A lot of people say that Henry and Trapper are funnier than Potter and B.J but I feel that they made the transition from funny to a funny but also serious series. This does take place during a war after all. I love all the characters, including the new ones.
With BJ, Potter and Winchester the show got serious, but there was a seriousness in early episodes, yet was not often displayed. First glimpse i believe was " Sometimes you hear the bullet "
@@justina249 that wasn't Henry that wore dresses to try to get out of the Army that was Corporal later Sergeant Maxwell Q. Klinger who. did that....I hope you will reply to this
If only Flagg walked in. "You don't throw me off one second. I once wrestled a real gorilla ... in Truman's office. Let's just say the President never said no to me after that."
It always really bugged me from a continuity standpoint that in several later episodes when they were complaining about how cold they were during the winter that they didn't break out the gorilla suits, at least when they were trying to stay warm in the swamp when off duty.
I've seen this episode, this scene countless times in daily syndicated reruns for well over 40 years. Always with the laugh track. Catching it on youtube without the laugh track for the very first time, it does indeed remain funny. But being accustomed to watching this episode with the laugh track over the years, it sure does feel somewhat different without a laugh track. I wonder what other old tv shows out there with laugh tracks would sound better without the laugh tracks.
GREAT catch! I keep looking for one of these now "vintage" masks. They must have been in all the costume stores back then :) decider.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/06/trading-places-2.jpg
Part of what made MASH Great in the beginning what is a Hijinx that played a key role in the development of characters when Henry Blake left and Colonel Potter came and Frank Burns character Went in a different direction the show became military first just thinking out loud
Yeah, I know it is all scripted, but I LOVE how the characters FULLY commit to "the bit"! I mean, if you are going to do something "silly" to relieve some (wartime) stress, what is the point of half-@$$ing it?
“Why do people always wait so long before they go to their gorilla!”
This scene never fails to make me laugh.
Same here 😄😄😆😆😅😅😂😂🤣🤣
"Me and the missus."
The "They're not inhuman," leading right to the ape suits is classic comedic timing.
You were saying?
It's good seeing the laugh trackless version!
I love how Frank and Margaret were totally shocked to see the gorilla costumes while Henry just looks so Done.
Why does everybody always wait so long to see their gorilla
Usuaally, its because I don't want to deal with the monkeys at the insurance office.
@@Mike_Dubo you should see some of the chimpanzees I deal with at the dialysis clinic I go to
That is so very true 😂
@@davidbrothers3788I bet you hate every ape you see. From chimp-an-a to chimpanzee.
Monkey business can be very draining...

The Potter, Bj and Winchester episodes were funnier than the episodes with frank , Henry and trapper to me .
This is why I have watched every episode of MASH a hundred times.
With you there, Rob 😄
Only the 1st 3 seasons tho!!
Such a funny scene and a hilarious episode! When they crated Frank that was one of my favourite gags that they ever pulled on him!
"I'm boxed in!"
"We all feel like that at times Frank."
The ending I love even Blake is like just a normal day
For a man wearing dresses trying to get out I think Henry's seen it all. Nothing surprises him
Henry was definitely thinking will you two just leave me alone
@@justina249 that wasn't Henry that wore dresses to try to get out of the Army that was Corporal later Sergeant Maxwell Q. Klinger who. did that....I hope you will reply to this
This is precisely why I bought the complete box set - it never gets old 🤣
these aren't costumes we stopped shaving last month 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣😂😁😄😃
Gosh that cast, and that shining star, Alan Alda! What a show, it was before my time but I absolutely adore it.
The confused way burns calla them has me every time this is clearly a new one for him and it cought him by surprise.
If only Flagg walked in. "You don't throw me off one second. I once wrestled a real gorilla ... in Truman's office. Let's just say the President never said no to me after that."
I am on the floor that is EXACTLY something Flagg would say!
@@CheshireCat-cm1si Complete with the Thousand-Yard Smug!
Trapper: Morning children, hi y'all.
Burns: Oh Lord!
Great writers. Absolute comedy.
We'll do it, me & the missus!😂😅🤣
I freaking Love this one still Laugh at this everytime!
A professional in a gorilla mask is still a professional. lol
It must have been a real challenge for Loretta Switt and Larry Linville to keep strait faces during this scene
I heard of going bananas but this is ridiculous
Laughter is as good an antidote as tears, but sometimes wetter.
trust me; you're in good hands; these two are some of the best in the biz
Later doctors pierce and MacIntyre was spotted at Sworbus with Dr zaus and Cornelius. The shrimp was incredible.
Best show ever
When they put on scrubs, they are the best doctors you can have. When not, they are the best jokers you can’t get rid of.
My favorite show
Talk about monkeying around
My dad loved this episode

Excellent point! How awesome would that have been! I'm surprised nobody involved thought of that!
Funny, funny, funny stuff.
Official clips of National Gorilla Suit Day!
I love it. Monkey business never looked so good!!
This scene sure does feel different without the laugh track.
It’s still funny
Much more enjoyable
It's always been better, Low Bridge - I have the box set & turn off the laugh track for each one I watch...

Good old Comedy gold Comedy these days can't keep up
That's the EXACT same gorilla outfit used in the Eddy Murphy / Dan Aykroyd movie Trading Places. 😂

Isn't it also the same kind of gorilla costume in that one episode of Spongebob?
Still one of the best comedy shows of all time..from acting to writing all top notch
This scene was probably the most hilarious scene in the series in my opinion!
Thank you for using the one without the laugh track
50 years later..this...IS the medical profession!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Well, 70 yrs after the time this was supposed to take place. Yes we've made some progress.
This is great! I enjoy it much more without laugh track. More relaxing.
1:24 One moment I'll have to check with my colleague
1:27 *gorilla sounds*
Brilliant, brilliant Alan ❤️
Henry didn't even flinch lol.
His cigar kinda deflated.
Henry: Pierce and McIntyre wearing Gorilla suits. Hmmm.. Must be Tuesday.
I do wish that they had included the laugh track in these scenes. Those laugh tracks were almost as hilarious 😂😆😂 as the scenes themselves!!🤣😂🤣
You be Suprised what Boredom does to People
Amen to that.
I liked MASH best when Henry and Trapper were on it.
Me too
Same here 😊❤️
Yeah they would have never pulled off with B.J.
@@jeffgalus8454 I can count on my fingers the number of times that BJ genuinely made me laugh. He was such a painfully unfunny boring jerk.
@@Summer_Reigns Agreed he was a lot more serious than Trapper
Can we just talk about how gorgeous Margaret’s hair is in this scene?
Really?
Why? Did she stop shaving too?

I wonder if Alan Alda and Wayne Roger's were really inside those suits or their voices wrte dubbed in for other actors???... just wondering
Reminds me of my college education.

I'm sorry, but I miss the laugh tracks. It's too serious without it.
Why were they in monkey suits?
Why not?
They were bored.
