RPG campaign idea: a scroll detailing the locations of hidden artifacts from your nation's glory days has surfaced and the party is on a mission to collect them. The first one is relatively easy to obtain but complications arise in tracking down the subsequent treasures. The quest giver might also have ulterior motives, and the party might have to deal with the consequences of gathering a collection of artifacts that grant such great power when assembled in just the right way. They might have the opportunity to indulge in this power themselves, and then they will have to contend with holding on to this power and what it does to them. It could go in a lot of ways depending on your group! Lots of opportunities for the players to make meaningful decisions about the way the plot goes.
This also has the making of one of the comedy bits I've always wanted to see played out - translation portrayed realistically in a fantasy/historical medium. "Yeah this character either means a specific kind of cactus or resurrection, it's only attested to in two sources"
If I ever find any Solomonic treasure, Dr. Sledge will be the *first* person I'll call about it

I always loved the story, I forget the actual works of art in particular, but there were stolen masterpieces that some guy in Europe just kept and stared at every day in his little apartment. There is a part of me that wants the same for these treasures, if they were real or existed as described, that some family in the Middle or Near East has had them for untold generations and just keep them around because they are pretty family heirlooms, forgetting their true origins or worth. The Ark being used as a storage ottoman makes me giggle. It is God's home on Earth and also where Nanna stores her knitting needles and yarn.

The Aragorn character and the Stewards of Gondor is clearly a reference to the Merovingians (there is an assumption that the Merovingians of Jewish origin) and thе Mayors who replaced them.
Elves also have clear Jewish attributes and names.
It would be interesting to analyze "The Lord of the Rings" from the point of view of Jewish mysticism and esotericism.

Tolkien was both a Catholic and a Philologist. We know he was familiar with the Eddas, the Mabinogion and European history - Pepin the Short was a King of the Franks and Meriadoc was Breton. It's entirely reasonable to suppose he was equally familiar with Biblical texts. I would love you to elaborate on the Jewishness of his Elvish names with some examples.
Dr. Sledge you are an amazing teacher. History becomes a story that is entertaining and funny. You have this special form of humour that makes listening to you a real treat. This episode was interesting and I will now ask my special trained dog to start searching for treasure in our garden.She is especially good in digging pits between my flowers - she never found a treasure though 😄 Still you never know. Maybe someone has buried some golden artefacts that were recovered from the temple in my backyard. It’s as good a place as any to start looking.

I love the whole Solomon saga. I have two books on practicing the magic in the Goetia, but I've never attempted use, probably out of fear. I'm usually interested in the demons and their different attributes, but I'm here for ALL of it.

That'd be quite good in a D&D adventure - a trap, or secret door, which you can discover, and perhaps take advantage of, but which kills you instantly if you try and tell anyone about it. There'd need to be a way to get around it, of course (just keep your mouth shut, and tread on the flagstone?)

I agree that most, if not all, these treasures are lost. That didn't stop me from believing the History Channel insanity 15 years ago or so. Oh well. I love videos like this, and the video explaining the activities on Yom Kippur at the Temple. The story of the Ark being found, and restored in a Messianic Third Temple once again reminds me of that strange alliance between the more extreme Zionists, and Fundamentalist Christians who subscribe to dispensational eschatology.
Finding the Ark is like finding concrete proof of extraterrestrials… I want to believe. But… I don’t think it’ll be found, providing it still exists. I think the explanation that it was destroyed is probably correct, likely by the Babylonians when they sacked the city. The thing that keeps hope alive is that it wasn’t listed by the Babylonians as one of the objects taken. Given the Babylonians’ (like the Assyrians) penchant for taking religious objects as trophies after victories, that’s surprising (unless there’s truth, or wide spread belief, of what happened to the Philistines who once took the Ark before returning it after suffering medical ailments after taking it). I but then, you would think it would have been kept, secretly, by the Hebrews, and restored in the Second Temple, which there’s no record or tradition of happening. So that leaves two major theories (not including divine intervention, and I just don’t buy the Ethiopian story): 1) it was hidden before the Temple’s destruction, and remains hidden, or 2) it was taken by Shishak to Egypt. I’d love to believe the Shishak story, probably because it’s the one from “Raiders of the Lost Ark”… but either way, I’d love for it to found, or at least it’s fate truly uncovered… but mostly to be found.

