  • Here I am using my favorite sander to pre-sand a level 5 drywall finish before the second and final coat of joint compound. The MIRKA DEROS 6” random orbital sander which is an absolute beast and no dust as at all combined with my HILTI dust extractor. Hope this video helps you if you are trying to purchase your first dustless sander and I hope you enjoy it if you just like watching trade videos :)
DISCLAIMER- Video is a mix of high speed playback (high pitch) and normal playback (lower pitch). Please feel free to give me suggestions of content I should make next and also suggestions on how i can make my videos better. THANK OU

I bought both of these based on your videos. Curious how you are connecting these two to each other? Am I missing an adapter or something?

Nice work! What paper and grit do you use during each level? Thanks again

For this type of delicate skim coating I use 3M XTRACT CUBRITRON II 240 grit for both coats since each coat is close to perfect. 240 removes material at a slower rate allowing me to slowly work the surface nice and flat and no swirl marks. If your work is a little rough you can use 180 for base coat always make sure you sand randomly in circles and don't stay in one spot too long specially with your final coat or you will see waves in your surface once it's painted and it is exposed to critical lighting. If there's deep imperfections in base coats I don't sand them down too much, I just sand surface flat and next coat covers imperfections. Another sanding disc I use for my dustless sanders the Mirka abranet sanding discs which are my next favorite.

Although I have not used the mirka dust extractors, a few people I know on social media that had it eventually switched over to either festool or hilti. But here is why I chose this Model according to my needs:
SIZE- This dust extractor is very small and compact. Not sure if you have used the Milwaukee cordless vacuum the little ones they sell at home depot but they are the same size except the hilti dust extractor has nicely built wheels at the bottom for easy pulling around. Since we do lots of repair jobs sometimes in houses where people live it's easy to move around and carry. The bigger festools are way to bulky and well as the mirka.
POWER- Although this dust extractor is very small, it is an absolute beast of a dust extractor and we use it every single day. I initially had the Festool-CT MIDI but for the size jobs we do it was not cutting it anymore since we also use the hilti drywall sander. Festools are 132CFM and Hilti is 150CFM of suction. Really blew my mind how small it is but how crazy the powerful it is.
AUTO CLEAN- The auto clean feature on this dust extractor is also really nice. It is a pulse out clean but what's neat about it is that it only turns on once the sensor detects it is needed it's not timed like the festool. Auto clean turns on every time as soon as the dust extractor starts and then rarely turns on even if sanding big drywall jobs unless the container is almost full but even then it you barely loose any suction.
CONVENIENCE- I find this dust extractor to be very versatile. We use it as a construction shop vac in general and also dust extractor. Plus you can buy a Bluetooth trigger start which eliminates having to go back and forth to turn it on and off when using long hoses or using dusting brush when painting. That doesn't seem like such a huge deal but when you use vacuum all day you realize how much time to lose having to manually turn on and off. Bluetooth trigger is such a must have.
I can do a quick review of it if you are interested 👊🏼
