- We've been getting a lot of questions about whether or not two twin beds are better than one queen in an Airstream.
In this video, we're answering the tough questions about not sharing a bed with your spouse. Plus, other things you should consider regarding sleeping arrangements in your travel trailer.

We had a 25’ twin Airstream when we were in our 20’s and We loved it. I would come over to my wife’s side and visit for a while. After a productive visit i would return to my side 😂
Slap dat aisss

Hahaha
Isn't that going to wear one out faster?

It looks like for intimate moments, you can make a larger 'playground' area in the front. The space to move about, dress, etc, w/the twin layout is a winner, hands down
Thanks for sharing your thoughts! Three years ago, we based the purchase of our travel trailer SOLELY on the question, “Does it have twin beds?” I’m 66 with two artificial knees and my wife is 63 with two artificial hips. No way we could climb over one another if one needed to use the bathroom at 3:00 in the morning! I love being able to toss and turn without worrying whether it will awaken my spouse.
No rolling in the hay then, lol.
We love our 2019 Flying Cloud 25' RBT AS!!! Tip....The bathroom door can be flipped so it opens to the rear of the trailer instead of towards the front living area. Who wants to look at the commode from the dining table?! Took me maybe 30 minutes to flip the door. Just makes sense to open towards the rear. The extra wood along the edge of the mattresses is a great addition. I did the same mod to ours.
We're 70 yo hikers! Love our twin beds after a day on the trail!
Great video. We have a 44 year old Airstream that originally had a crosswise walkaround rear double bed. We reconfigured it into 2 twin beds and love it. I bought mattresses to suit each of us. I like medium to medium firm and she likes firm. My mattress is super comfortable for me and her mattress is too stiff and makes my hips hurt. We have always kept different hours. She gets up early and goes to bed early and likes to sit in bed and watch TV or read while I'm a night person and am either outside or sitting in the dinette in the front working on a computer or watching TV. Neither wakes the other up to go to the bathroom and we can keep different hours and not disturb each other. Twins work great for us.
Thank you for watching!
Great information. Everything made sense. I was thinking the same things. It's great to have confirmation. The extra storage and isle is a real plus. Thank you very much!
Thank you for this video! We were thinking that the twin beds are the way to go and you have sealed the deal for us! Very informative- I appreciate you both.
I'm 6'4" & finding a caravan (camper) with a long enough bed was so hard. Before I retired I worked next to a Jayco main dealer. I went through every caravan on site & not 1 bed fitted me. The Airstream layout with mid washroom & rear single beds is spot on. We get very few Airstreams in Australia & they are very expensive. I enjoy watching the North American videos you do things very differently which is interesting. We eventually bought a European Adria Action which is a small light caravan & the lounge converts easily into single beds 6'5" long. We fitted some memory foam to the seats. At night we use a swag & put the back cushions into the tow vehicle or annex & we leave the table in place. Our dog sleeps under the table. The beds are 2'4" wide a little narrow but OK & takes 2 minutes to change from day to night use.The caravan only has a 13' body but has A/C, cassette toilet, shower, fridge, separate washbasins for people & dishes gas hob external bbq gas point, everything we need. It's small light & tows with a small SUV. very practical for 2 people & a small dog. If we lived in the USA or Canada, which we've visited many times I'd buy an Airstream with pretty much your layout.Thank you for your videos.
My husband and I have 27' Flying Cloud W twin beds and love it. Great cause I am an early bird and he is a night owl. So much room. I like the tip of putting the laundry in one of the spacious cabinets under a bed. Great job.
My husband and I love the twin bed layout with the extra hallway room, large side table with drawer, and the panoramic windows!
You very tastefully answered one of my questions at the end……. ty was very informative 👍
We have a 27’ Flying Cloud with twins and love it!!! Excellent choice, and would absolutely do it again!!!
Well done discussion of a key topic. Thanks!
Awesome advice & video ! 👍 safe travels to you all & your family wherever they may take you .
I enjoyed the video, wish your family the best!
We have twin beds in our Airstream - 2018 30' Flying Cloud and are so glad that we chose them as opposed to the queen. My husband is 6'2 and his feet would hang over the queen, whereas, the twin beds are longer for taller people. We also love the extra storage - bedside table, two bins under each bed for personal storage as well as 2 cabinets. We also understand that resale is better with twins, although we never plan to sell our Airstream! :)
Our next camper may very well have twin beds. It took me a few years to think about the transition from sleeping together to sleeping in twins, but when traveling in such as small space, twin beds over a lot of function. We currently camp in a small Casita 17 Freedom Deluxe that has a full bed across the back that requires the “crawl over” for bathroom trips at night. Currently, not a problem, but we are almost 60, so the crawl over may be old after awhile. Great video! Thank you.