My view the treasure was taken and melted down most likely. I am Jewish and used to think maybe they were hidden but nah they are long gone. The supposed Ark in east Africa Ethiopia now is likely a replica. Great informative video I must say I love the myths of the Knights templar. Mind you many buried treasures likely exist. So maybe Israelite gold is out there. The menorah from the second temple was taken to Rome where it later disappeared.
Nice, as a rastafari I really appreciate that you have mentioned the kebra negast (the glory of kings) because from this story of the queen of sheba with king solomon it is said that a son is born to them called Menelik and is this man who on a visit to jerusalem takes the ark of the pact to Ethiopia and it is from there that the Solomonic distance was founded in Ethiopia or the royal house of David in Ethiopia, of which, Haile selassie Ist (another title in his coronation was The lion of the tribe of Juda) is The last king since he was overthrown by Ethiopian Marxist revolutionaries at 1974, Haile Selassie Ist is the one whom Rastafarians see as Jah, or the second coming of Christ, others see him as one of the kings of Israel.

As always, I do wonder what Jews, especially Israelis think about these things. I know there's a whole long list of VERY good reasons that there's not and probably never will be any plans to build a new temple but with so many holy and sacred treasures lost to the tides of time and war, legends like these have plenty of room to take root.
Secular Israelis don't care about it other than perhaps if they have personal interest in history. Ultra Orthodox want a third temple but mostly think God will take care of everything if they're righteous enough. Religious Zionists want to actively do these things and would try to build a third temple if they had enough power.
I totally agree with you. I think it would be awesome if there were evidence of any of it. beyond the mundane reality. I don't care about treasure lol. I'm only interested in the history.
It's a shame but totally plausible that so many so-called scholars of 'the Treasures' neglect or are unaware of this text, which to me is pretty damning evidence for the Ark's destruction and thus its absence from otherwise extensive Babylonian records, as frequently cited in conspiracy theories. Can you do one on the theory of the temple itself. Know some people say what is thought of as the temple is really the remnants of the Roman fort. That they removed a block for repairs and found a Roman coin under. Other people say this idea is bonkers. Would be interesting to hear all the theories laid out kinda like you did on this one.

The British Israelite Society's actions in Ireland, and then a subsequent pamphlet (written in the '70s or '80s, if I am not mistaken...I saw it in the University College Cork library one day early in my studies, and checked it out and read it, shrugged, and mentally logged it), are things worthy of their own episode indeed! The pamphlet (running to 30ish pages, if I am not mistaken) says, basically, that the idea that the Ark of the Covenant was in Tara is absolutely daft; however, the possibility that it was moved somewhere on the Iveragh Peninsula is much more likely...just look at all the evidence in Co. Kerry for there having been Jewish influence on Irish culture! It's misreading things, to be certain; however, it's also an interesting kooky set of ideas, and what is the wider topic of "esoterica" if not exactly that? ;)

You missed one treasure,the only archeological find from dig's in or around Solomon's temple,and that was one very beutifull ivory carving of a pomegranate,which other's later relate to a devine number of 102 or 104,which is the average number of seed's in pome's from the middle east.the best version of the arc I have ever heard,thanks,you have been called 102 104

Robert Graves let his imagination run riot, but came out with the occasional insight which feels as if it could be true. When Jesus (who famously disapproved of some of the goings-on at the Second Temple) said that He could rebuild the temple in three days, He meant it literally - because He was a carpenter, and could have reproduced the original Ark in that time.
as many times as the city its self was sacked , we will possibly never know . the biggest possibility is that these were melted down . as for the ark, I believe if it existed at all, now abides in the city of Ethiopia. but then again could just be lagan or myth . after all for a great King , no evidence has been found of his existence , surly he would have had a grand buried /tomb .
