I liked what I played of 20XX and I always wondered if 30XX would live up to it. I never got it during early access because I was concerned I would perhaps regret it, even if it would be improved with time. I think with this review, all those worries can be laid to rest, and I'll definitely pick it up and give it a good go sometime. Thanks for the video.
Minus points for calling it the ‘Nut Emporium’ and not the ‘Nut Shack’. Even so, super excited for this. Keep bringing the reviews, very much a fan of this fantastic channel.
I actually might check this out just because of Mega Mode; 20XX really got my attention, because it felt so GOOD to play, but I couldn't get into the roguelite stuff.
One thing to note; the levels aren't really "randomly generated," moreso they pull from a lot of different chunks, and while 20xx has a similar system in 30xx it is consistently better, since in 20xx you'd have situations where 2 chunks generated a little too close/far and now you can't easily reach/can't get up
Mega mode will make all the difference for me! I usually drop rogue likes when I start noticing a lack if respect for my time. Hades was the exception. It found a way to keep me motivated by integrating it's story on the run loop but I don't remember another rogue like that I've finished recently for that exact reason. I'm coming here after finding out about the switch delay hehe
I liked 20xx and bought this but after playing a while i think the augments are so blend that it hurts to play again. Not a bad game but i don't feel like it works as a roguelike
tbh, random generated levels and roguelike are to me, the worst things indie devs can do, but mega mode sounds that partially fixes that, I mean there are still randomly generated levels, and I consider that a well crafted level that rewards exploration, memorization and practive is more rewarding, but at least I don't have to start from the beginning, hell, even the original NES Mega Man games I had the codes so I can just skip straigh to a level and a certain route, because starting from the beggining every time is the stuff of madness, so I might try this sequel to 20XX
A few staff have moved on to their next great indie adventure, but we have some new party members now too! If you haven't checked out Gamer Ghoulfriend yet she is live Monday and Wednesday at 8pm EST on the channel and we have a new reviewer coming up too!
One problem with the Mega Mode is that you get disgustingly overpowered as you play on. I tried to unlock the full armors for Ace and Nina and by that time even with 4x boss health these guys die in 10 seconds while the duo zoom around with their +10 speed, air dash, and double jump.
I have two big concerns about this game, after having played 20XX: 1) 20XX had a major issue with the various items you find in a run mostly just being raw stat adjustments, resulting in every run feeling very similar because every run was just a gradual increase of damage, attack speed, move speed, jump height, health, armor, etc. Does 30XX actually have items that truly modify how you play the game, and require you to play differently from run to run? 2) Hawke was my favorite player character in 20XX, and I'm sad that she, at least currently, is not available in 30XX.
1. Yes and no. The obvious out of the way first: Boss Powers give you brand new abilities (which of course, give you more Things You Can Do), Core Augments give you powerful, often active abilities, but the most significant of which are Prototype Augments, which could throw a run completely on its head by massively altering how you use certain abilities. New to 30XX are Power Augs (which are taken *instead* of a boss' Power, and enhance or rework your existing Powers) and Remnants (which are also taken instad of a Boss' Power, which provide powerful passives relating to the boss). Primary Weapons are also different this time around, with some of them wildly altering your playstyle if you choose to keep them equipped. 2. Hawk's whole shtick kinda doesn't fit 30XX, though - as her abilities are kinda covered by both Nina and Ace now. Ace has massive energy regen to make easy use of his Techniques (not to mention he gets a whip, which makes it a lot easier for him to regen energy). Nina has a higher focus on Powers with her new Power Fusion ability, with one Fusion even being a fixed version of one of Hawk's Powers (Seeking Striker).
1.) Every run is different depending on how you want to play, Ace has 9 unique fighting styles each with 2 augments to stregthen them while there are 6 different armor sets (24 pieces to equip that support different play styles.) Nina has too many combos. 2.) Though its only nina and ace each build feels like you are playing as someone else also the lab items completely change the game
Mega mode is really disappointing ngl, they should put a bit more work toward it, even if it's not the main mode, most people will find it more familiar.
Switch version was delayed at the last second, they thought they got the game to Nintendo early enough to clear the August 9th release date but they miscalculated.

Well it's currently on sale, so it's a good time to get it.
@@Shadessmh I got it soon after watching this review. It seemed like a good time to.
I enjoyed 20xx and 30xx knocked it out of the park
Excellent, loved 20XX so good to hear that this one's a worthy successor.
Yeah same! Loved the original and enjoyed the sequel even more!
Hopefully the switch version holds up!
I can confirm the switch version is great. My only issue is the font is a bit tiny with no option to increase the size.
@@ryansaunders4491 ooh, that is very good to know. That's my biggest pet peeve with games. I'm near sighted and hate magnifying to read every thing

Good call! haha thank you for the support!
There's something called a "Nut Stack" if you're into it.
I actually might check this out just because of Mega Mode; 20XX really got my attention, because it felt so GOOD to play, but I couldn't get into the roguelite stuff.
That's what I'm saying! Mega Mode was a smart decision.

Great review as always!

Damn, way to dish out the damage!
Can't you disable your powers later on? I know you can at least disable Cores and Memoria upgrades

Good news, megamode is getting some changes
On the eshop there is no sight of the switch version...
Someone go yell at Nintendo to upload the dang game!

The graphics look ugly to me.