Love the twin bed layout!
Super helpful. Thank you.
Twin beds work well even for close couples because it reduces getting kneed or elbowed while sleeping. It does not prevent you from having nocturnal activities and you get better sleep.
I see that based upon followers, you may be new to RUclips, and if so, this was a brilliant idea in which to capture attention as I’ve often wondered about the conundrum between a queen bed v. Twins for a couple, and until this, I have never seen a solid discussion-which this turned out to be, particularly at the end, which of course was and remains the main point for me and I imagine many others. Excellent video and good luck with more like this…
Hi Guy, I appreciate the thoughtful comment. Happy Camping! 🥂
We had a new truck camper built this summer. I specified twin beds in the cabover. One - no more stolen covers! Two - my spouse and I have different sleep habits so it works out well not waking the other person up if you have to get up during the night or early morning. Three - Its easier to do a girls or guys campout and not have to share a big queen bed! It works for us. Glad it works for you also!
I love the way you answered the question of intimacy without the details…….brilliant. We were going with the queen but your video changed our mind.
We had twins in an A-frame popup. It was so easy to get up in the night to use the toilet! Also made more seating space when we had other people in the trailer. Also easier to make up the beds - we end up lifting the mattress to tuck in the sheets & quilt, being smaller and lightweight, made it easier.
Love your videos!! What brand of comforters do you have? They look lovely and so soft. Thank you for the videos ❤️
I think the twin bed option is awesome. Y'all are thin and fit enough to make it work when ya wanna cuddle. 😊👍
Great to hear this perspective as I do the twin vs queen dance
Awesome Andy! Glad to offer some perspective!
Our 1st Airstream was a used twin bed model. Our 2nd Airstream was a used twin. Our current Airstream is a new 28 twin. We use the extra floor space for a small dog crate and have a 2nd crate on the nightstand. The extra exterior storage is nice too. Works for us!
Love it K D!
Nothing wrong in wanting more space And a good night sleep! Nowadays, Many young couples sleep in separate bedrooms because of sleep issues so it’s No Big Deal! Love your airstream!
We love our twin beds!! We also have added the extra wood under the mattresses
My late husband and I lived in a hotel for some time when our daughter was a year old. We really loved it. We always cuddled as a family and even though we had "our own bed" we would switch it up depending on the night. And sex was not an issue. Typically, we would wait for our daughter to go to sleep and one of us would hop to the other bed to cuddle or just chill. We eve had our own rooms in our apartment in Vegas even though we typically still slept in the same bed anyway. Maybe it's not for all couples. We always had to be touching while in bed together even if it was just foot to foot lol
After reading your comments on the twins I think I may just spend more time living with the twins vs converting to a queen or king. Access and floor space are great points you all made, thanks for your great video and info!!
You highlighted all of the same reasons that we went for the twin configuration over the queen in our 25' Flying Cloud. I did notice that yours is a RB as opposed to a FB. We liked the front bedroom version because most of the campsites we find are back in, and therefore have a view from the living area. We just didn't want to be looking out of those great open windows looking at the tow vehicle. I must say that the only downside to a FB twin is the outside access area being at the front of the trailer. There is very little space between the propane tanks and the storage area, so putting things in and taking them out is a bit of a challenge. Nice review though.
Yes, I really like the idea of the living area in the back.
Seems great ...logical and practical. I love it.
Thanks for watching Marsha!
He guys, hope all is well. We like that model a lot. However, we ended up with the 30 FBQ cause we have two boys, they love the bunkhouse. We also have a walkthrough video on our channel. Keep those adventures going! We’re supporting you guys, from South Florida. ~Eli & Yule
I totally agree w this layout 🙌
We moved from our FC23FB to a FC28RB for increased space and we were unwilling to give up the queen bed. Most of the new units available were twin beds. Not for us. Airstreams are not well insulated. A warm spouse beats an extra drawer any day.
We love our twin Winnebago View. Chose it because it was the best option to accommodate us and our 2 dogs and now can’t imagine ever wanting anything else.
We are both tall: 6’6” and 5’8”. The center aisle allows a lot of head space not possible in either the side or center queen configuration. Plus, the twin beds are 4 inches longer than the queen, so I have enough space at the foot to place a temporary items for . 2019 Flying Cloud 28RTB Blue💙Dream
For seniors is gotta be twin beds, like 30 x 75 are ideal bc they are comfortable and not too narrow and I can make the bed change the sheets so easy. More floor space and easier to organize storage under twins than queen. Love having a decent size night stand with a drawer.... just easier!!!
thank you .
