Some impressive sailboats. I always wanted to design and build some foils for my Hobie 16 but never got around to it. Would have been fun. Too old to sail it now. The single hydrofoil PROAs are VERY fast. I saw a scale RC version that runs on a single central hydrofoil with basically what looks like a plane sitting atop the sail for pitch, yaw, and roll control. It was a scale model, but it was nuts. IIRC he was running over 40. Hard to picture without a drawing, but if you saw it you'd immediately understand. Going to a rigid sail with a good airfoil design will give a lot more power than a sheet and rib type sail, as well, but a PITA to transport and set up. Great vid!
Almost unbelievable speeds being attained by sailboats. Congratulations to all designers and those who sail in those boats, as they may be fast but very uncomfortable,
your americas cup stuff is pretty messed up..... you say the top speed is on an ac45 (and its not) as you show video of an ac50. then switch to an ac72?
Remarkable! All amazing, but if I'm not wrong I think l'Hydroptere was the beginner of this revolution, and still looks like maybe the stablest as well as the second fastest.
Yep. I may be wrong, but my understanding is this makes it difficult for software to identify these clips as infringing copyright content and flag this video.
Why would you leave out the Hobie TriFoiler than can run at over 50 knots and has averaged over 44 knots on a measured mile, setting and still holding the Class A World Sailing Speed Record? (The Vestus Sailrocket is non-navigable - it can't turn. It runs on perpetual port tack.)
@@decasss yes, the point was that thanks to them in just 3 years the lower half of the list has only the historical value. And obviously back then I think even specs for AC75 class were not yet set in stone.
The shot of Vestas Sailrocket is backwards. Normally it wouldn't really matter, but since that boat can only sail on starboard tack it's a shame to show it the wrong way around.
Im pretty sure the top speed for the sailrocket was 68 knots, and there are a few boats that at the time of posting this comment, are much faster than most of the sailboats shown here.
All cool boats... BUT... as the guy sitting in and having been on quite a few of those actual boats... many of those numbers are total rubbish. Nice collection! My favorite is L’Hydroptère because she is build as cruiser (with motor, pantry, position lights etc). Not bad for a record-holder...
Gak, the background music was nauseating
Why is all writing on the boat mirror image?
It appears that this entire clip was filmed thu a "rearview mirror"!!! Kind of funny but why?
What about the moth or f50?

Time to update the list to account for AC76's going over 50kts

You'll get there! :-) Cheers.
odd that you got the thank you correct with all the boat images reversed.
What’s with a lot of the logo’s being backwards?
Nice sum up, but why did you have most of the footage mirrored?
So if you want a fast cruiser it will be a trimaran with foils?
How many mph is a knots
Why are all the images mirror reversed?
