  • Video documentary of our 100+ mile canoe trip on the Everglades Waterway from Flamingo to Everglades City. We used our new Clipper canoe and the little 2hp Honda outboard, which allowed us to complete the journey from chickee to chickee in just five days! Our journey took us through mangrove infested thickets & islands, across open bays, into the Gulf of Mexico, and back into civilization....a great journey through one of our country's most remote wilderness.

my money rewards innovation & quality, the Honda 2HP is the smallest, lightest, most reliable low-horsepower 4-cycle outboard in the world...
our 16-1/2 ft Canadian made Clipper canoe is the only thing in it's class that only weighs 42 pounds! and that's with both the tandem & solo seats in!

The engine is in fact mounted to the side, on a strong bracket that clamps across the canoe gunnels. It works fine, no issues, does great job...

We ran the motor just above "Start"..I'd say about 1/3 throttle, yielding about 5mph and roughly 40mpg. Remember the tank only holds a liter, so you'll need a can & funnel. It's a great motor!

Navigation was pretty straightforward, only got confused a couple of times. You need a good map and a good compass. Practice holding and tracking a heading while paddling..there will be a few open long bays you have to cross. There are numbered signs but not too often, I also kept small quality binoculars around my neck to spot signs & features easily.

most of the way about 4-5mph...to enjoy the journey, also the little Honda motor is much quieter at low speeds

How hard was navigating the waterway as I plan to paddle it this winter? Great video?

Was just wondering how your mac 18 worked for you? Was thinking bout the ultralight for the same thing. Kinda hoping to sneak up on some big bull elk this year on the river bank. 1500lbs is enough to have a quartered moose and elk, and pack the woman and I down river. Would you recommend Howies or are there other dealers in town?

The engine seems to be side mounted, am I right? I have a fiber glass kayak and I am thinking about also mounting a side engine. Tell me: how does the canoe behaves? Any steering or weight balance issue?

Since we use our Clipper for portages in the BWCA, we went with the Tripper S over the MacSport to save weight. the Mac is undoubtedly stronger and has more capacity...good choice!