I like the access to the overhead cabinets
We like the twin bed setup, didn't know you could have it in the rear which we prefer. Enjoy having dinette on campsite or in your case up front. We are flirting with the idea of a 25 Globetrotter Twin bed which that size is comparable to our Grand Design XLS 22mle. We would be into it for about $120k where as we own outright our 2022 Grand Design a $70k difference lol.. Beautiful trailer appreciate the the overview.
Team twin bed all the way! We have a 25' FBT and love it.
Great video and thanks for showing the homemade “mattress channel”. We bought a 2017 Flying Cloud 28 in April and we have the twin set up too. We love it except for the mattresses sliding out a little. I’ve been thinking about doing something like what you have and seeing yours has been a big help to get me pointed in the right direction. My fear was that a lip on the edge might cause a problem getting in/out so I’m curious how high the side rises up. Thanks and just started following you guys…we’re 60’ish and total newbies.
Hi Bob, Thanks for watching. The lip is about about an inch.
Helpful
We have twin beds in our 27FTB Airstream. Love them. More storage!
I would love this! My sister and I travel together and find it extremely hard to find something like this. Most tv's and travel trailers are for couples.
We live and travel in our 2018 27 FBQ full time and chose the queen bed over the twin version for the following reasons. 1. Sleeping next to the aluminum side in the winter is uncomfortable. 2. Using the internal and external storage in a front bed twin increases the tongue weight which is a hit on the tow vehicle payload capacity and forces you into a 3/4 ton vehicle to stay safe and within limits. Extra stuff travels better in a tote inside the Airstream over the axles. 3, Regular sheets and bed making. No suspenders required to keep sheets in place.
Excellent. Thank you for your perspective!
It’s honestly a really practical option for solo travelers, too. All that extra storage space - along with the room to walk/get dressed, etc. And OMG, so much easier to make the bed!
Hey Deb! I’ve been recently looking at the twin bed option. Be great for me and Ethan ;)
I'm glad you did this video. We were wondering the same thing. How did you find the quality of the mattresses that were supplied with the trailer
Twins are awesome! So much easier to get in and out of bed.
Really cool hack on the mattress bedding. I have a Bambi and the odd shape of the mattress was tough to find bedding for. Additionally, I like my mattresses pretty firm due to a lower back issue and it's been super hard to find if Airstream has different mattress options.
Thanks John!
I love my twin bed layout in the Classic. It is a better use of space.
Thanks for sharing, we were questioning the twin bed layout…….We currently have a 2021 Rockwood mini lite 2205s with a queen..Just checking out Airstreams (25RB)…
Thinking about this for my Van conversion plans. It’s very difficult to crawl over each other to get in/out of bed.
great information
Glad it was helpful!
I agree completely. We have a 27' FB Twin Globetrotter. In addition to the additional outside storage, we get additional storage inside that the queen configuration doesn't have. We sleep in a king bed at home and our distance apart in it is about the same as when we're sleeping in the Airstream. Plus, I think the trailer feels more "open" with the twin configuration.
Great point about the king bed😀
Great video
Thanks Eric. I appreciate you watching.
I have bern a widow for almost eight years… i would give anything to have my husband ofv46 yearscsleeping right beside me… I have to be honest, and say thst I thunk it is a mistake tomtrade the intimacy of sharing a bed for more storage… Don;’t come for me… I am 78nyears old, and have bern around the block a time or two…
Are twin beds better? Maybe. First, it gives you much more aisle space. It makes accessing the overhead lockers easy. It also gives you four outside storage compartments instead of two with a queen. But in cold weather the metal sides are cold and so rolling over brings you to the chilly metal.
I have a queen and would seriously consider twins next time.
I’ve often thought twin beds would be a better option sleep disturbance is the biggest issue for me. When you sleep on a king at home going down to a full or queen is just too hard of an adjustment.
The statement at 0:40 is hilarious. A great video nevertheless.
He's not wrong
Only downside is when it’s cold sleeping against the wall is chilly and can have frost.
My wife likes the queen bed in our 27FB Globetrotter because she likes to snuggle and we already had tons of queen bed sheets and quilts.
Yeah, I agree. The twin can work for most.
I don’t understand why more people who travel alone done just use a one twin mattress or day bed mattress on one side then going width wise I’m the back… always trying to find those that do.. very few. Thanks for sharing!!!
