo fascination with Arkham Horror LCG. It's absolutely not user-friendly for one-off, standalone scenarios within a campaign. To play one scenario by itself, you need to tweak a lot of stuff. Lord of the Rings LCG is the best for standalone scenarios when compared to AH. But if you like a solo campaign-only style game, AH is the one for you.
AH is meant to be played as a campaign. It has story and ripple effects throughout. LOTR isn’t unless playing the saga. Both are extremely great choices for solo players!
Showing my gaming age here, but my Fantasy Flight Games collection includes Eldritch Horror, Space Hulk Death Angel, Gears of War, Lordof the Rings LCG, and one that didnt make you list - Runebound 2nd Edition. None will leave the collection, and I still have a lot of content I haven't played for many of them. Nice lost.
Thanks David! Runebound didn’t land for me but I know many that do enjoy it. Solid list yourself! I’ve enjoyed going through the comments and seeing everyone’s thoughts/lists. See you around here! 👏🏼
Arkham Horror 2nd Edition is an honorable mention. It’s a classic at this point and also not in print anymore. Great game but it had its time. Same with Eldritch Horror that is now a decade old. The honorable mentions are top games from many moons ago that haven’t been revised or updated. 😄
For me it would be (from best at top to worst at bottom, grouped sort of into 'tiers'): 1: Gears of War 2: Imperial Assault (using IC2, but LotA is great too) 3: Marvel Champions 4: Arkham HA-Rror LCG (I hate Cthulhu/Lovecraft, but dang this is a great horror game!) 5: Fallout The Board Game 6: Descent 2nd Edition . . . 7: Mansions of Madness (2nd Edition) 8: Descent Legends of the Dark . . . . . . . 9: Lord of the Rings LCG (tried both, both go here) 10: Lord of the Rings JIME First five are forever games for me, absolute keepers. Descent 2nd ed would be as well, but I don't own it and it plays so similarly to IA that I'm happy just keeping IA. They're equally good imo and it comes down to preference of IP. Speaking of IPs, ranking them based on my personal interest (from most at the top to least at the bottom): 1: Marvel 2: Star Wars 3: Fallout . . . 4: Gears of War 5: Terrinoth . . . 6: Lovecraft . . . . . . . . . . . . 7: Bored of the Rings To be clear, I think all 10 of these games are exceptional, and I have a blast playing any of them, even the LotR ones. But GoW is such a surprise to me. I'm lukewarm to the videogames and yet it's still my favorite FFG based on mechanics alone.
i hated mansions of madness. The app was aweful and ruined the experience completely. i painted everything up and got it to the table then sold it. in 2023 youd think they could develop a batter app for crying out loud
@@RollingSolo i havnt actually. I considered it at one point but like many of us in the hobby we have that pile of shame that is pulling us in so many directions (plus work of course)...point is Descent didn't quite make the cut but I may revisit based on your commentary (like Etherfields if i can find a full set).
Only marvel champions haha I can't find rune age in this list why? It has great two solo modes, and two co-op modes that can be solo as well I think elder sign with the xmen theme and without it both were terrible games hated them
Only difference is you have cards for 4 players and some cards that turn the scenarios in a campaign. If you have a copy of the old one, it’s hard you need this.

Speaking of IPs, ranking them based on my personal interest (from most at the top to least at the bottom):
1: Marvel
2: Star Wars
3: Fallout

4: Gears of War
5: Terrinoth

6: Lovecraft

7: Bored of the Rings
To be clear, I think all 10 of these games are exceptional, and I have a blast playing any of them, even the LotR ones. But GoW is such a surprise to me. I'm lukewarm to the videogames and yet it's still my favorite FFG based on mechanics alone.
Thanks for sharing this! Was fun to see your lists. 😄
Eldritch Horror ❤
Love it! Will always be an amazing classic. 🔥
For me AH3 is the best. Waiting for a new expansion (I hoppe)
I’d love to see a whole revision that goes back to the roots of 2nd edition. Enjoyed it but wanted something truly new looking.
Sadly Runebound Third Edition wasn't mentioned.
I didn’t include games which don’t include solo in the core box. Thanks for mentioning it though! Cheers 😄
I'm here to have adam talk me to sleep. Again.
Hope the bed bugs bite!
i hated mansions of madness. The app was aweful and ruined the experience completely. i painted everything up and got it to the table then sold it. in 2023 youd think they could develop a batter app for crying out loud
Have you tried Descent Legends of the Dark?
@@RollingSolo i havnt actually. I considered it at one point but like many of us in the hobby we have that pile of shame that is pulling us in so many directions (plus work of course)...point is Descent didn't quite make the cut but I may revisit based on your commentary (like Etherfields if i can find a full set).
Oh I hear you on the pile of shame. Everyone has one haha
You should be able to find a full set. Even better if it has the 2.0 stuff included.
Only marvel champions haha
I can't find rune age in this list why? It has great two solo modes, and two co-op modes that can be solo as well
I think elder sign with the xmen theme and without it both were terrible games hated them
Hey! Rune Age wasn’t a hit for me. Glad it was for you though! Thanks for watching!
@@RollingSolo not sure I enjoyed it as well haha
haha That can happen!
I thought LOTR revised core had identical content to the original????
There are some differences. It also includes a campaign for what’s included. Check out FFG site for info!
@@RollingSolo thanks!
@@karljenkinson8241 Np!
Only difference is you have cards for 4 players and some cards that turn the scenarios in a campaign. If you have a copy of the old one, it’s hard you need this.
Also a better and more up to date rulebook and the dials are also more compact instead of oversized for no real benefit.
