- ✨🌶️ Chili Garlic Silken Tofu 🌶️✨ My favorite way to use soft or silken tofu. Serve it cold or give it a quick steam/poach (my preference). Whip up a quick chili garlic sauce and serve it with steamed rice. 🍚

Thanks! this looks like it'll be a new staple for me
Thank you for linking a complete recipe, not enough cooking RUclipsrs do this 🙏
Just wondering why you became vegan?
I'm trying to hit the link and it won't let me go to it it's telling me to text
Just made the recipe- delicious! Thank you for sharing!
You’re so right about tofu being treated as a meat substitute! I haven’t had silken tofu in years but this makes me want to try it again.
Only in the west really
@@Drevonthomas I didn't even know it was treated like that, its one of my favourite things to have thats actually healthy since I was a kid and the soft texture is my favourite
@@Drevonthomasmore specifically the US I’ve never met any Europeans who use it as a meat substitute they just eat it as tofu and eat meat as meat
I'm not trying to excuse American ignorance but.
As an American myself, i only learned recently that in other cultures tofu isn't seen as a meat substitute. Idk why it's taught as such here but until i saw a reddit post about vegans being mad at a meat tofu dish, i had no idea people mixed the two
I wish there was more education about other cultures and there food in early developments cause if you grow up thinking a food is only served one way, it blows your mind when you find out your culture is the only one that sees it thst way.
@@Tues48It’s funny because I’m an American too, but I grew up in an area with very mixed cultures, so I had the opposite experience! I was surprised when I first learned that tofu was a meat substitute, and after watching this video, I was REALLY surprised at how common it is for people to see it only as that. I thought everyone saw “meat substitute” as a secondary use of it, at most, so it really goes to show how different each individual experience is even within the same country
This is a common Korean banchan. Served with rice and eat it with kimchi and seaweed on the side. So good!!!!
China too
I always love when this comes out as banchan 🤤
@@mochichichi2458 I honestly thought this was going to be a pseudo mapo tofu recipe 😅
no, they fry it. this cold serving is not korean
@@ot7stan207Koreans use tofu hundreds of ways.. frying is only one.
I like treating tofu like tofu instead of like a substitute like it just makes it so much easier to enjoy
Tofu in miso soup or kimchi soup is very comforting. That’s my favorite way to eat tofu.
Kimchi soup sounds wonderful! Do you have a favorite recipe?
OMG this is soooo good. Tofu is so much easier to cook with if you aren't stuck on making it crispy. I added some Korean BBQ sauce and Mexican macha to my sauce. This will be on high rotation as a tofu staple for me. I used firm tofu and it turned out just great!
Awesome! I prefer to use extra firm tofu for the higher protein content, and lately I've been looking for tasty and actually SIMPLE tofu recipes that I can keep on rotation.
Yes! Silk also has a more subtle and nicer flavor. It’s how I got my daughter to love tofu.
I needed this vid cause I had silken tofu in a dish and it was perfect but when I tried to recreate it with firm tofu the flavor was too strong! Now I know my mistake 😅
It causes cancer
Tofu is so versatile and amazing. My grandma will sometimes make some silken tofu and we literally just pour ginger sugar syrup on it and eat it
Oh come on I just used my last silken tofu block! Back to the store I go lol
This is my go-to recipe too! Sometimes if I feel really lazy, I microwave the sauce. I highly recommend to try putting some roasted sesame seeds or sesame oil on top! This is what most of Koreans do.
Tofu really has its own delicate taste when it‘s fresh.
I decided to make this for lunch and It was sooooo good. Thanks for the recipe 😊❤
Ahhhhhhh this looks sooooo good!!
I ate a whole block of tofu the other night and I enjoyed every bite of it!!
More silken recipes plz, my god this looks fire. I'm making it tomorrow.
just tried this recipe 🥰 absolutely delicious
I’ve been wanting to try a new simple tofu dish and this looks delicious! I have firm tofu rather than silken but I feel it would still be good :)
If you have a favorite chili crisp this recipe is THE BEST way to just eat it. Im so glad i have a new way to shovel Lao Gan Ma into my face ❤❤
Simple and easy! Thank you, Sarah for sharing! 🙇🏻🙏💚
The way you cut it is genius
this is such a great lazy day recipe. You really don't even have to cook the sauce if you don't feel like it, and it's awesome cold when it's hot out!
this plus a quick low broil till some browning... yuuum
I'm 100% gonna make this tomorrow. Looks delicious.
