When it comes to the MJ debate, he was great globally. Not just in America, not just during his time, not just in a single culture etc. I think it’s harder to find someone who hasn’t heard a MJ song vs someone who has heard a song from any other artist. If that makes sense.
He was literally the most famous person in the world, at the very least in the top 3. There will NEVER be a fair comparison with him and anyone else in terms of impact and significance.
I live in little old New Zealand and saw MJ live as my first concert at the age of 10 and I’m 34 now and it’s still the best concert I’ve ever been to!

Saying Beyonce isn’t a R&B singer is like saying Drake isn’t a rapper. Beyoncé was introduced to us as a part of a female r&b group and every album she has put out has been majority r&b. Like Drake she experiments with other sounds and isn’t solely making one specific genre, but it would be wrong to not acknowledge Drake as a rapper just because he made mainstream songs that aren’t rap.

I am a Beyonce fan, but MJ is MJ. I think Michael's music was loved by a wider audience and that is the major difference. I think Beyonce is Michael's best student. She is a legend and an icon. When she performs people want to watch even if they don't know or like the song, that's how magnetic she is.
That being said, this album is amazing. I can't stop listening to it, it makes me move... all kinds of dancing, free flow, boots popping, dance hall, ballroom, etc...I think both icons should be celebrated.

This was a missed opportunity to celebrate and do a short deep dive into Beyoncé’s legendary career and artistry. How She started as the lead singer , the vocal producer and main songwriter for Destiny’s child. Now she is consider the greatest living artist that owns her own label and production company. But instead gave a very lackluster long winded conversation of how she’s now an album artist, cringe comparisons , made it what others are doing in their careers and what’s she’s not .

For the record, Janet wouldn't have sold/streamed as much today as she did, pre-internet, in her era. She sold 14 million physical copies and followed up with 7, if I'm not mistaken.
In order to debate the levels and impact of these different artist you had to have been of age. You have to be in love with pop culture and music during the raise and summit of both Mike and Beyonce. I was there with the whole family young and old for the BAD video premiere and I was there for Lemonade and know the whole history from Destinys child being in the Izzo Video. to the elevator video with Solange. Beyonce is not where Mike was and its not even possible in her time to get on that level because of how the World is. Rory and Maris are clearly to young to judge this. Janet is definitely on Beyonces level if not higher and Beyonce is not where Madonna was, much less Michael. Thriller is the top selling Album of every Album EVER made. 70 million. Beyonce doesn't even have one in the top 20 and she went solo in the TRL era. They are not the same.
