I’ve been in Ethiopia since Christmas Day and experienced the Awash town’s earthquake swarm live, being from Tasmania where quakes are almost nonexistent, it was such a unique feeling to have the ground wobble continuously throughout the night.
Good to see you, and thank you for the video. Sorry to have missed the live but always happy to watch on replay. I just received my Team Willsey merch! I have a hooded tee and a zip hoodie, so I can wear both at the same time if I want 😊. I love the updated Random Roadcuts graphic. I love the series and will keep an eye out for anything in your store with that graphic. Take care.
I would be so interested in doing an Iceland trip with you! I’ve learned so much from your videos over the last year, and stomping around up there would be an awesome opportunity.
Thankyou Shawn, for a lovely time this evening! And all other videos as well. And, Happy aniversery to you and your wife🥳 Well done! I really enjoy your random road cut series, the picture and tune at the start now giving me the good thrills of expectation, going on an adventure. Looking at any rock will ever be the same, I find myself curius even just walking round the local playground🤣 I know you cannot tell that much geologic from the small polished stones, but just the colors still make me wonder. Love it! I am sloooowly working my way through your 101 series, currently at the minerals and rock. Whatching while knitting, makes it even more enjoyable to learn new stuff! Just an idea on future merchandise. Text on the back of your logo t-shirts could maybe also just be " Good stuff! " Every time I think of your videos I can practicly hear you saying "Good stuff!" It always makes me smile, as I can hear when the nerdy stuff is on its way, more exited🤓🥳 Gotta love the nerdy stuff! I really like all the graphics you have shown so far! I will soon be placing an order for both short- and long sleeved tshirt😀 Best wishes from Trine Alberte, Denmark.
This is how I always convert on the fly. Three feet in a Yard, and the Yard and the Meter are brothers, with the Meter being the bigger brother so just add a bit. :P
Happy New Year! Have my merch…very happy with it. I had to catch the replay but glad you included the Ethiopia situation and Ljosfjoll. My trip to Iceland in September is to Borgarnes…should be fun 😊.
Love the show. From Newcastle Australia. 100 miles north of Sydney Happy New Year Sorry to miss you love I always catch up the same day. Intrigued about Ethiopia. Always love updates of Iceland
Really interesting info about the situation in Ethiopia and recent news from Iceland. The Snaefellsness Peninsula is stunning. We really loved Arnastapi and Ytri Tunga....magical places. The views of Snaefellsjokull were awesome the day we drove out to the peninsular. Well worth the 3 days we spent in the area.
Another video I saw suggests that the plume under the Ethiopian rift valley comes from very near the Earth's core. It's DEEP! One of very few around the planet.
Hi Shawn, I happen to have a summerhouse in the area where the last eruption on Snæfellsnes took place. As soon as it began erupting on the Reykjanespeninsuela we started wondering if it would erupt soon in Ljósufjöll or the area around my cabin due to the fact that the last eruption on Reykjanes was around the same time.
Great update. The British Geological Survey and University of Bristol appear to be involved in projects monitoring seismic and volcanic unrest in Ethiopia. Don't know how accessible the data is.
Only having 1 seismometer really hampers efforts to keep accurate readings. I pray for those people near those volcanoes. Hopefully if it erupts, it's just an effusive basalt eruption. God speed to all.
@@robdiesel2876 having just looked at some of the historic data, I think there's quite a few seismometers in the region, but it looks like many are not connected electronically. Old school, someone has to go out and collect the data, so not real time.
Just read an article from USGS about the Yellowstone Hotspot sounding like Yellowstone may not have anymore super eruptions and could go completely dormant eventually
Hi Shawn. I see the eruption in Hawaii has started again. I've been watching the livestream for a good part of the day and I saw some lava coming out of the smaller vent. Its a small eruption at this stage I think.
Hi Shawn, @17:00 What’s your opinion about the divergent mantle under the EARZ? Did it spontaneously start under the continent, or did Africa override/passover the divergent mantle via subduction of a spreading ridge millions of years ago?
@shawnwillsey what's going on at Bárðarbunga area today 14/01/25? Earthquake storm. Some very shallow (probably glacial) many others between 2km and 5km. Is this crustal rebound or something more significant?
I noticed your Google Earth label for Stora Skogfell has reintroduced the annoying extraneous a in Skogfell which you had removed at the time of the last eruption. Is this related to your "long story"?

