    My Shakespeare re-read continues to go well: 4 left (Shrew, Lear, Winter's Tale, and Hamlet) [see: saved the best for last!]; My Audible credit this month went to the new Lincoln biography (This must be my 7th - or something like that, tho I still can't get inside his giant head), and from their free selections I downloaded Search for Meaning. It is technically non-fiction November, so I may put the last two in front of Shakespeare. When I finish either I'll add to it, or first I'll finish Proust's Search for Lost Time. Hope your reading goes well. Thx!

    Hey Emma :) I'm someone with persistent adult acne and the one thing that has TRANSFORMED my skin is retinol. It's a skincare ingredient that has probably the most research behind it, it's incredible.. So what it does is stimulate the production of collegian in your skin, this increases cell turnover and so improves the health and appearance of skin. It's great for acne, oil, blocked pores, dry skin, flakes, aging etc. It's the one thing I recommend to everyone. I use the ordinary so it's very cheap as well.
    Just make sure you do some research ahead of time.
    There's certain medications you can't use it with, you have to use sunscreen, and it will cause a break out. Not because your skin is reacting badly, but because the cell turnover is bringing up all the blemishes to the surface at once. this can be hard, but once I got through it it was amazing. There are techniques to help minimize the purge. For example, you can put a very small amount on after your moisturizer, , and then build up tolerance over time

    I read almost all of the books from Anne Rice's Vampire Chronicles and since then have gone back to re-read the first books multiple times, then skipping Queen of the Damned. I have read this one though, because it is important to read to know what happened. But no matter what anyone says I say read the series. I have always loved The Tale of The Body Thief which comes after Queen of the Damned. I'm re-reading it again now. If you like fiction that explores existential questions or gets a bit philosophical exploring the characters and their experiences you will enjoy this series. However there are books in the series that don't all center on Lestat so much. These ones are still great reads as well. Memnoch The Devil which comes after The Tale of The Body Thief really shows Anne Rice's religious background in her exploration and questions pertaining to God, the Devil. This book as well as the one before The Tale of The Body Thief explores vulnerability and how even strong and powerful characters can still be made to be vulnerable. That even if they aren't human anymore, they still share the experience of fear, loneliness, bitter isolation, changes in life, and vulnerability with humans. Aside from this the exploration of strength and what makes one tick is littered throughout this series as well. The other books are not like the first book Interview With The Vampire which is why some people may not like the rest of the series. But for me I loved the exploration of different vampire characters such as Armand and the different settings in the other books as well. Getting into Merrick we meet one of the Mayfair Witches which have their own series as well. In this book we also have the vampires we know already from the previous books as being part of the story. We even get to Claudia again! But you'll have to read the series to find out! But really the YA feel that we always get with books and series about witches just wasn't there in any of Anne Rice's books about witches. They have their own feel and are definitely unique and stand on their own. Anne Rice was also a very talented and exploratory author who explored many old things as well as how the minds, behavior and identities of humans has changed over the centuries with the changes in philosophies, religion, technologies, inventions , the structure of culture. Her work with this series is very intelligent. It may include vampires but it goes deep even if Lestat does seem superficial at times with his vanity and preoccupation with himself. So, read The Vampire Chronicles series! Once again I shall bug you about reading The Mirror by Marlys Millhiser! For classics I am currently reading Jane of Lantern Hill by L.M Montgomery and I am wanting to get started on re-reading The Game of Thrones, partially because you have been talking about it but I also have Game of Thrones Mug and I feel it is a great series to start in November! I also went to get into re-starting the Outlander series. Kinda nutty because they are all big books and this says nothing of the other books I am reading! Why do I do this to myself!? Must be a book-nerd thing amiright?? lol

    My cat, Boris, is 15 months and was fixed right after I got him after kittenhood. It's almost daily now something gets dumped, knocked, sliced or shredded around here. Currently, his favorite thing to do, when bored, is to jump up and whack the door handles then run for the extra bedroom to hide. Slightly annoying but the real problem is that opens doors when he pulls the handle down and gives him access to rooms with more destructive things to do. Or allows him outside. I got him for a companion but it's like raising children...again.

  • @laurenbarbay1175
    @laurenbarbay1175 2 года назад +3

    I wouldn’t worry yourself too much about running and jumping just monitor him a little bit and check the stitches often and I am sure he will be okay :) I have had many cats in my life so far and all of them have been fine after getting fixed. Usually they are quite exhausted after the procedure, so its less likely that he will even want to run around a lot. I hope it goes well :) 🤍 he is so cute 🥰

    Hi, Emma. All bests. If you read a good biography of Dickens, you'll understand his novels better and why they vary so widely depending on how his real life impinged on the work.
    Other than, say, John Forster's biography, or Kaplan's, another excellent book to read is The Artful Dickens by John Mullan, which analyzes his writing in a readable, jovial way. Accessible yet scholarly.
    Dickens is my totemic writer. We share a birfday. Of course, we don't write like each other at all, but oh he's an influence, no question.
    Thank you for another lovely vlog. Namaste.