Silken with extra firm together has such a lovely ricotta or soft scramble texture. I love silken tofu more than any other firmness. Large chunks of silken tofu added last minute to soups and stews is superb.
I like silken Tofu to make a smoothie. This looks like a nice lunch, I'm going to try this one sometime.
I've been saying it for years-tofu is a miracle food! It's so nutritious and versatile, it deserves its own category outside of meat/meat substitutes, vegetables, etc. 🍲🥘🍱
I needed this recipe, I love tofu
So true about the meat substitute thing. As someone who eats and enjoys meats, substitutes don’t often do it for me, but man I love tofu as just its own thing! Gimme that tasty bean curd!
Since finding this recipe a year or so ago I’ve probably made it at least once a month. So easy. So good. 🥰
I've always struggled to like tofu as a meat substitute but I just made this and it's delicious. Sometimes you just need to let it be a star ✨ (tbf this was my first time trying silken tofu and while it's obviously always interchangable it's now definitely my favourite)
I love to add silken tofu to ramen! Agasashi Tofu preparation is my favorite recipe, but silken is fast and easier!
I love mixing it quickly.
This looks great.
The secret to good vegetarian or vegan cooking is definitely "don't just make meat substitute versions of stuff you like."
Silken tofu is my favourite, I'm obsessed w the texture. It's so good in soups and incredibly versatile in sweet dishes too. Way better than firm tofu
The poached version slaps for the upcoming fall and winter. So yummy 😋 ❤
Made this yesterday and it was INSANELY GOOD!!! Gonna make me a new patch today and probably tomorrow as well. Perfect simple dish packed with flavour, best thing I've ever eaten with silken tofu. Thank you Sarah!
Tofu is my favourite, I grill them and sprinkle them with chat masala to devour after my exercise 🤤
Wow. That's a lot of yum.
Just tried this I was hesitant since I don’t love soft tofu but it was so good and refreshing, ate it the next day cold with warm rice sooo good.
Fantastic tips! Thanks for sharing! 😋
Omg those slices are so perfect and satisfying
This looks so good, definitely want to try it!
Saved! I will try it for sure.
i like that you said soft and custardy...
So I just discovered something called spicy tuna crispy rice. So I’ve been looking for vegan sashimi tuna recipes. Well I don’t like fish and see no need to bastardize watermelon in such a way. In my journey I come across this and dare I say it may be perfect? It has all the flavors I like. I like tofu just as tofu and this is so inexpensive. Thanks so much!!
GTFO it's vegan has some really good vegan fish alternatives!
tell me more about this watermelon fish...
Look up carrots as a fish substitute!
That looks amazing
Beautiful Shun !! 😮
I love silken tofu, love the taste and the texture. First time I tried it, I put it in my ramen soup and fell in love with the texture.
I found a recipe where you serve it with a sweet ginger syrup. Its so good when youre feeling ill but also nice as a dessert
That recipe is so bomb
Oh my god. I do the same thing but with fried minced chicken. Takes it up a notch for sure.
Omg I love tofu and this looks so damn good
Idk but as an Asian, I could eat tofu in any form. It’s that love I have for tofu. Even plain. It’s just delicious. 🤤 💕🤍
That looks so good and comforting
Looks really good! If you want an easier was to heat up the tofu, what my mom does is plot it on a plate and just steam the whole thing
This genuinely looks fantastic. I think I'll buy some silken Tofu and I am going to try this tomorrow.
I'm impressed
Wow that looks delicious 😮
I used silkenntofu as a pasta sauce today and it was incredible
Honestly, looks pretty good. Can't say I really know what tofu tastes like on its own but the sauce looks tasty so it might be worth a try
I love silken tofu a lot for the reasons you mention - and this is such a nice idea for what to do next time I fancy some
I made this and used the leftovers (tofu and sauce) as a base for a super quick and easy miso soup/ramen :)
I loooove silken tofu as a dessert.
