Terrific interview! Rich got to ask things that Kirk was willing to talk about. When that kind of ebb and flow happens, it's a journalist's dream. I hope fans who had never heard Kirk speak at length before really enjoyed it as much as I did.

Also just a great guy. I can’t believe the Falcons drafted his backup instead of going all in. He comes across as humble and understanding, but this roster was BEGGING for upgrades.
You won't have the same attitude if Cousins gets injured. An Achilles injury is serious business for a 36 year old quarterback. Penix is insurance.
@@kmaterne if the Falcons worried about Kirk’s Achilles, which is a perfectly fair worry, then they shouldn’t have signed him for massive guaranteed cash.

As a Vikings fan here I miss Kirk already
As a lifetime Vikings fan, we will miss the consistency and stability at that position that Kirk brought. He wasn't spectacular and couldn't 'will' the team to a win very often like other top tier quarterbacks, but you just always had a solid performance at the most important position on any football team. And to have him be grounded, smart, and focused on football was another treat!
I'm a Vikes fan and Kurt was great for us. It's a business and both sides moved on.

Kirk is a good interview. I wonder if TV people are paying attention. He could probably transition to broadcasting after he retires as a player. And he has horrible taste in music. Just a greatest hits of all the crappy early 2000's rock that killed the genre.

I’ve said from the moment Penix was drafted that he would be playing this year. Meanwhile, the media and whining fans are still foaming at the mouth about the pick. I love Kirk. But, notice how many times he looks up and to the right while talking about his recovery and the Achilles…up and to the right is indicative of doubt, or outright lying. Get ready for a two QB season.
There will only be a two QB season when the Falcons make the playoffs and Morris rests the starters. And I'll tell you why.
#1 Kirk had never missed a game due to injury in 12 seasons. He knows how to take care of his body and does everything that Brady (and Brees) do. And the only reason that Kirk even tore his Achilles was that he wore the longer spikes for the first time in his career and said that his cleat got stuck in the ground. The Vikings slipped on the turf the year before at Lambeau and the whole team decided that they needed to wear them for the next Packer game.
#2 Kirk is the rare quarterback that improves every season. So there is no valid reason to think that Kirk is gonna get injured or not play well.
@@Paula-mv8im Yeah, I get all that. But, “no valid reason?” Achilles injury. It is the rare professional athlete that comes back seamlessly from an injury like that - which is part of the reason they drafted Penix. Maybe Cousins is the rare one - but at 36 i doubt it. The body is just not the same after 35.
And, did you see the Rich Eisen interview? Compare the whole interview to the few minutes Kirk is asked about his Achilles healing and playing time this year. Obvious discomfort, deception going on. It takes 12 months for most to completely recover from that injury. It’s been about 10. Expect an inconsistent first half of the season from Kirk.
