    I had a marathon canning session a couple of weeks ago. I canned beans, two kinds of bean soups and sweet potatoes.
    Kroger has chicken legs and thighs on sale this week. I want to can a bunch of it as soup, broth and plain chicken meat.
    Anything i have leftover, i will can. I made white chicken chili tonight. I have enough left to can, at least 6-7 pints, if not more. I'm trying to put up as much as possible.
    If you have self rising flour and some kind of fat, you can always make bread or biscuits.
    Whole pork loin is cheaper than pork that's already cut up. Also, whole chicken is going to be cheaper than cut up.
    Little things add up. It breaks my heart to think of how many people are struggling. It didn't have to be like this, nor should be.
    Thank you for all you do to encourage everyone to press on and be prepared. It is more important now than ever.
    Take care, Carrie.

    I am taking a page out of my mother's playbook (the woman who raised 9 children) in that I am cooking and having beans on the table everyday. I am now eating a cup of beans each day. Nope, you will not notice an increase in gas after the first day, but you will find that you eat less and feel fuller longer.

    Thank you so much Carrie, it’s just me here till hubby comes home 60-90 days out, I am so tired of my same ole cooking, hubby relying on me to put dinners in freezer for him to take when he goes back on the road. My job is on hold with road construction so I am sooo frugal and I am so glad I stocked my pantry , grow my veggies and can and dehydrate. We eat a lot of chicken , I raise my own meat chickens. Yes bake my own sandwich bread. If I had 2 Nannie’s I would have butter, cheese…really wanting 2 dwarf Nubians but put that in the lords hands. I buy extra every week till my job stops during winter so we are set on food. May the Lord Bless you both with health and abundance.

    Thank you for your wise advice. I was raised by a mom who could make a good hearty meal out of absolutely absolutely nothing. I never realized just how poor we really were until I was grown. I’m 76 now and never forgot her life lessons. When spoke at her funeral, I thanked her and told her that I never felt poor growing up because she took such good care of us and kept us fed and our clothes clean. We can learn a lot looking back to some of the old ways…I’m thankful for modern conveniences but there is still a lot of old ways that can get you through the hard times.

    We buy ground turkey and chicken thighs. I can't remember the last time I bought beef. It's great in all sauces for chili, spaghetti, soups and meatloaf etc. if you want it closer to a beefy flavor for the ground turkey, I add liquid smoke and or smoky paprika and spices. My husband is an avid Deer hunter and was blessed to put 4 deer in our freezer this year. That will tide us over until next season. If any deer is still in the freezer next season I'll either can or dehydrate it to put on our pantry shelf for longer storage.

Of course I tried some and bad reactions. I noticed I am not eating as many vegetables as I should. I bought some canned greens and feel so much better. I believe we all can make improvements.

Can use as burgers or crumble into spaghetti sauce or use in any recipe calling for ground meat. You can also make it into meatballs or a meatloaf prior to cooking it. A fraction of the cost of ground meat.

      There's dozens of recipes for it on the internet. I started making it via recipes I found but now I just add what I have on hand. Basic recipe is smashed black beans, egg, bread crumbs and spices. The main thing is to dry the cooked beans in the oven on a low temp to release some of the liquid otherwise it's too mushy. If your using dry beans cook first then dry them out a little in the oven. If using can black beans, just drain, rinse and then dry out a little in the oven. For spices I use onion powder, garlic powder, cumin and I add some turmeric just for the health benefits. Things I have added over the years to the basic mix are: shredded carrots, sliced olives, onions, peppers, roasted corn, spinach, peas, liquid smoke (makes it really taste like meat) golden raisins, crushed pineapple (you can't taste the fruit cause the flavors melt together but I add it to get some additional health benefits). I use Ritz crackers for the breadcrumb part but you could even use stuffing or crouton mix if you run them through the food processor. Hope this helps 💕💕💕💕💕

    • @KimmyD347
      @KimmyD347 9 месяцев назад

      Sorry I should add that you can also add ground meat (sausage, turkey, chicken or hamburg) to make it. I like the taste of it without meat but if you have picky eaters it's a way to stretch your meat alot further. 💜💜💜💜💜