"We aren't the Cleavers, we make it work". Heck, even the Cleavers had kids! Thanks for answering what was certainly on many minds. :)
We had the exact same trailer, it was even a 2015. We sold it. We are sorry we did. If you still have it keep it.
Been married 52 years, life is short, QUEEN BED 🛌👍😎🇺🇸
Twins really are the best layout for Airstreams!
How is the sleeping up against a cold wall in the twin bed floorplan?
We recently had the local AS dealer convert our 25" International FB from a Queen setup to twin beds. We love the more open layout and additional storage, but were mystified by the under (or non) utilization of the area under the center 'nightstand' drawer. In a front bedroom setup this is dead space that could be added to interior storage. Any one else experience this?
We picked the twin bed version for the same reason, tons more storage. You need to get some beddys for your beds, you won’t be sorry.
Thanks Tami!
My husband and I have separate bedrooms as I can't sleep with all that snoring,
so I would constantly have to wake him up to turn over. So after 5 years of marriage
we went our separate ways and I went across the hallway and I've never looked back!
I can get a quiet good nights sleep now. I know a lot of couples who have separate
bedrooms. I think that for more storage and more floor space this is the way to go.
Twin beds in a camper? That's a no brainer! Hell, yes!!
Just read the Airstream Karmasutra Handbook Version ;)
agree 100%
Twin beds are the best!
What about sleeping up against the metal in a colder climate?
Could you post the dimensions of the plywood add-on with the rail that keeps the mattress on?
Where did you get the bedding for your twin beds? They have to be custom ordered for the airstream right?
definitely the twin setup....especially when you get to that age where ...."that other stuff" is no longer a thing....lol.
I’d like to see a small trailer with a single twin bedroom on both ends of the trailer. I snore and she keeps waking me up.
We got a twin bed layout in our class b simply so we don’t have to crawl over each to go to the bathroom in the middle of the night 😊 Works great for us.
Some of us need access to the loo without an added obstacle course to navigate to get there. LOL At least until the 'plumbing' gets fixed!
We totally agree. We have the same airstream with twins. My husband and I are both over 6’ so the extra length helped make our decision. I also couldn’t see us enjoying lifting a queen to get to the storage. Love the storage we get with the twin setup. Wouldn’t have it any other way.
There are so few choices of decent floor plans with twin beds, as we grow older our traveling companions may friends or siblings, not just spouses, and as you've said many spouses, prefer visiting rather than cramming into a queen when they are used to a king at home. To gain the extra foot needed in a smaller length length trailer, put two comfortable chairs at the a smaller table. I saw where they added a bunk in the new FB25, that already, imagine luxury twin bunks in a smaller unit. Yes, a dinette becomes another bed, but if the person sleeping in the queen gets up early, where do they sit to drink coffee and read the news? I truly think there is a market for an 18-20ft... built comfortably for two, with twins, separate shower, functional kitchen, bright and cheerful... easy to tow without a massive truck or v8, all season (given climate change everywhere is now all-seasons). I am still amazed at the darkness and stuck-in-time interior styling of most campers.
Yes its good, you can sleep better without sleeping in the same bed you also have more room.
I absolutely love when you said you threw your hat at the end of the bed so that if a bear came in the middle of the night you'd have something to put on. I got to ask if the Hat helps with the bear. And why in the world if there was a bear outside why you would want to go out and meet it
Well, I wouldn’t want a bear to see my bed head😂
This is the exact Airstream that I'd want....the 25 ft. twin. That extra walking space makes the thing look so much bigger. What is the year model of that one?
Can you share the link to the sock garter type thing you used to hold the fitted sheet?
Hi Jen, Yes, it’s in the video description. Thanks for watching!
The biggest reason I went with the twins was that I was not just going to be camping with my spouse. When I go with my brothers or other friends works great. Plus, I am 6-4. The queen is much shorter than the 80inch long twins.
Absolutely, great point Greg. Wish I had mentioned that in the video.
I’m 6’-6” and the twin bed is the only one that will fit me. So yeah, I’d get one if I could afford one.
We love our 25' twin for the same reasons.
Twin beds are the best. Best use of space.
Instead of having the bed east and west.. couldn’t you put it north and south? Then u could get in both sides or would that be to cramped. I trust you find a way to be together….
If in a dream world, I had $ to buy an airstream, I would do twin bed config.
My parents had twin beds…. I grew up with that as the norm… I always though it was weird when married people slept together lol…. (We had a big house too)
We just sold our 25-twin and bought the queen after 6 yrs of ownership. Got tire of the separation.