This looks great and will become one of my go-to’s!
Delicious! Thank you for this idea. Never thought to poach it!
I am a sweet silken tofu person, i personally can’t do any custardy thing in a savoury dish but that does look good and I can see why people like it
I have been put off by the silken tofu and have never used it. This recipe might be what changes my mind, this looks amazing!!
This looks good
oo i really wanna try this nowww
Good for you for blanching the silken tofu! It firms it up just a tad so it doesn't fall apart into a mush on the plate when eating it the way you do. Chinese chefs will blanch it when making mapo tofu. It also takes out some of the possible grassy overtone in the flavor that some people don't care for. You can use salted or unsalted water and don't cook it, just lightly blanch it.
I absolutely love this. Thanks so much for introducing me to it!
It always baffles me how a lot of westerners just hate tofu, saying it disgusting, not delicious etc etc when tofu is actually super delish if they just get rid of that tofu-is-healthy-food-and-meat-substitute since here in Asia tofu is just tofu??? It's daily food staple, it can be super unhealthy too, and theres tons of recipes that made it delicious. My fave tofu recipe is crispy tofu tossed with chillies, onions, and salt, but there are some kind of tofu that's already delicious as it is.
Yea! “Why would anyone eat tofu that’s some vegan bs” have they forgotten Asian people exist?? It’s like they think American vegans invented tofu 🙄🙄
Truth its not a super healthy food replacement...my granduncle is vegan and eat tofu and tempe(tempe is like tofu made from soybean but fermented and much harder texture) everyday and he got gout because of it... make him turn into vegetarian instead of straight vegan.
@@iloveearthnotreally299 it is not indeed, people with special dietary restriction even need to avoid them, but its just western medias who markets them as something healthy, vegan, exotic meat replacement that makes a lot of ppl resent it.
I am so obsessed with silken tofu. GOSH it is comfort food 🥰
😻 looks so yummy
I've only used silken tofu for tofu scrambles. Freeze it 1st, squeeze out the excess liquid, add to a pan with a little cashew cream mixed with vegan cheese or nooch and its so good. Season with black salt too. I can't wait to try it this way too.
I always have this with Chinese chilli crisp aka the OG Lao Gan Ma, it's so good
Aku penasaran gimana rasa dan penampilannya kalau tahunya dipanggang sm sausnya.
looks good, thanks. will try something like this in the future
Going to try this with extra firm tofu, which is the type I prefer to use due to the higher protein content. I've been looking for tasty and actually SIMPLE tofu recipes to eat on repeat as I'm currently going through a crazy time of transition in my life and apparently have developed an intolerance to beans/legumes, which used to be my main source of protein😢 Sad to not be having beans every day anymore as I really do love them, but I'm so over the painful bloating and trapped gases I've been getting from them lately😣
Silken tofu makes for such an amazing dessert
This looks so good! 😋❤️👏🏻
I just have to say that's a fantastic knife, I have a whole set at work. Chef approved.
Looks so good. 😋
Looks fantastic! I loke extra firm tofu sliced and eaten plain just like a thick slice of cheese.
I’ve never had tofu before but after seeing your recipe I MUST TRY ITTTT
Made this today, it was really tasty!!!!! Will make again
This looks amazing!
This looks so good! I'm on board. Going to try this soon.
this looks like a savory flan and im so here for it
so delicious!!!
That sounds amazing 🥰
I was lucky enough to visit Japan as a teenager and iswtg the tofu alone was worth the trip
this looks so YUM!!
Mapo tofu really is THE BEST summer dish
it's probably my american palate, but i generally only prefer silken tofu in dessert applications. trying to open myself up to new experiences tho!
This looks so good! My mom used to make something similar but the tofu was just cut differently.
Soooo comforting, I put it in soup
I make a vegetarian dish with silken tofu, Parmesan cheese, egg noodles, eggs, spinach, and some seasonings. It's so good, and it's such a comfort food for me.
I thought you're doing a Chinese tofu flower, it's very addicting and mesmerising. Growing up I used to eat this dish very often.
Looks delicious 😋
Personally I LOVE cold silken tofu! It’s a lovely quick breakfast when I don’t feel like cooking at all
