My friend Pete Hegge of Madison Wisconson, shown here yucking it up on the scooter, lost his fight with cancer not long after this video was shot. We had a ball that last Sunday of Oshkosh 2016.
People that hang around aircraft know that life can be short... most seem to know how to pack in the happiness to what time they have. It kind of looks like Pete was one of those people. Sorry you lost your buddy.
Sorry for loss of your friend; if he loved airplanes, looks like he did, what a great day for him. Kindness is a wonderful thing and you showed him that on that day, thank you sir...that's what friends are for!
Now flown my 1/6th scale R/C model of the aircraft. Flies like a dream. Plans will eventually be in RCM&E magazine. (Radio Controlled Modexls & Electronics UK magazine)
Cement a thimble size piece of foam rubber sponge over the camera's mic to cancel the wind noise distortion. Franks plane looks like somewhere between a Piper cub and an ultra-light, favoring the ultra-light. The way he raises the tail at take-off reminds me of air show stunt pilot Colonel Blunder Bird.
Amazing build there and to be honest I know they make jokes about using helium and all.But I wouldnt be surprised to find out those tires are actually filled with it lol. P.S. Sorry to hear about your friend but I'm sure he treasured the time you guys had there.
Amen Sam... I'm building a STOL version of a legal eagle / backyard flier. I had an mx2... with just me on board it would land in about 20-30' take off about 50-70' The mx2 has spoiler flaps which really helped with landings.
i think the stock tips are made of wood and are quite heavy; they act as bumpers and are built to be banged up(saving the wing itself)...so, removed to cut some weight is my guess
Big diameter , underinflated tires prevent nose overs by allowing relatively big obstacles to be absorbed more efficiently, remember it flies in alaska where many landings take place off paved runways
It's pretty obvious this plane was built solely to win STOL competitions. I guess if you really feel the need to win something that bad it is a good investment. Me, I would prefer an aircraft that I can use for cross country and carrying camping gear.
1300 lbs. Good god. I think Paramotors weigh substatially less and their pilots can land in the space of... well... two feet. As in two human feet alighting on the ground.

RIP Pete, the smiling and lightheartedness show by Pete in this video is inspirational.

Your love for planes and people is large. Sorry you lost your buddy Pete.
I like to say some special words to thank designers, engineers, constructors, managers etc etc who make this plane. They are so great in my mind!
Aonde comprar esse projeto seu. Obrigado pela sua atenção.
That is awesome, I think one of the first planes my father learned on was a cub.
That's incredible! Ya just gotta love those Cubs!!! Very cool!!!

My plans for the 1/6th scale R/C version will be in RCM&E next month
Frank has to have the most awesome J3 Cub on planet earth 🌻
Pretty cool. Some thing like that, but with capacity to carry more would be real handy
One word: DRACO... Oh wait...
Guess we gotta wait for Mike Patey to build a new one... 9 months from now. lol
AWESOME HOW MUCH İT?
nice boards of canada tune at the end
I think he landed in 10' and took off in 14' extreme STOL!
I would like to know if you sell ultralight
Wow, that was an amazing take-off and landing. Impressively short. Juan, you are like the character "Waldo", as in "Where's Waldo?" Oshkosh, WI??

Wonderful what was his distance?
increible muy buen trabajo!!
we need a stol ultralight

John Lucas Oh I hope to see the prosses on here of it that will be awesome!
check out Badland Aircraft. It's about as close as it gets. ruclips.net/video/YxrB7R-Cmv8/видео.html
The thumbs down came from a Pree Ass (Prius) owner who just can't get his off the ground.
Haa!
Does anyone know what's the idea with the wing tip?

its 800 for the stol
1300# sounds like a lot for such a barebones build.
It doesn’t weight that much, it’s like 685 pounds and he set the gross to 900 pounds. It also has a supped up C-85 engine not a 180 horse lycoming.
what is the original airframe?
I’m pretty sure he based it off a PA 11.
Просто надзвичайно! Знімаю капелюх перед конструкторами і пілотами цього дива!
it doesn't fly it levitates, why the tundra tires it doesn't need a ground roll so put on some small lite wheels
Big tires allow a higher rotation angle on the ground
Big diameter , underinflated tires prevent nose overs by allowing relatively big obstacles to be absorbed more efficiently, remember it flies in alaska where many landings take place off paved runways
Samm Sheperd-Hey Samm love the videos keep it up 👍👍👍
Not one single ounce on that plane that isn't absolutely necessary.
the air frame weighs about as much as my dog after a bath..
Surprised is 1300 lbs! I really thought is would be under 700 lbs.
Yes, the Empty weight is about 800#s currently...
Isso aí meu amigo curtir muito seus vídeos
WOW! Unbelievable!
Sure that's not a helicopter?
👍👍👍👍👍
Kazakhstan !!!!

He probably has one of those too.
removed everything that isnt essential for flying lol
damn wish they made a rc of his plane
I am about to build my own design R/C version of this plane. About 562 span and electric powered
correction 56" (Inches) span

Definitely not kosher to go around touching someone else's airplane. Look, but don't touch. Sorry to read about your friend Pete.
Don't touch it. Disrespectful.
я такой же хочу!!