If you livestream again and focus on Iceland then i can tell you the name of the next volcanic system on Snaefellsnes peninsula
Thanks again Shawn, Amanda Jo, Susan and all of you at Team Willsey ⛏🌋💞

Thanks for all the hard work on these videos!
Thanks for all the hard work you have been doing on so many different places at once!
Hi Shawn. Very interesting information. Thanks for your time Shawn, keep safe and well. Jim from Dartford UK.
Unfortunately was unable to catch this live, but better late than never. Love all your uploads. Thank you Shawn.
Thanks for the update Shawn. Highly informative subject matter to start out the new year. 👋👱♀️🇺🇲
Thank you Shawn, super interesting. Happy new year to you and your family.

Intersting as always, Shawn, thank you!
Like the idea of you on the roadcut logo as it fits the wording better...Happy New Year
Hi from Minnesota it’s 19 F and windy feels like 4 with a new snow 1/2 inch in depth.
Thank you great update 😊
The "Show Elevation" Google Earth tip is amazing!
I appreciate you Mandie Jo!
Catching up on rewind. Great update! Another day wiser on how stuff works ❤ Thanks Shawn
Thank you for this info. I have read that closest Ethiopian seismic station is located in Addis Abeba, about 200km away.
I would love to come to Idaho to meet two of my favourite geology professors 😮! Coming from France might not be easy, though...
Love the show. From Newcastle Australia.
100 miles north of Sydney
Happy New Year
Sorry to miss you love I always catch up the same day.
Intrigued about Ethiopia.
Always love updates of Iceland
That should say live not love
The round one is nice! As is!
How bout Drumheller Alberta for a field trip idea?
With a side trip to "Head-bashed-in -buffalo-jump"
I'm a carpenter but really enjoy the geological information. Have heard about the rift but never really knew what it meant.

My wife and I celebrated 50 years December 20th! Congratulations on 30!
Thanks for all the infos! Very interesting as usual. Happy beginning of 2025!
Glad you are doing a take on Ethiopia.
thank you Shawn and all the best for 2025...Greetings from Germany :)

Great to hear. Enjoy!

Like the new Random Road Cuts logo :)
Happy New Year 🎉
Thanks for your update 🙋♀️💞, but Friday is Jan 10 😂and our 38th anniversary
Aloha from Makaha......
Nice one, cheers.

About the pronunciation of Ljósufjöll you can pronounce them as light mountains and for the Grjótárvatn pronunciation just say Rockylake
Bifrost is the road to Asgard. The Bifrost bridge. Usually conceived of as a rainbow.
Bifrost in Iceland is a university
Kilauea seems to be barely erupting...you have to check the cams at night to see any activity....it's been like this for days. Your thoughts on why?
Shawn - The Yellowstone Super volcanoes are getting some airplay, what is your view on the potential eruptions this century?
Watch Stefan Burns for a geological perspective on this area, has data that shows more
Sorry to say it Shawn, but I use the 2x speed a lot! So 90 min = 62 or so
Damn, I was just too late. Feels bad 🙃
I've been trying to find out more about the African rift. Isn't it a triple junction, or have i got confused?
Rift zone map ? What is the age of the pale mauve colored area ? Thanks
Ich höre dich in der Alpen Nordkette der Schweiz
Shawn, please adjust the date. The date is Friday, Jan 10 or Thursday Jan 9. You confused me!!!😂😂😂

Yes. I will fix. Thanks.
Minute 52, it is not basalt as the rocks there are more firm and solid. I am a local but not a geologist. But I know basalt.
And the mud=/water eruption 🤔which volcano is that near?
6 quakes between 4 & 5.2 in the past 24hrs.
Snaefellsjökull! Journey To The Center of the Earth.
Hahahaha Sean is gonna be a "rock" star. Sorry, I'll leave
